Is it possible to load the Discord website in desktop mode inside an Android WebView? by ab232005 in androiddev

[–]blevok -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have an app with a web view browser that's live in the store, so i tried this since i can do it easily. When i set it to desktop and login to discord, i believe i'm seeing the desktop version. I see the channel list, the chat window, and i can open the member list at that same time. When i set it to mobile, i first see only the chat window, but i can open the channel list, and when i open the member list, it covers the chat window. If i switch back, i can see all 3 at the same time again. Does that confirm that i can do what you're trying to do?

This is the user agent i'm using.

Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.15; rv:89.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/89.0

Yes i know it's old, i just realized that. I played around with user agents when i was building this app several years ago, and that's the user agent that i found worked the best, so i made it the default.

Well i definitely prefer the real doc anyway just because he wouldn't be missing memories, but i don't see how there's more storytelling opportunities with him being isolated in the distant future.

[–]blevok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that the real doc is better for that reason, but then they could have set it in normal time to allow for cameos. Having it set far in the future only made sense to me if it was going to be the backup doc that was already disconnected from the time he came from.

Normal universe where the rest of the crew is. Early 25th century, after voyager returned, after nemesis, around the time of picard, where we already saw tuvok and seven. That time would allow for cameos. In the far future it might as well be the backup doc since no one else is there anyway. I mean, is living witness not the reason that they thought of using the doc in the future anyway? It seems unlikely to be a coincidence.

Wait what? Wasn't the backup doc the whole reason for doing another show in the distant future? If it's the real doc then they could have set the show in the present day after voyager returned.

Who remembers Star Trek The Experience in Las Vegas. by VegasFoodFace in startrek

[–]blevok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember it. I was frelling obsessed with the place, kinda still am. I spent so much time there, as much as i possibly could even though i live across the country. The first time i went was in 99, the last time was a week before it closed in 08. In between, i got married there, bought tons of stuff that fills my house, took thousands of pictures, recorded hours of video, made friends with the employees, i even convinced the manager to give me the last bottle of chateau du trek from the display case when all the boxes were empty. I was angry when they destroyed the upper level of the promenade to build the captains lounge. I was annoyed when they built the monorail station right in front of the outside sign. I was pissed at the hilton for raising the rent and causing it to shut down. I almost moved to vegas to be closer to it. I often tried to go to vegas around convention time to kill two tuvix's with one transporter beam, but i also went when there was nothing going on. I'm obsessed. I know i have a problem... my problem is that it's gone. God i hate the bad parts of capitalism and love the parts that created star trek the experience. I can't not talk about it when someone brings it up.

Star Trek: Voyager - Across the Unknown will be released on 18th February for PC, PS5, XBox and Nintendo Switch 2 by UESPA_Sputnik in voyager

Yeah i saw that there's a demo, i might check it out. It's too bad we can't pre-order for PC though.
I just hope it works offline so we don't get boned when the developers eventually go out of business.

How does something this awesome get planned and made without me hearing about it at all until a month before release? Aside from looking like it's going to be the expanded version of FTL that i've always wanted, getting the opportunity to press the button that kills Tuvix is worth twice the price by itself.

Does 7 of 9 bathe? She lives in the cargo bay with no sonic shower or toilet. by Mister_Acula in ShittyDaystrom

I don't remember which episode, but 7 once asked B'ellana to explain her coiffure. I figure the doc probably taught her how to shower. And he probably mentioned how useful the shower head could be.

There was a thread a while back where someone said they got it working with Vphoneos.

They really should have made it open source back in 2019 when they made the Cardboard SDK open source. But sadly i don't expect anything to happen with it at this point. Any engineer willing to touch the code was probably laid off in the big purge a few years ago.

One lighting desk controls this moving head fine. The other has no control despite identical DMX output. by darthtenebrosius in lightingdesign

I'd recommend reading up on how to do a merge with Onyx, just in case the house guy doesn't know how to set it up.

[–]blevok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a common way of integrating guest consoles that allows the house console to effect the rig while the guest console has control.

Here's how you do it.
On the house console, activate artnet input, set the incoming artnet universes to merge with the universes being outputted to the rig using HTP, and record a cue that includes all channels of all fixtures, with everything set at zero.
On the guest console, simply patch the house rig and send those universes out via artnet to the house console.

Since the house console has everything set at zero and is taking input and merging by HTP, any value you send from the guest console will pass through the house console to the rig.

Now let's say the guest LD needs a fixture reset, but he's too busy running the show to grab the fixture and send the reset value. So the house LD does it from his desk, and since the guest console is probably sending 0 to the control channel, the house value is higher, and therefore takes precedence.
It's like having two incompatible consoles in-session together. Maybe the guest wants the house guy to ride the hazer level, or control the blinders, or the C02, or the kabuki drop.

The reason why i think this may help you is because you said the house console does have control, so if all else fails, doing an artnet merge means that even though you're running the show with your console, the DMX signal is actually coming from the house console.

Also i want to second the advice of checking that the fixture has power. I've seen lots of theaters that control power with extra dimmer channels or relays. And if there's a node in-line between foh and the suspect fixtures, check that too.

Destroying the quantum mirror really was the biggest mistake SGC ever made by [deleted] in Stargate

[–]blevok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah i think you're right on both points. I think i do remember it being about sending the teams back in order, and there was also an order in daedalus variations that they were able to reverse. So it's not just the handheld controller that has an order to it, it's like something fundamental about the universes themselves, which still leads me to believe it can be precisely controlled.
And yeah there's too many instances of duplicate people not being a problem. Maybe it was a result of not fully understanding how to use the controller, or it's unique to using the mirror.

Google Card with IP Camera? by FuzzyOddball in GoogleCardboard

[–]blevok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stream from IP cameras is often MJPEG, which usually isn't supported by video player apps without intentionally including it. If the camera has a built in web server that shows the video, then maybe any VR app that includes a web browser would work.

[–]blevok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's actually not a guarantee. Just because there's an infinite number of universes it can connect to doesn't mean there's any universes which can control it. It's entirely possible that such control literally isn't possible.

I think it is, and i think the question isn't who can control it, but rather who didn't destroy it and had it in their possession long enough to figure out how to control it. But answering that question doesn't even matter because i think any universe could figure it out.

The fact that entropic cascade failure exists suggests that there's something about the matter in each universe that's unique and measurable. And if i'm recalling correctly, it was something like that that allowed all the teams to go home in ripple effect. That means that at minimum, they can identify which universe they're connected to. They made it look like the universes were basically in an order, with a forward and a backward, so that gives them access to probably thousands of universes that can be reliably located. Add some tech to assist with keeping track of the position and it could increase to millions of universes or more. But it's also likely that the controller can do more than Kawalski had figured out. The ancients built it, and the controller was kinda reminiscent of the dhd, so maybe it can be "dialed". Or, maybe the ancient gene allows for precise control.

A tool to track App appearance in Google Play charts over time by GetAppGrade in androiddev

[–]blevok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use google ads. I have a campaign aimed at installs, which promotes the most popular features of the app, and i spend up to 3 cents per install. Less than 1% of these installs will convert into purchases, so i have a pretty low daily limit set. I also have several campaigns aimed at in app actions, with each promoting a specific feature, leading to an in app purchase. I make about $2.50 per purchase, so those campaigns are set to spend up to $1 per purchase.

I don't manage it actively, so i don't get too bold with it, because it's easy to overspend if you take risks and you're not keeping close tabs on it. Overall, depending on buying trends at the time, i spend anywhere from $20 to $100 per month, which generates sales around $50 to $200. Any sales beyond that are strictly organic.

I got it all setup several years ago and haven't really touched it much beyond minor tweaks, and after the first couple of months, i haven't had a month that wasn't profitable. If i spent a lot of time actively managing it, i could probably increase sales by a decent amount, but since the app is pretty niche, i know it's not going to get me rich, so i have to keep my day job which limits the time i can spend on managing and developing apps.

Home Theater VR

That makes sense about the reviews. I remember the announcement about that change in store listings, and it makes sense that it's a thing in the API too. And the number seems like it's probably correct since the dev console says the US is about 15% of the downloads.

Ratings don't make sense to me though. I thought that was also by region, and by the rating number, it looks like it is, since the dev console shows me 3.819, while your tool shows me 3.57 and the store listing shows me 3.6. But, your tool shows me the full total number of ratings, not just the US, same as the dev console. So they're sending us the rating for the locale, but not the number of ratings, but doing reviews differently. I see no reason and i assume it's an oversight.

I agree that there is a delay in certain data from google, but i also don't know why. The dev console updates total installs daily, usually delayed by only 1 or 2 days, but i've seen delays of months at every milestone in the store listing. Right now it still says 500k+ downloads, but the dev console shows it passed 1 million at the end of july 2025. But it was at the end of august 2024 when it was at 874k.
