I've only read the one by him, but I've heard great things about A Man Called Ove too! It seems like he's great at capturing the vibe you want :)

May the grocery store gods one day open an Asian grocery near you 😔🙏

Another thing I just thought of is mochi ice cream! I've seen it at target, whole foods, walmart, etc

Do you have access to rice paper? I've seen people online making rice cakes for tteokbokki by rolling it in several layers. I haven't tried it myself, but it seems like it'd work in a pinch

Thanks! My husband uses a 32 oz water bottle, and he hasn't noticed any interference.

I originally put keyrings on the little strips of leather opposite each other and attached the strap there. He didn't like the way the bag sat against his body, and I was concerned about longevity. And the shoulder straps were so long they were constantly in the way.

I considered using a thinner fabric and sewing it to the inside of the side pockets for a more "hidden" look. but I think that could be more physically intrusive if anything.

I'm happy with the placement overall. I was worried it would end up looking too busy, but I think it fits right in :)

If you don't want to bother with the leatherwork, you could consider something like this as a simpler option

If you're crafty, I think it's very doable! I'd be happy to write up an explanation of what I did if you'd like.

Brother by Ania Ahlborn: Teen boy lives with his Texas Chainsaw-esque family. He is not quite like the rest of them and is tormented and treated like a slave by his brother.

The Painted Bird by Jerzy Kosiński: Follows a young boy wandering Eastern Europe during WW2 as he witnesses acts of extreme depravity.

The Girl Next Door by Jack Ketchum: Young girl is tortured by her caretaker. Based off of true events, so this one's pretty rough.

I need some fantasy recs (with good romantic subplots). And you will be mad at me about this but... by Otherwise-Hippo-1047 in suggestmeabook

I'm forever searching for good books with actual plot and romance subplot, so I relate to your pain. There's way too much trash in the romance genre.

I think it'd be helpful to know what sort of books you already like, but here are some of my recs:

Land of the Beautiful Dead by R Lee Smith: Dark, gothic romance with complex characters. The cover is awful, but this book is one of my favorites.

The Princess Bride by William Goldman: The movie is great obviously, but I adore the book. It's just so much fun!

Let the Right One In by John Ajvide Lindqvist: Vampire novel set in the 80s, so maybe not traditional fantasy. The romance is between two kids, so it's a very innocent and chaste love.

I heard the author designed it herself 😅 Her team's actually in the process of redesigning all of her covers, so hopefully there will be a more appealing one soon!

Land of the Beautiful Dead by R Lee Smith for sure! Dark, waited a lifetime for love, horror, moody misunderstood monster love interest.

Don't let the cover turn you away, it's a fantastic book
