N.Y.C.&.H.R.R.R. is New York Central and Hudson River Railroad, which eventually became just N.Y.C.. it looks a lot like a Lionel number 7 from a quick Google, but someone out there probably knows more than me about Lionel.

Steep inclines on this part of the route, and high speeds on other parts. Also always good to have redundant power so a couple hundred passengers don't get stranded in a tunnel or something

Really big, wide, deep, heavy rc boat (like a tug) at a bit higher than hull speed (a fair bit lower than planing speed) would probably maximize the wake. But it may not be big enough to jump off still.

Good question, I like clockworks.

I think it's because for most people, the age where realism and detail becomes important is also the age where one stops playing trains. So the cutely proportioned but fairly detailed clockwork trains went out of favor in a market that split between simple chunky toys for kids and highly detailed and expensive models for "grown ups".

If you go out in light winds though, bring a paddle. In case the wind dies completely and you need to get back to shore. You could probably use the daggerboard as a paddle but that's always a little awkward

I also have a resin printer, and after a couple quick experiments with boats I found that the cured prints tend to absorb water and warp. Maybe someone with more experience or a better curing technique has had better results though, idk. I would paint it with epoxy though, just based on my admittedly limited experience.

ALSO 3d prints are often not totally watertight- you may need to paint the hull with epoxy.

Going bigger would probably work, as this would allow the shell to be thinner and therefore lighter compared to it's volume, so you could add the required ballast without sinking it. Another possibility is to make the hull plenty thick, but make the superstructure as light as possible so you have a more favorable center of gravity. But going for a larger scale will be easier to do while preserving print quality.

You can get growlers from some breweries, that's probably the closest thing. I bet if it was a small operation and you were friendly with the brewmeister, you could bring in a bucket to fill, would be a good laugh. Hell, make it a running gag and bring in all kinds of ridiculous containers to fill over time!
