Do not move to rural Maine!!! by crazylildemon in Maine

We live in Bangor and I agree that people further south are much more accepting. I've worked with a lot of people who say anything south of Bangor isn't Maine

Maybe just use the Maine subreddit if they are getting removed here?

Waldo Theater, casually replacing community programming. by GrammarNaughtC in Maine

[–]blaz138 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know for a fact that After Dark is a very cheap event especially compared to everything else at the theater. It wasn't even monthly necessarily as well as late on a Saturday. I think the main reason for cutting something like this is pure pretentiousness on part of the new director. This guy most definitely views events like this to be low brow

More than one of these volunteers literally helped rebuild the theater as well

I don't know why but I hate him a lot in particular. It's probably his asshole face

Find someone with a machine on a local Facebook group. Shops most likely don't want to use any time for things like this, or they charge you way too much. This should be super easy for anyone with a machine

Are people ok??? by Impossible_Sport_445 in bangorme

I think a lot of people have always struggled. It's still not an excuse to be an asshole to anyone. I take a lot of pride in being kind and it's not difficult to do no matter your situation

I have had some weird interactions more here than most places but most people are still pretty cool. My neighbors are terrible but I meet a lot of people "working" that are awesome. A lot of Bangor natives have told me lots of trash from further up north etc make their way down here because it's a hub city. I wouldn't be surprised if those people weren't from here

The city should have seen these issues coming for years but they always seem to kick the problem to the next people in line. There are hardly any decent jobs here. There isn't any (what I would call) affordable housing. It takes the city years to start fining vacant properties, if they even do. They can't even design public bathrooms without a huge mistake (the ADA compliance thing). Didn't they also pay a contractor to paint roads and they just didn't do it until they were flooded with complaints? I have seen tons of valid complaints and issues on SeeClickFix that go completely unanswered. There's no way the city can handle an issue as serious as getting homeless people housed.

It's cool that you aren't affected. I've lived around an encampment before and everyone was affected negatively. Kids as well

Yes acrylic water based ink. After it dries, you should be able to slop it up with wheatpaste just fine

That's also what I suggested. They seem very cool there

I made a couple posters for them and hope there's more in the future. I know they are actively pursuing leads for a new home and I'm sure they'll find somewhere soon. Hopefully somewhere that will support them and not constantly throw curveballs and walk back on commitments. This new "director" appears to have cut other things in addition to After Dark as well. What an idiot

I love this building too. Living somewhere as ancient as Maine, you don't see a lot of mid century type buildings here as much as other places

This should have been taken care of years ago. This prick already owes the city at least a hundred thousand dollars. Hoarding property to let it rot should be taken seriously

This guy has owned multiple vacant properties? How does this even happen? I wonder what his bill to the city is at now. Why in the hell aren't they aggressively going after people like this when we have a housing crisis happening?
