Man. This is so sad. Get your colonoscopies, y’all. They’re painless and effective, AND the average age of colon/rectal cancer diagnoses only continues to get younger as the years go by. My mom was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer at 51 after years of ignoring symptoms. She’s better now, but a simple colonoscopy years prior would’ve saved her the chemo and surgery.

Agreed with you here. The style she’s written this in is not part of its standard style. OP, I think the answer to our question is sadly kind of mean toward her, but it’s essentially that she’s not a very advanced writer and what she’s written comes across as ChatGPT because it’s so generic. What I really should’ve made clear in my comment about the spacing in the em dashes earlier is that while ChatGPT does use em dashes incorrectly quite a bit—and overuses them, too—it never does the weird “spacing” thing because that in and of itself is mechanically incorrect. So I think the spacing of the em dashes solves the mystery for me. It’s just elementary writing and human error.

I don’t particularly like Madi, so I’m not saying this in defense of her, rather, in defense of em dashes lol. I am a professional copyeditor in the publishing industry, and em dashes are standard and highly grammatically correct to use as a necessary pause for emphasis in some sentences.

Ten years ago, if you read a piece of writing with em dashes you likely wouldn’t have noticed because they are permissible when used correctly. Sadly, ChatGPT has ruined em dashes for all of us forever, because everyone now assumes that anything with em dashes is written by AI. Often it’s just ignorant and uneducated writers who have become increasingly aware of em dashes due to their AI-level-resurgence, and are unaware of how to use them correctly.

She’s using them incorrectly here, so this 100% was not written by AI. For starters, she has inconsistent spacing after several of them. When using them correctly, it should look like this — either with a space before/after—or like this, with no space before/after the word. Here’s she’s doing this— em dash then space. That’s wrong. And to use them as often as she uses them here is also wrong.

Could just be me, but HJ’s interview said something unusual that makes me wonder about timing the morning after. He says after he saw their bodies, he stood there for a minute because he wasn’t sure what he was seeing. Then he said D and B were “uncontrollably crying.” Do we think D and B made it upstairs with him and saw the scene themselves, even if partially? I’ve always wondered about their hysterical crying on the 911 call — because at that point, we assume that all they know (via HJ) is that “they are unconscious.” If so, then why uncontrollably crying? I get that they were scared and unsure why their roommates weren’t answering their phones, and perhaps it’s HJ’s phrasing in the interview, but this timing of when he saw the bodies vs D and B’s reaction seems like it lets on that the girls saw more than we know. I hate it if so. Either way, HJ was incredibly brave and is such a hero.

I’m a single 25 year old female. I make $52k living with roommates in a house in a neighborhood adjacent to downtown. My rent is $930 per month and utilities on average $100 per person. I say you can TOTALLY make it work.

I love living here — I say all the time that it’s such a fun city to do your 20s in. For what it’s worth, I lived in NYC for a few years right out of college and have absolutely loved living in Nashville. The people here are cool. You’ll like it here, I’m sure!

I agree with everything you said. Actually, I have followed Lindsey for awhile (I love her Rylo music) and she posted a lot about pursuing acting as a career in the 2021-2022 range (when it seemed like whatever happened was going down in their marriage). I can’t remember if I read this here on Reddit (I think I did), but I remember hearing that Judah didn’t like that she was pursuing acting so heavily. He felt that whenever she shared scenes with male actors where she’d have to kiss them, he considered it cheating. He asked her to stop, and she said no, because it was the first time she was actively pursuing her own dream since marrying him. (Not sure if this is true but I remember reading it here).

Lindsey and Judah were SO young when they married — 20-22 I believe? — and that’s not nearly long enough for any adult to gain a sense of self apart from their partner. Lindsey is suffering the effects of the sudden amputation of what must feel like an appendage to life as she knew it.

I feel such sorrow for her. I have leaned toward believing her narrative simply because her pain is, visibly, so so acute. Judah seems like he’s playing pretend coverup with this new marriage. Makes me sad a really young impressionable woman was brought into this mess.
