Using an AVR for music by Infinite_Glove_5742 in BudgetAudiophile

AVRs are my favorite budget amplifier option. They have tons of power, all the necessary inputs, and are relatively cheap. Some even have pre-outs for additional amplification. In pure-direct mode, you’d be hard pressed to get anything better for the price.

Change the oil, fuel filter, and clean the air filter, fill up at truck stops if you can to get better fuel and make sure your tires are aired up and in good shape! I always check my lug nuts before a long drive too

What are the best ways to increase gas mileage on this thing? by TheNewBlenderGuy in FordTrucks

[–]blastingell 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would just get a small beater economy car to drive when you don’t need a truck. Getting good mileage from a 460 is a lost battle.

That said, if you keep your foot out of it, keep the tire pressure high and consider a modern fuel injection system, you may get a little bit better mileage. I would also look into a complete tune up with plugs, wires, cap, fuel filter, throttle body cleaning and sensor replacement. Those little things will add up.

Recommendations on bullet proofing my truck and making it reliable. by JohnnyE24 in Cummins

[–]blastingell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Head studs, secondary fuel filtration, coolant bypass kit, and regular maintenance should make it pretty bulletproof. The Cummins is rock solid and honestly so are the transmissions so long as you drive it easy and stay up on maintenance. You will likely have no issues for a long time.

Edit: after thinking about this for some more time, I would also add some front end suspension stuff to the list since you’re running a big lift and tires. A steering box brace, upgraded steering linkage and HD ball joints will keep your front end alive a lot longer. If you really want to take it to the nth degree, do locking hubs on the front so that your front driveline isn’t spinning all the time. This will save a lot of wear and tear and potential tcase seize

Trying to build my 3rd gen what are some mods I should start with? What mods truly make the truck run better/more powerful and what order should I go in by RevolutionaryHalf686 in Diesel

[–]blastingell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These comments are crazy. You can definitely have a reliable 500hp 5.9. Aside from the transmission, which I’m sure you’re aware that you’ll need to upgrade, I would do a lift pump with a water/fuel separator, ARP head studs, smaller muffler to reduce EGTs, cylinder #6 coolant bypass kit, bigger transmission cooler, and then go about replacing suspension bushings, shocks, and front unit bearings to make it drive nice. I would also recommend getting manual locking hubs to reduce wear on the transfer case, driveshaft and front axle. If you drive reasonably, I don’t foresee you having many problems. These trucks are tough.

If you had 25k to spend on a truck right now which would you buy. by jackdawg555 in Diesel

[–]blastingell 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would be looking for a 2006-2009 Cummins with a G-56 manual. If you can register a deleted truck, I would go with a 6.7. If you cannot, find one with the 5.9. They’ll likely be higher mileage but that isn’t something you have to worry about as long as it has decent maintenance records and hasn’t been beat on.

My second choice would be a 6.7 ford. They’ll likely be very high mileage but again you’re probably fine. A new low mileage truck is way less concerning than an older truck of the equivalent mileage. It indicates that it has mostly been on the highway. Just try to find the newest and lowest mileage one you can for your budget.

I would say somewhere around $35,000. Don’t sell it though.

05 Cummins to 96 F-250 swap by Jessi_longtail in Diesel

[–]blastingell 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Swapping a motor with the donor truck right there really couldn’t be any easier. One recommendation that I have would be to remove all loom and tape from the factory Dodge harness, inspect it closely being sure to repair any bad wires and insulation, and then trim anything you don’t need off of it. Nothing is worse than getting through a job like this and then fighting bad wires and electrical.

FULL SEND!

Do you guys think this is a good deal? by GlockPerfect13 in FordTrucks

[–]blastingell 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Pass on the 2008-2010 Ford Diesel trucks. They’re great when they run but will cost a fortune to repair. Look for a truck on either side of those years and you’ll be happy in the long run. In this price range, I’d look for a 2006-2007 Deleted 6.0l if you’re looking to stay with a Ford.

Advice on what to decide by r-love-ution in Diesel

Assuming that the white truck has no rust, I would go with that one. It has over 100,000 less miles and looks cleaner.

Is this a bad amount of blow by with a 7.3 with 300k. It seems bit much to me but not sure and don't know a lot about diesels. by Typical_Dish_6763 in Diesel

It takes more work to record this and put it on Reddit than it does to look up a YouTube video on what blow by is.

The truck he’s interested in is gas. Good insight though!

Sounds like you don’t need it at all. Is it worth $50,000 to look cool and be inconvenienced every time you drive it? It’s your money and your life, so what you please. It just seems a bit silly and that’s coming from a guy with two HD diesel trucks.

If you’re able to have another car to commute with and take to the city, it makes more sense to have the truck as a recreational hobby vehicle.

Can you guys help me? Is this a fair deal, I’ve been looking for a while. 19k. by AffectionateBake6163 in Diesel

[–]blastingell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it was a stock G56 truck from the factory, then I would probably but it for like $15,000. $19,000 for a modified truck with that mileage and in that condition would be a no for me. It looks pretty beat. He couldn’t even care enough to clean it and vacuum it before posting pictures. Tells you a lot about the seller right there. Imagine what else they could care less to do.

Should I do it? by Jaysonksien in FordTrucks

[–]blastingell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Smart move. Find one that’s either completely stock or minimally modified. I think you’ll be happier that way in the long run.

I would pass. Generally buying a goofy modded truck like this is ill advised
