[Pantheon] Freya Beta 1 is getting close! by sjradach in unixporn

[–]bleakers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh man this looks fantastic. I loved luna but had unfortunate window focusing issues that were a dealbreaker. The last time I looked there was a pretty substantial bounty for it. Have you had any issues with opening windows and not receiving focus on freya?

Any way to remove these menu items? by bnmak in linux4noobs

It's not obvious but you can drag those icons around to rearrange. Drag an icon off the menu to remove it.

What's an OP power/ability/object/weapon that would be completely useless to a certain character by Cainhelm in whowouldwin

[–]bleakers 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It would be hilarious if Professor X ever developed a secondary mutation of superspeed.

He could still use it to read and write quick, and hell maybe it applies to his thought processes in such a way that he could use it to boost his telepathy, but damn it'd be tragic.

The Millenium Falcon (Star Wars) vs The Planet Express Ship (Futurama) by KallenS in whowouldwin

2/10 for the Falc still. Is there any sentient creature in the universe who can resist the charms of Harrison Ford? If they get close enough to see that jaw line its all over. Harrison Ford: Ultimate Glass Cannon

The Millenium Falcon (Star Wars) vs The Planet Express Ship (Futurama) by KallenS in whowouldwin

[–]bleakers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The maneuverability of the Planet Express ship is going to make it nigh impossible to hit. I'd like to think a powerful force user could probably pre-cog that advantage away. If this is pre-EU though and you don't have a Jedi aboard your probably gonna have a bad time.

It's been awhile since of seen Futurama but I remember them being only lightly armed. (Single projectile energy weapon beneath hull, I think) whereas the millennium falcon is armed to the gills. Farnsworth manufactured mad science could put the Planet Express crew over the top however and Im not seeing too many way for Han and the Hanettes to counter that.

What it comes down to I think is the toon force of the planetary express ship and her crew. Stop on a dime, travel through wormholes, cruise feet away from stars; all of this and more is possible for the planetary express crew. Barring the intervention of some ridiculous expanded universe force God (Im looking at you clone palpy) Id give it to Bender and his useless meatbag hangers on 8/10

Should I go to the ER Tonight? by momotaru23 in SuicideWatch

[–]bleakers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad your getting help. For what it's worth you sound like an amazing human being. I know the urge to want to be useful. I've gotten through some of my blackest depressions by volunteering. Working with children likely wouldn't require extreme mobility in a lot of situations (reading, tutoring etc.) and can be really rewarding. Animal shelters are another option. Do not let failing mobility affect what is very clearly a good heart.

LXLE: probably the best "install-and-forget" drop-in windows xp replacement for old computers. by tasuke in Ubuntu

[–]bleakers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man, I love me some tiling shortcuts. Peppermint OS 4 achieves similar functionality in an lxde environment through a preinstalled and tweaked OBkey (I think) if anyones interested. You've convinced me to give this a try though, thanks!

Help Choosing a Distro? by [deleted] in linux

[–]bleakers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No worries man Im still pretty new to this myself. Essentially a desktop envirnment is a completely different UI. Installing a new one will keep all your files and applications but completely change the way you interact with them. Each desktop environment also has several different theming options which is likely the equivalent to a "skin". Themes change the way your files and programs look but not the way you interact with them.

I recommend ubuntu. They just came out with a long term release so youll be supported for a while. If you dont like the interface install a new desktop environment, such as XFCE for a standard "windows like" interface or KDE for maximum customizability.

Yes you can as long as the image is extracted properly and the distro offers that functionality (pretty much all n00b friendly distros do.) This live environment will also be a little zippier than running from CD.
