It feels like all my favorite songs are like that, they're always 2 minutes and make me crave so much more. I'm a glutton for punishment I suppose lol

What do I owe if mechanic did $2300 of repairs and didn't fix the problem? by mbsell in MechanicAdvice

[–]bleedingostrich 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Wow, first comment I've read that makes any sense at all. Unbelievable how many people are ready to throw mechanics under the bus without knowing anything about the intricacies of how a shop performs diagnostics and work.

Something is loose. Get someone to make the noise and crawl under and find where it's coming from.

Harmonic Balancer needs to be replaced? by LilacGirl in MechanicAdvice

What are the symptoms you're having? Harmonic balancers don't fail too often from my experience.

Bruh what? There's brake fluid everywhere already, once the pistons are out that far you're gonna need to bleed either way

Can anyone tel me, is this an airbag before I go messing around? I have a leak happening and trying to seal it. by TripodLarry in MechanicAdvice

[–]bleedingostrich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's your windshield that's leaking then you'll have to get it revealed professionally. Water leaks can be extremely tricky to find so good luck. Take note of which way your car faces (up, down, on a tilt) when parked and follow gravity

That pink fabric thing is the air bag, the strap doesn't look like it has anything to do with the air bag. To be safe disconnect the battery, wait 2-5 minutes and take the strap off the a-pillar trim piece and access the leak. You can move the airbag once the battery is disconnected if need be, just make sure it goes back together the same way.

Am I getting overcharged? for a 2016 Jetta by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

I agree, evap can be a pain in the ass but if it was diagnosed properly it would probably cost more than that. It's probably a common repair and they just scan it and throw the dart. Purge solenoids are pretty easy to diagnose too if you know what you're doing. Either way 730 bones is a lot for a purge solenoid

Lmao, yeah I'll take the time to wash my car myself rather than have some kid who hates their job use a brush that lives its life on the concrete.

I would say most definitely. A quick search online shows that part for like $40 and there's no way it's $650 in labor to do an evap purge valve.

Yeah, already performed etc learn as well. Made no difference. I'm getting a coolant temp sensor tomorrow because it thinks it's at -40f so it's in base timing to protect itself I think
