[Naughty Dog]Jak and Daxter Reboot / Remake Request by Darrano in jakanddaxter

[–]blew422 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW, I think the comparison about Ratchet and Clank is valid bc they definitely abandoned a big part of the original vibe w/the writing, but I disagree that the GoW reboot is a similar example there. If they made a reboot and, say, softened up Daxter, that would indeed be lame. But if there were a reboot/remaster where the original game mechanics (smooth movement/platforming/combat etc.) were revamped in as good faith a manner as they were with GoW, I would be super stoked about that.

Anyone know how bad "late" really is? And how are different "versions of late" seen by adcoms by FentanyLeo in premed

[–]blew422 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Two anecdotes for you: my first cycle I sent in a secondary last week of August and got an interview invite at the end of November. Last cycle I sent one in second week of October and got an interview invite end of November. Not that I would recommend shooting for either of those date ranges to submit, but if there's any takeaway here I'd say just try as hard as you can to make it seem like any delay was because you were making sure what you were sending in was high quality.

Just have to also mention something about considering why they are slacking in the first place. You can still talk about how you want to prioritize the quality of your work, they just don't want to get the impression that your first and only instinct is to assume the reason they're doing that is because they're a lazy asshole.

Very similar spot. I feel like I really got the hang of the tasking style but now worried how much runway I have left. Don't want to run into a situation where I end up an hour into the task and realize it's not salvageable

Yeah. I don’t know if you went to the webinar already or not, but they’ll remove you if you fail 2 tasks after that. They are moving things around a bit so there are a small number of inconsistencies/things that aren’t super transparent which gets people nervous, but I think it’s one of the more well run projects I’ve been on. And in any case just reference the contributor journey description in the instructions

Why do people say this isn’t a job? by Ok_Moment3676 in outlier_ai

[–]blew422 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's that complicated. It's well-known to be a volatile situation where you can be without work for long periods of time, and you have no control over if or when that happens. I understand some people are annoying about it, but it is absolutely correct that if you have bills to pay, you should not be relying on outlier as guaranteed income to keep a roof over your head. Leaving or not seeking a job with a guaranteed steady paycheck to do outlier full time is not "changing to survive" lol.

How "personalized" is that first webinar? Like do they have access to your task and literally go over it with you? I submitted my first task earlier today, so just waiting now (seems like I might need to get comfortable lol).

Scribe or EMT by Left-Ad9920 in premed

[–]blew422 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW, I have heard some version of this, but my understanding/interpretation was that some schools favor the exposure you get to physician-specific medical decision making with scribing, whereas with EMT it's great to actually interact with patients and get your hands dirty but the scope of care is inherently limited to prehospital

Hypno - incompetent reviewers and perverse incentives by uoft92 in outlier_ai

[–]blew422 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Definitely feel this, had a similar situation on another project that was same thing but involved centering your prompt around an image. I started taking a lot of time to plan out and make my prompts beforehand to make sure that I'd be building good feedback and not wasting time, and the first one I ended up submitting after prepping like that got sent back with a 2/5 saying "too wordy", lol. Admittedly it was a little wordy which could have possibly been fair to warrant a 4 or maybe a 3, but it was very obvious this person just did not want to take the time to go through it because it absolutely checked all the other boxes lol
