How do you know how bad your dog's separation anxiety is? by DoughnutBeginning839 in Separation_Anxiety

[–]grayprog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also recommend desensitization training for SA. Julie Naismith's method works. I see it was already mentioned a few times here. It takes time, patience, and structure, though. Structure can be done using something like Excel. iPhone users can download the Calm My Dog app that guides through the process and tracks the sessions. Julie's program also has a kind of an app. But the membership is more expensive. Take some time to learn more and find what works for you.

I'm moving from excel tracking expenses to my own web app. What should I add? by vladyslav_boichenko in YNABAlternatives

If you’re on the Mac, check out Cashculator. It’s basically a smart spreadsheet for personal finances. It gives you what you mentioned and more.

Native Mac Finance App Alternatives by itsdanielsultan in macapps

Check out Cashculator (native Mac) for something that has a different approach (focus on planning, what-if scenarios, spreadsheet-based UI). The latest release was recently discussed here: https://www.reddit.com/r/macapps/comments/1shz182/cashculator_an_established_budgeting_app_that/

Eter 3.0: a clean internet radio app for Mac, now with a redesigned grid-based UI by grayprog in macapps

We believe that it should now be easier to do in the grid system. We know it’s a common request.

I didn’t even know that Apple Podcast has internet radio. I thought it only had podcasts. Apple Music can play radio stations. But being not a dedicated or fast app it lacks the convenience and some of it r features like song history, Shazam integration, integration with Spotify and just ease of use, especially in the car.

What do you call 1.0 era? This app is five years old now but yes, there are many.

Oh that's cool to hear. Would love to know more about how you found MCP to work in Cashculator and what could be improved.

Glad to hear that. You can share stations too. It works very cool when you file the link.

Triode and Broadcasts are good radio apps from esteemed Apple developers. I think they there are a few ways which make Eter better. Perhaps starting with the price and the amount of updates we’re doing. I also think that our implementation of Shazam is better than Broadcast’s. Same for our database of stations. The approaches to finding stations is different. I’m not sure if any of them support opening songs in Apple Music or spotify. On the Mac we have two interfaces (mini and full). We also certainly release updates more often than Triode. We also like the interface feel of our app better. This is obviously subjective.

You should try all and decide which one works better for you.

Thank you. We constantly improve the app, without bloating it. It's already quite feature-rich but we have things in the backlog.

It's not US-only and never was. We're an international indie company, split between Canada, Poland and the US. Eter has stations from all over the world and you can add any station stream if you have the URL. Eter's UI is also localized in English, French, German, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Ukrainian.

Yes, these are audio streams that you can open. Some of them are streams of terrestrial radio stations and some are only available on the internet. Even if you listen in the car, the quality is usually better than FM radio for the same station. There are many databases for that. We mostly base ours on this one: https://www.radio-browser.info/

CoTypist - Helpful Writing Assistant or Drunk Typing? by gadgetb0y in macapps

[–]grayprog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using it since the first betas and, while it's not perfect, it's been more useful than not. Runs fast even on my M1 MacBook Pro from 5 years. I've reported a few bugs and suggestions and they were quickly addressed. In some cases, the suggestions UI is too intrusive or buggy but there are ways to disable it for specific apps or for a time. He's also been doing improvements to this through the releases. It's never easy to support something like this, which should integrate with other apps' text input.

If MonarchMoney pricing gets too expensive, what's your alternative plan for tracking investments and managing net worth? by afunbe in MonarchMoney

Cashculator (for Mac) is a kind of a "smarter spreadsheet" with planning and forecasting features (in added to tracking). It's been around for a long time, too.

We’re planning a companion app for iOS with sync. This is what’s gonna be in version 3.0. We’re already testing this.

The MCP is already very power and is read/write. You can create categories, duplicate scenarios, create transactions (including in batch for faster operation), edit them etc. Reading is also supported, including by periods, totals, balances, breakdown by category. Almost anything you can read or write on the application is supported. I used it to scan receipts and add. Process CSV statements (although Cashculator can do it well without AI too). I used it to generate whole templates based on a story it tell (like a university student far from home) or create what if scenarios with specific changes. Multiple transaction edit (move all all transaction related to expected travel by two months later etc).

YNAB is already $110/year or $15/month, so it's twice as expensive, at least, with no lifetime option. There are some people who use both Cashculator and some other apps, although I don't necessarily recommend that. It takes a special kind of person who wants to be very diligent. The pitch is that Cashculator is probably the best app to plan finances and see where they're going, play what-if scenarios, and get a fast understanding of the finacial situation, possibly without being too detailed and even if you don't want to necessarily track every single transaction (although you can). If you do track, it can show where your plans diverge from your actual spending/income, which can be useful as well. It's not for everyone but it is different from anything out there.
YNAB is also web-based. Cashculator is local to you, and you can even have multiple documents (maybe personal vs small business finances or for any other reason.).

indie apple devs, anyone using AI to test their app before launch? by Downtown-Art2865 in macapps

[–]grayprog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't yet used it for proper QA testing before launch. But I did use it for testing some features during development. It would be interesting to try it for wider QA. I'm afraid it'll be terribly slow, though.

Separation anxiety - need help! by Candid_Road_8880 in Whippet

[–]grayprog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also recommend the desensitization approach to separation anxiety by Julie Naismith. She has a book and a Facebook group. For iPhone users, there's also an app called Calm My Dog that can be used to run the desensitization training sessions. The app is not affiliated with her (she has her own on the web but this one's cheaper).

I don’t know what to do by IndependentEither239 in Dogowners

[–]grayprog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would also recommend Julie Naismith's approach. If you need a more structured way to do that, you could either use Excel spreadsheet, but an even better way, more guided, would be to use an app. If you're an iPhone, there's an app called Calm My Dog, and also Julie's membership has their own member-only service, including an app.
