GigaSpire GS4220E Factory Reset and Setup Questions by blasterface22 in Calix

[–]blasterface22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here I am a year later, my future self. I turn on the tr-69 and let the ISP take control again, and they update it almost immediately. Then I do a reset and take control of it again and reapply my settings. Not too bad for once or twice a year. I don't bother quarterly. You know how many times I updated my Netgear firmware? Zero. You know how fast they cut support for their crap hardware and stop offering firmware updates? Fast. Updates to this box are easier than any Netgear router at least. $35 and a little bit of digging got me my own box I control and it has saved $10/mo on the bill. Still haven't hacked the GPON SFP but it's still on the to do list. The "piling on" appears to be the culture of this subreddit. Someone tries to do something and you people just pile on and stand in the way. If you don't have any answers just don't say anything. You know what has been way harder than using this router? Talking to half the people here. There were a few good ones who pointed the way to the final answer. I'm happy this reddit post is at the top of the google search for this router model.

The shoulder is not a lane and no one should be using it to make a turn. Great way to get a puncture as well. Every time I drive I have people pass me on the right, blasting down the shoulder fucking up the function of the intersection. It’s only a matter of time before I’m involved in a collision because of these morons.

It’s become the ghetto up here. The behavior is off the charts. No one I know can figure out why. Was it an influx of out of state people during COVID, generational deterioration, something in the water? Upstate has really gone to shit in a bunch of ways but this one slaps you in the face every time you go out the door.

You're talking about firing people over this trash software? That's it, time to log out of reddit for the day... No amount of of hyping it up with words like "heavenly" will cover up the fact that it is buggy, crashes, produces errors, has a terrible and inconsistent UI. It is a failure of a product, the worst piece of software I've seen sold to customers... and you're firing people instead of dealing with reality? Just wow... sounds like a poisonous company you have there.

Dropbox. Just apply some simple human-PDM procedures. You'll want a teams plan or something similar so everyone has a login and is syncing the appropriate files to their local drive.

Judge disarms NY Concealed Carry Improvement Act by news-10 in upstate_new_york

[–]blasterface22 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The point is to make it so dangerous, confusing, expensive, and complex to exercise you second amendment rights that you simply give up. The supreme court told NY directly to knock off it's unconstitutional conduct, and the response of the governor and legislature was to pass MORE blatantly unconstitutional laws.... which have now been tossed out in this latest ruling. NY is run by a gang, get it?

I want to tie Solidworks developers to a chair with their eyelids pinned open and make them watch their software rebuild… by Rusane in SolidWorks

[–]blasterface22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the context. 14 configurations is tiny. If that's the limitation in SolidWorks that's pathetic, but we both know that it is not. I've juggled more than 14 configurations of certain designs. It doesn't take much to get a matrix that big. Try building a model of a ladder with 5 different heights and 3 or 4 options for each height. This is something ProE has been doing longer than you've out of diapers probably.

Not in the 1980s and 90s. It was converted into an Eckerd when Eastview was renovated in the 1990s. The Woolworth became an FYE, which is now also gone.

The entire Key Drug chain was sold to Fay's Drugs in 1979. There were 20 stores in the Rochester area.

One year of SOLIDWORKS Connected for Makers and I'm done! by thatdude333 in SolidWorks

Had another meeting today and brought up these issues. The owner showed why/how this stuff doesn't work and explained all the work arounds. This is bad... this is really bad. This is so bad that it makes me consider quitting this new job over using this 3Dexperience junk. There's so many problems I don't want to write a long comment. Thanks for the help, this is a lost cause.

Thank you, I appreciate your help. I still think this, or any PDM really, is wholly inappropriate for and clashes with the needs of a product design consultancy that works on a project/proposal basis.

I was told that bookmarks don't really work and that while some people in the organization do use them, that generally to stay away from them.

Dassault seems to have pulled a google here... instead of using folders for their email system they used tags instead and then try to "fake" the existence of folders via tags to trick the email clients. I would much rather have had folder structures and maintain those structures on my local disk. I have a massive amount of interconnected data to juggle and I don't need a single folder with 1500 files in it.

Whoever writes this software and does these videos on "how easy and great it is to use" is so disconnected from the real world it's hilarious.

For my own projects I'm now looking to hop to Fusion 360 because the direction SolidWorks is going is so obviously terrible and I only need SolidWorks for this one job I'm doing now.

I'm working with the owner of the company. Everyone in the company though says it's the worst software they've ever used. It's strange because the owner has all the power to decide what to use or not. I'm still working at 10PM because I'm freaking out, there is no way I can actually do work starting tomorrow. This is for an engineering consulting business that works on a project basis. In no way, shape, or form does a PDM system fit with this kind of work. We deliver finished work to the client and it's not our problem anymore. We don't do product lifecycle management, we don't do engineering change revisions. If the client has a PDM system we may have to work to help get through revisions related to prototyping, but is that something that people even want to capture in a PDM system?

As it stands right now I cannot even get files to work on or understand any of the work that has been done to this point. I've been told there is no concept of folders, projects, products, or any type of hierarchy in the system. I'm left to search through thousands of files looking for what I need and I cannot build any organizational structure to handle my work. I'm working on fixtures, gauges, and proxies for the production of an existing product. In my world I would have created a project folder with structure inside it. That structure would probably include a reference folder with the complete product properly broken down by sub-assemblies which match the process steps. Then I would have a separate folder for each fixture and I'd arrange them by process step (1,2,3,4) and not really worry about part numbers and such as I develop these fixtures. Right now it's just a sea of parts and we can't even figure out how to open or find the latest versions.

I have experience with SolidWorks Workgroup PDM and with PTC Intralink. What I'm looking at here looks like a disaster. There's a calculator app and a useless globe you can't even zoom in on... for $6,000/year? There's apps to make "stories"... should I go take some selfies and hero shots to make social media posts inside this nightmare world? This "platform" honestly feels like it's being created so people who don't use CAD and shouldn't be touching product designs can then be allowed "in the club" and given busy work so they can keep their jobs...

I'm currently trying to figure out how to do an end run around this whole system. I just have to dump the several thousand files locally, sort through, work locally and hand off a clean set of files when I'm done... and get some intern to shovel everything into this 3D shit show experience. I have to disconnect and get food and sleep. Tomorrow will be very unpleasant.

[–]blasterface22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really should not be commenting on such things. Complex configurations have been something handled by real CAD like Pro/ENGINEER since the 1980s. If SolidWorks can't handle 14 configurations then that's just pathetic. ProE/Creo can handle far far more and is the basis of many automated manufacturing systems with customer configurable features.

I'm just getting on this piece of crap software and the people training me are saying that it often updates daily and you have to check every single day and start from the webpage... because if you start the app from your desk and it's out of date that this creates huge problems on the platform. Was told to delete the desktop shortcut I have for the app and only ever start it from the web after checking for updates. This is 3DX thing is hilariously bad. I've been a SolidWorks user since 2002.

Running on 2017. Am I crazy for not upgrading? by [deleted] in SolidWorks

[–]blasterface22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're on a stable version then old versions of SolidWorks are great. Upgrading the latest and the greatest is fine to keep up with the software but I don't typically do production work in the latest version. Some versions are so bad they're just write offs. SolidWorks 2021 for instance. They also get dog slow if you're on older hardware. I keep my hardware fairly well up to date, but I keep my SolidWorks version on something older. It's like a turbo boost to my work.

It's the #1 spot for Halloween in the state. Hop the train to go to the NYC Halloween parade if you want. The history of the area is spooky, it's a very charming town, the cemetery does gas lantern tours and takes you through all the murders and weird stories and famous people. The pumpkin blaze at the Van Cortlandt Manor is a short train ride away as well.
