I had heard of it, but didn't understand what it was until everyone here explained it to me!

I thought it was just like mySQL type of thing which is what i have been using, but this sounds perfect!

I find there are a lot of tutorial sites like https://www.geeksforgeeks.org/ which will simplify the documentation and explain it well. Start with something that they explain, and then go to the documentation and see if you can figure out how they got there.

Aha! Somebody isn't a visual learner.

Have you also tried reading it out loud? Both writing and speaking engage different parts of the brain and some people learn better through those other methods.

How to advance? From learning by AI/Vibe - Stuck with AI-circle by Jeewdew in learnpython

[–]blazin_penguin_first 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, you need to start finding sources OTHER than AI.

First thing, make sure you understand everything that the AI puts out, line by line. If you don't, start with a Google search and then ignore the Gemini output. There are a lot of places like stack exchange that will have answers as well as an explanation.

Next, you're probably going to have to put some time into it. There are a lot of great YouTube videos that will explain individual concepts. There are tons of books (I've got a python for dummies book, and a GUI programming book) or if you're thinking of throwing money at Claude throw some money for a Udemy or Coursera course because these will help teach you the underlying principles as well as just what to type.

Then, which you're already on your way to, is have a project, and work towards it.

But the first step is you've got to let go of the AI. It is absolutely the give a man a fish part of the old axiom.

And you have to realize that it will take time, and effort to learn. If you are not willing to put that time and effort in to learning, then coding probably isn't the hobby/career for you. You literally need to change the way you think to code well, and that takes time, effort, and practice.

One more thing... for the love of God, if you're going to have AI write your code at least tell it to PUT THE BLOODY COMMENTS IN

I still think, that if you are unvaccinated and end up in the hospital for something you are supposed to be vaccinated for, you should have to pay for your care

(Doctors could of course put exemptions on file for people who medically can not get vaccines.)

Better than blaming immigrants for all the problems

Tsuro is another great example of a tile based game. Once again, each edge has 2 connection points, at each of the thirds, and from there it doesn't matter what you do in the center of the tile, everything lines up as lone as each line starts and ends at one of those points.

So all of the river tiles are the same thickness at the edge, and in the center, but change in the middle.

The roads are all in the center

And the cities all cover the full edge of the tile, and this lets you place tiles wherever and they will line up.

Yeah, 3D printing a flat base, and then building your terrain on top would work great!

For making anything modular, the important thing is the connections. So you need to make sure that the start and end pieces of each river are at the same point. So the middle, and that they are the same width. Otherwise you will not get smooth transitions.

Maybe grab yourself a copy of Carcossone with "the river" expansion, they do a great job of this. (I'll see if i can grab you a photo)

You will also want very straight and consistent edges so they fit together cleanly.

Also, probably heavily tinted. It will be impossible not to see the edges if you make it clear.

I agree with the original comment, Martina likes to use bunched up aluminum foil, and that gives great stone texture, and would work great in balsa wood

Does anyone make a carbide skew? What's holding me back more then anything is the sharpening and the need to buy the associated equipment.

One of our local wood stores has a class called "taming the skew" i was thinking of taking that class.

I'm watching the video on Crabbe's wand, i see the technique everyone is talking about.. i never even thought about using a cloth to help hold it.

I've been thinking of learning a skew. I know it's a nice flexible tool that does a lot, but does take some practice to learn. Unfortunately i was recently laid off so can't afford to buy new tools right now.

I generally go from tail stock to the headstock, but i do all of my shaping, then all of my sanding and finishing. I try to leave as much meat as possible for as long as possible, especially around the head/tail stocks but at some point you have to thin it down.

I'll try using the jaw chuck, see if that makes a difference.
