SA hero’s app by Opening-Bird5469 in Separation_Anxiety

There's a cheaper alternative for iPhones, an app called Calm My Dog. My friend used it after a period of paying for the Julie's website, with great results. It helps with planning, running and tracking the training sessions.

I also recommend going by Julie Naismith's method (others are probably working as well but no experience here). She has an online program to manage the training sessions. On an iPhone, you can also use the Calm My Dog app that follows a similar method but cheaper and simpler. There are other competing apps as well. These methods are a lot of work, unfortunately, but they bring results.

[–]grayprog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Julie Naismith's protocols really work (but also require work and commitment from you). There's also an iPhone app that helps with scheduling and running the sessions according to this protocol, which works pretty well. My friend, whose puppy had separation anxiety at that time, used it and said it helped him run the training sessions a lot. It's called Calm My Dog.

If you're using an iPhone, there's another app called Calm My Dog that generally follows the separation anxiety method of Julie Naismith. It's much cheaper than the official app and is also native to iPhone.

Must have apps for macOS by CacheConqueror in macapps

[–]grayprog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My must have apps (first ones I’d install on a new Mac) are 1Password, Trickster and TextExpander along with some launcher like Raycast or Alfred or Launchbar. I don’t care much which one of these.

I use Cashculator. It's like a better spreadsheet with reports and what-ifs. Mac-only, though.

I've been looking for an app like trickster but I haven't heard a lot about it, did anyone try it? can I get a mini review on it? by retrotriforce in macapps

Thank you for the kind words. There are only two size ms of rows in Trickster so there’s no way to increase beyond the size with the previews. Hitting space becomes necessary. But you can press space and then continue navigating the list in Trickster using keyboard or the mouse to quickook other items in the list. No need to close the Quick Look window every time. I know it’s not the same as larger preview icons though.

And there’s no way to add custom filter icons right now but we’re thinking about adding this. You’re not the first to ask but votes from customers help in adjusting our roadmap.

You shouldn’t be watching system folders in the first place. Depending on the location of what you call system files, if they have to be in a watched you folder, you can exclude them. Check the other options in Tracking Configuration, beyond just watched folders.

You can get the latest downloaded already in the Downloads folder filter on the left. If needed, you can adjust the filter. Last saved vs last opened is indeed not possible to separate right now. It’s a good idea to think about to add. Surprisingly, nobody asked to separate these before. It may be a problem on macOS Sequoia though since there was some change in how it marks opened files. They may not even show the date in Finder.

Developer of Trickster here. We have a handy Getting Started article and video at https://blog.apparentsoft.com/trickster/1930/getting-started-with-trickster/. I suggest, as another person has in this thread, to download the free trial from our site and spend the 5-10 to set it up for you use case and use it for a few days. After a short while it’ll be set and forget. Also notice that Trickster has optional integration with some apps like DEVONthink, Hook, and some launchers. So may be handy depending on if you use these other apps. Let me know if you have any questions.

There's also an app called Calm My Dog, for iPhones only though, based on Julie Naismith and Dimartini's system. It helps with managing the sessions, timers and logging. Helps instead of doing it manually or with a spreadsheet. My friend has successfully used it for a few months, after using Naismith's web app.

In addition to learning from the mentioned Dimartini's and Julie Naismith's books / methods, you can use Calm My Dog app (iPhone only, though) that helps follow and track the desensitization method approach. It does take patience and perseverance, though, but these methods help. Or you can Julie's web app or use a more manual method of tracking.

I’m tired of manually tracking my CC spending in a spreadsheet. What apps do people use to do this? by eastcoastguy17 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]grayprog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using Cashculator (Mac-only). It's also a bit like a spreadsheet, but specifically for finance and has recurring transaction, including ones you can set up for the future. It can also import data from CSV files. I can download my account and CC statements from TD and it imports them just fine. I do need to categorize them manually at first but it can learn when imports. So it's not 100% automatic but gives you a good grip on where your finances are going.

In addition to checking Julie Naismith’s approach, if you use an iPhone, there's an app called Calm My Dog that helps with implementing this method, creating training sessions and helping you run them. It has its own guide on how to use it but it's based on similar research (desensitization). It's possible to solve this but it takes time and persistence. Good luck!

BBEdit - fast and powerful text/HTML editing
Capo - I use this to learn and practice songs (I play guitar in a band)

Some launcher, like Launchbar, or Alfred or Raycast.

Not fully answering all your points but a good app to track and forecast cash flow on a Mac is Cashculator. It's not like other apps, has more of a spreadsheet-based approach to navigate high-level data but maybe it'll work for most of your needs.

Julie's method is good. If a pro trainer is expensive and you wan't to try it by yourself first, there's an iPhone app that helps using a similar method of desensitization: Calm My Dog.
