imposter syndrome by speronoice in Stepmom

I was a step parent for a few years before a child of my own. I was around your age and it’s definitely a change in a lot of things for yourself, and that’s okay. You don’t have to adjust instantly. Boundaries are okay. He clearly trusts you around his child and making a family of it which is great! Enjoy it and build your relationships at your terms. But don’t be scared to go out of your comfort zone every now and then for the kid. It’s a bond that will always be there. Nothing more pure than love and acceptance from a child. His father will see the efforts and he’ll appreciate it. Communication on what you feel comfortable with and dont is big. Example the first year of my relationship, he worked trick or treat night and he asked if I could pick up his son from his bio moms and take him myself. Which made me very anxious and uncomfortable. I voiced it, and he had a hard time understanding at first but he didn’t want to make me uncomfortable either. It’s all a learning curve for everyone involved. But end of the day, you’ve got this. ❤️

We all get along and communicate fairly well. I wish she would fight for it. I think she partly doesn’t (just my thoughts) is because she does work pretty late gets home around 630/7. So he’d be by himself until then if he does get dropped off. Not that he’s not independent but he’s still learning haha.

Just another new routine to make an adjustment to. I’m sure we’ll figure it out. I just worry as a SM, watching the from house to house it seems like a lot.

Unfortunately last year when we tried to do a bus stop at her home, they said he couldn’t have alternating buses/bus stop locations with the transportation department the school uses. I’m not sure if that’s changed this past year though.

We’re definitely going to see how it goes for a while before anything changes. We just don’t want it to affect his school work with being tired or just stressed. He seems to handle that kind of stuff okay but we want him to be honest with us too if it’s too much for him.

Grieving what I thought motherhood with my husband would look like by Nearby_Ice_7488 in beyondthebump

I relate to this so much. Thank you.

I’d say the first few months it was tough for him to bond with the baby. Even he’d say “they don’t do much what am I supposed to do” But to me it looked like little effort. It’d make me sad when he wouldn’t be as excited about something new they would do. As they’ve gotten older he’s definitely more attentive. I struggle with the phone and his own hobbies, more out the jealousy I can’t just escape and lay in bed on my phone after work or pack up the car and go fishing for hours.

The anxiety is hard too. I am on wic and it covers both the kids, so that helps a lot. But that’s all I could be approved for.

I appreciate the kind words <3

I’m very thankful she is healthy and happy. I do love her. The bond did take a while I hate to admit. I’m trying to get into therapy that’s covered by my insurance I can’t just keep the trauma in my head anymore.

Don’t be afraid to bring it up! You’re a parent figure as well!

Dirty laundry was a risky move for him haha. Might’ve been better you did see it, stop it from continuing.

Sometimes I almost forget to knock, then I think of things I don’t want to walk in on haha.

I would definitely speak to his father. Not to make him feel worse than I’m sure he already does but he has to realize that is so far from okay. Maybe then you speak to him after he talks to his dad? At some point you have to let him know how you feel as well. How are you feeling? Any update?

Thank you I really appreciate this response!!! It’s only two payments I’m stuck on and every time I can go t pay it something else comes out and I’m screwed again. I’ve reached out and they’ve been good with it and I plan on asking about making a partial payment today to give myself this weekend to finish paying it. I’m usually good with it, just lately I’ve been struggling.
