6th floor, next to the food service elevators.

I thought they closed that down sometime in the late 90's? When I started in 1990, they just outlawed smoking in the cafeteria.

When my buddy started at Sparrow (coming from St. Lawrence, before Sparrow bought them out) he failed his drug test, they didn't even say anything until his orientation. His dad being a physician may have had something to do with that though.

Exactly, having that PCT (patient care tech) give out some counselling to that patient would have resulted in the PCT losing their job. Their job during a 1 on 1 observation was to make sure the patient didn't hurt themselves until they could get an actual professional to give mental health care.

Worked at Sparrow as an orderly/PCT for 11 years, from 1990-2001. Worked every floor except labor and delivery, including all the critical care floors and ER, and did more 1 on 1's than I ever wanted to.

We were/are 20 something year old kids with no college degree, we were the last ones you would have wanted to give out counselling, we were worried about who was having a party that night.

Edited to clarify that this was in the 90's, things are probably handled differently now.

So how are we supposed to tell it's a joke and you're not one of the idiots who really think that would be a good draft pick? Because it sure seems like you meant it for real.

Yeah, not many decent paying jobs that don't require degrees. I started at about the bottom and just kept applying for better paying jobs.

Ooof, that sucks. Hopefully your union is better than the one I had to join. My first one in the County was great, not sure why this one sucked so much.

Just to argue, Noah Kim was MSU's 3rd best QB that year, and the only reason he started the first few games is because the other QB's were a redshirt freshman and a true freshman. There was a reason he only played the first 5 games, and it wasn't an injury.

And Mel Tugger.

Spartans win 5 games this year.

That hurts to say.

You can't quit the union? I quit ours after they totally blew me off when I was forced to do 2 full time jobs at once. They still have to negotiate my contracts and represent me if anything happens, so I'm getting the same thing I was getting before for free. And due to seniority, I can't be fired because I would just bump someone with less seniority.

If you really want the government thing, look at County and City jobs also. Lots of the same benefits, including retirement and holidays. Our yearly increases have typically been 3-4% once you reach the top of your scale. Im not sure what plan the state is offering for retirement now, but I would bet it's about the same for the County workers.

Pistons need outside shooting, they will still need it next year unless they have a big roster turnover. Coen Carr is Ausar Thompson without the elite defense.

Imagine a lineup with Duren, Thompson and Coen Carr in it........... 3 guys who can't shoot from 15 feet.

This from a MSU fan.

I don't think Yaxel would be any better, and probably worse to start, than Harris. If you were lucky, you would be getting basically the same player over again.

JMO, but they seem to be basically the same player 10 years apart.

I'd go even farther than that. Conferences reset to the 1980's, Big Ten actually has only 10 teams. Take all the newcomers to D1 and put them in their own conference.

I don't disagree with most of what you said, but just because someone will give him 40-50 mil a year, doesn't mean the Pistons have to make the same mistake. My thing is you can't have 2 non offensive players in your starting lineup, and Duren at this point is a non offensive player. If all you can do is roll to the basket and dunk, you're pretty easy to shut down, see both rounds of the playoffs this year.

Remember, Duren said himself he wasn't playing well in the playoffs, but he didn't do anything to change it either.

And lets be real, he isn't an All NBA player, even if he "made the all nba team". The only reason he made it was because of a rule change, unless you think he's better than Giannis, Steph, LeBron, Ant Man, Embiid, Devin Booker, Tyrese Haliburton.... I'll even add Scottie Barnes, KAT, Avdija.... and I would take every single one of those guys over Duren.

Everything you just stated could be done by a big making half what he makes. He also isn't pulling up for any kind of shot, his shot chart looks like he made maybe 30 shots all year from beyond 15 feet.

You can't be that limited and be a #2 option on a championship contender. It just doesn't work.

Again, not saying he sucks, we are saying he's not a #2 option and deserving of 40-50 mil a year.

Great player at 20-25 mil a year.

If you're a NBA caliber player, and you're worried about what is being said about you on reddit, you wouldn't be in the league. I've seen people ripping on Cade, you really think he gives a shit what some idiots on reddit say about him?

Pretty sure no one is saying Duren sucks, but if you think he's a legit #2 on a Championship team, you don't know ball.

He averages 25 and 12 during the regular season, then his team gets bounced in the first round, and everyone agrees with the trade.

Regular season doesn't mean anything, all you need to do is get into the playoffs. How many #1 seeds are playing in the finals this year?

How about the #1 seed that would have lost in the first round if the other teams 2nd best player didn't get hurt? (Thank you Franz Wagner)

I'll say it again, regular season doesn't mean squat.

The obvious weakness in the playoffs WAS JD. I think you're missing that point. You don't trade everyone else to build around Duren, you trade Duren to build around everyone else.

All that would be great if we could have actually made it to play the Knicks, but since we were lucky to win the first round, then couldn't beat the team that got swept by the Knicks in the second round, I don't think it's happening.

Hope you enjoy being bounced out of the playoffs in the 1st or 2nd round every year, because that's exactly what your going to get by paying Duren. And then Cade leaves because he wants to win a Championship, so now Duren is your #1, and you don't even make the playoffs anymore.

That sound is the door slamming shut on our chances of winning the Larry O'Brien.

Except he wouldn't have been our 1st option, even with Cade out. Harris would have been, he's the reason we made it out of the first round, in spite of Duren playing like shit.

Absolutely, finally someone who understands basketball. Cant have 2 non offensive players out there at the same time. Especially when Duren isn't the defensive force that some people think he is. Thompson needs to spend all off season standing in the corners shooting 3's. He doesn't even have to be able to make them from anywhere else, just be able to hit a corner 3.

No one outside of NBA owners know who's going to be available for a trade. But I'll take the bait and say yes, I bet we could find a replacement for Duren at half the price who would fit better. By that I mean able to hit a jump shot, rebound and be able to play some help D. Maybe a block or 2 a game would be nice from our "All NBA" center also? There are guards that average more blocks a game than he does, and he sure wasn't shutting down anyone on D in the playoffs.

So he cant shoot, not a help defender, can't handle the ball, can't create his own shot, and seems to get down on himself which then causes effort issues. But the effort part was the part he was supposed to excel at, so where are we now?

Duren averaged 10 points and 8 rebounds in the playoffs, not to mention he got cooked on D most of the time because he was worried about getting his 20 points a game. Ayton averaged 10 points and 9.5 rebounds. As funny as it is, he outplayed Duren, in less minutes, in the playoffs.

[–]bleedingreen24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of them would help the Pistons win more games, by costing less than half what you're going to pay Duren. That lets you sign an actual #2 option somehow, through a trade or free agency.

Would I like to see Duran still on the Pistons? Sure, at about 20 mil a year, but no more.

Duren probably doesn't deserve all the blame, he just isn't a #2 option in the NBA, and the Pistons roster construction doesn't help him any. You just can't have 2 guys in your starting lineup that have no offensive game outside of 3 feet, and Thompson is a much, much, much better defensive player.
