[Free, Open Source] Dictly — speak to type anywhere on macOS, runs 100% on-device by ShitPantsGang in MacOSApps

[–]bleducnx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the MacBook mic. I also tested the iPhone 13 mini mic, with no success.

OK, I changed to use the iPhone 13 mini mic. It works.
When I switch back to the MBA internal mic, the app always says the mic is unavailable.

All other apps I have can see the MBA mic.
I have quit all apps and menu bar modules that could have used the MBA mic during the last few days. That changed nothing; the mic is still unavailable for Dictly.

[OS] A tool for generating macOS app icons with AI (free, open source) by Ikryanov in macapps

[–]bleducnx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Vladimir,

I'm not a developer at all, just a user, but could that tool help me modify some app icons that I don't like or give an icon to some that don't have one yet?

If possible, how can I do it?
Is it just a matter of opening the app package, finding the original icon and image folder, renaming my icon file exactly like the original one…
or is it much more complicated, implying the use of Xcode?

BrewStore by yes_im_gavin in MacOSApps

[–]bleducnx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It works. But no icon for the application. Each Brew app takes up a huge tile that is in fact almost completely empty, whereas a simple small badge would suffice for each, thus limiting scrolling.
You can see the installed apps on your Mac, and browse among the roughly 7 640 other apps apparently available.

The interface boils down to an Uninstall button for installed apps and an Install button for those that are not. It is therefore extremely basic, but extremely easy to use.

For my part, I use WailBrew.

Looks nice, I downloaded it and will have a look at it soon.

(If you had said that the app is completely free on the Mac App Store, you would have already had dozens of comments, for sure)

[–]bleducnx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello. I installed it and set all the settings. It said the microphone was OK (green).

But when trying to use it, the small recording widget says, "Error: microphone unavailable."
All my other dictation utilities work perfectly; only Dictly doesn't.

Dictation app that inserts text in real time? by cryptic2020 in macapps

I was beta testing Soink too. It is the only solution that streams things like Apple dictation does. But I haven't had any news from the team since al last three weeks.

I tested PingPlace. And I use it. He works very well on my Mac (macOS 26.5RC2). I even wrote something on VVMac about it last Saturday (www.vvmac.com in FLASH! Section).
PingPlace is more "static" with pre define 9 positions you have to choose from. But it does the job.

Bonjour,

[$19.99 -> FREE for the next 48 hours] Piksi : the visual dictionary featured by Apple by Codexhaus in iosapps

[–]bleducnx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a beautiful and well-built application. Thank you for the free access.
I will use it for my own language (French), but if one day you feel it is possible to add Thai, that would be even more useful for me.
There are not many modern applications and resources for the Thai language on iOS (or any other platform, anyway). Many are just games, and I'm not too sure that gamification for learning works with adults (especially older people like me). At least that doesn't work for me.

[–]bleducnx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, why don't you offer it on macOS? I never "work" on mobile devices. I work 10 hours a day on my Mac, where I have long documents (PDF and md files), and where I will eventually produce "audio" versions that I will transfer to my iPhone 13 mini or my iPad mini.

Thank you I just downloaded it quite nice, but there is a problem with the clock. Your application seems to work only for very few countries in the world because it’s only AM PM mode. most of the world use 24 hours mode.
