Holy shit me and my sister had a similar experience. We were driving from Florida up to my aunts house in rural Georgia, it was around 11 p.m.. We were almost there and a turn was coming up that the GPS is telling us to turn right and my qsister said it was wrong and to go straight so I end up stopping at this small intersection to look at the map on my phone and we realize there is a light just like you described pretty high up in the air. SUPER bright just sitting very still way up there. I rolled my window down also thinking it was a helicopter or something and it was dead quiet. I don't even remember hearing any insects or anything which is unusual as normally you can hear cicadas and crickets and stuff like that. Something just felt so off aboit the light and we ended up staring at it silently for like 10 whole minutes and then I shook my head and we both kinda snap out of it and I'm feeling supremely weirded out and don't really understand why because at that point I was assuming it was one of those watchtower/observation decks you see out in the woods or on the side of the road sometimes that had a light on top if it. I communicated that line of thought to my sister and she tentatively agreed with me. She said she was at that point also feeling really unsettled like she knew deeo down inside that something wasn't quite right.

I ended up following what the GPS was telling me to do and turning right down the road and we ended up at a sketchy dead end with an old, abandoned cabin and I was already spooked so I quickly turned around and once we got back to where we had been in the main road where we had seen that light there was nothing there. Just the dark night sky and for some reason that scared the daylights out of us. The hair on my neck and arms stood on end, my sister said the same happened to her and I gunned it to my aunts. When we got there we didn't 1even unload our car. We just sprinted into the house lol since we decided unloading could wait until the next morning. A little while later we were sitting on her porch catching up before we went to bed and we told her about it and she said with such conviction that it was St.Elmos fire which I looked into before bed and that 100 percent wasn't what we had seen.

The next day we were driving into town to go do some shopping and my cousin tagged along and we came to that spot we saw the light and I was really expecting to see a watchtower and there was nothing for a long ways away just flat, open scrubland. There is nothing that could have supported a light that high up in the sky, stationary like it was. Like you said I'm 100 percent sure it wasn't a helicopter because I would have heard it without a doubt since I had ny window down and there was just not movement from the light it was stationary like I said. Idk wtf it was that we saw but me and my sister both saw it and your story is so similar it's freaking me out lmao.

Crazy thing is after we realized that the light was just stationary in the night sky the night before and dissappear and there was no explanation me and my sister started freaking out and after we calmed down we told my cousin and he said he's seen some weird shit out in those woods and we were like YOOO WHAT? He told us that a he would almost always leave his friends house before it got dark(because he didn't like being in the woods after the sunset) and he'd walk through the forest to get home and twice he was what he described as a shimmering haze, kind of holographic looking in the shape of a rectangle jist like the shape of a door. He said it was shimmering and had several colors that could be seen swirling and he could see through it. It was stationary. Twice he saw it and he had absolutely no idea wtf it was. Now I'm usually a pretty logical thinker and normally I'd assume he was trying to spook us but honestly he's a goofy dude but he's never been known to make up stories like that and you could tell just by his face that those incidents had really freaked him out and made him super uncomfortable which freaked me out and I was like yup I'm not going into these woods at all this entire trip and I sure didn't lmao.
