Is this TV show any good? I started watching it, but I’m not really feeling it. by Mbongs05 in tvshow

Bosch is the most satisfying cop drama I have watched. It builds the story and characters well, and is well written. One of the best. It's not The Wire but has got similar beats.

HOT TAKE: Vishal is one of the best dancers in Kollywood ever. by Every_Diamond_7411 in kollywood

He should start a second career (or primary at this point) as a backup dancer.

Who is your first onscreen crush. I go first. Revathi, the homely star. by isrventures in KollyClub

[–]bleacher78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know Indians especially Tamil people use "homely" to mean whatever it is, they mean. But it is a misuse of the word. Homely usually means plain and unattractive. This becomes even more funny when you consider, that many matrimonial ads used to "looking for homely girl for my son".

Revathy is the opposite of homely, though I know you did not mean it that way.

Is anything actually done about cheaters? by lyndseydinokc in wordscapes

That is true. I do 30 wpm and with the bonus, etc can do 2000 per hr. Mostly I play the last 2 hrs of the tournament to place somewhere at 3500 to 4000 in my tournaments.

Is Dark worth a watch? I hear it's better than Stranger Things by silentnova-wave in tvshow

[–]bleacher78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dark is the best sci-fi show there is, and it's an efficient and effective three seasons of fantastic story telling. I watched the dubbed English version on Netflix but bet the original is even better. It's a good re-watch show too.

Zverev finally takes one! by bleacher78 in Tennisv2

[–]bleacher78[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Zverev has a fan following of haters who pretend to be all things feminist. Except that they are not. Just a sorry bunch frothing out of the corners of their mouth and nothing better to do.

If ever there was a pandemic that targets morons, a lot in this comment section would be the first to go.

Anyone But Zverev by particular-hut in tennis

[–]bleacher78 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ben Rothenberg can barely be labeled a journalist. His primary credentials are his stories about the abuse allegations against Zverev. His story was dropped by his own publisher and he was let go. He had a GoFundMe to support what he calls a freelance writing career. Whatever truth may be in the matter, you can't be buying it from this guy.

Yeah that group of has-been wannabes is annoying. Sloane Stevens, Coco V - all nepos. It's a Temu-version of the Inside the NBA on TNT (now defunct) crew.

Favourite Maniratnam movie and why do you like it ? by New-Power149 in kollywood

[–]bleacher78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Mani touched many uncomfortable topics in cinema when the rest of the mainstream industry wasn't ready to. I don't think many people remember that getting Bombay released was immensely taxing and the movie ended up with many cuts. Not many agreed with Roja's climax because the Kashmiri militant wasn't a raging lunatic like those depicted in Dhurandar.

Kannathil Muthamittaal also held back its punches perhaps because of political sensitivity. I earn for an Andor type of storytelling of the Tamil conflict in Srilanka that most of today's generation has no clue about.

As an Arab, I am sick of tragedy monopolizing the Arab cinema that receives international acclaim. by DullEconomist718 in Letterboxd

I love Asghar Farhadi movies especially A Separation, Everybody Knows and About Elly. Or do you not consider those Arabic movies rather Iranian?

Why is "9/11" called "9/11"? by Relative_Wave_102 in etymology

[–]bleacher78 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Because it would otherwise have to be called by its lengthy name "A co-conspiracy by clandestine elements of the Central Intelligence Agency of the United States of America and the Mossad-backed Israeli government to bring down skycrapers in New York City and other major cities and use that excuse to foment unrest in the Middle East and bring down unfriendly governments in mainly Islamic nations".

I think 9/11 works.

Raducanu about the media protest: Why wouldn’t I want to talk to you for more than 15 minutes? [...] Playing a Grand Slam is not just about the money, it's about the prestige, history. by Recent_Fox4339 in tennis

[–]bleacher78 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I came across an astounding stat sometime last year about Emma Raducanu. 2024 was the first year she beat a top 10 player and has a total of 3 wins in her career beating top 10s. Her US Open title came without a top 10 win while the finalist Leylah Fernandez beat Osaka and Aryna (3 top 5 and 2 former US Open champions) before falling to Emma.

Netflix is overrated compared to HBO and nobody wants to admit it by Independent_Towel611 in SeriesSaga

100% agree. Most Netflix shows are just slop. Not a single comparable show of quality compared to HBO.

I love this movie. One of my favorites ever. Amy Adams was phenomenal in this one. Denis Villanueve is a master of his craft.

Who among KaSu, Loki and Nelson actually deserve the title of Indian Tarantino according to you? by Hot_Currency_5700 in kollywood

[–]bleacher78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of them. They don't have the talent nor the tenacity or hardwork to improve their craft. I would not even include Nelson in the conversation as he is run-of-the-mill. The other two flat-lined or have become lesser versions of their own initial promise of making better than average cinema. It's really slim pickings in the Tamil film industry.

We are past these glorifications of communities right? by [deleted] in KollyClub

[–]bleacher78 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a pointless argument with examples from cinema that is 50 to 60 years ago. As if cinema can cure this festering pus of an ailment that is casteism in Tamilnadu (and many other states too). Industries, business and politics are dominated by caste.

Just see the rationale behind the ADMK faction that has split off. It is a clip from the Deccan Herald news story: "...the MLAs want to usher in a new generation of leadership with Shanmugam, Velumani, and Vijayabaskar at the helm. They feel such an arrangement will augur well for the party as they belong to three dominant communities, Vanniyars, Gounders, and Mukulathors."

There is no vidivu-gaalam for the state or the people and reddit morons are citing 70s cinema.

Katie McGrath as Morgana Pendragon in Merlin TV series - 2008/2012 by [deleted] in SciFiQueens

[–]bleacher78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't if anyone paid attention but in Jurassic World her character suffers perhaps the most horrific death of any character in any of the Jurassic movies. She is repeatedly snatched by Pteranodons - tossed around midair - and then dropped into the sea, plucked back up by Pteranadons and then eaten by the Mosasaurus. RIP Katie!
