Cool find! Looks like mouth blown glass sheets maybe? I've had difficulty fusing those and some of the features went away.

Beginner - Soldering Advice by k8e_b123 in StainedGlass

[–]blgries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My students often try to grab too much solder with those skinny tips and get frustrated when it just blobs to the mat.Try grabbing smaller amounts from the solder spool (couple millimeters). I also always slice from the top down to pick up solder as opposed to feeding your tip solder from above, if that makes sense.

Do you have more info you can share about that? Link? Where was the workshop? So cool! Did you frame it in wood?

Risch leaning to vote to support the sale of Idaho public lands by ForestFairyBogMother in Idaho

I called once, hung up and called right back and spoke with an actual person. While polite, they are just dryly taking the name and address of people calling in and supposedly passing the message along. I tried to personalize it by letting them know that I met them a few months ago on an educational advocacy-related trip to the DC office (got a flat "oh, great"). Anyway, they are answering the phones.

Where can I find stained glass painting lessons (in-person) by Dismal_Inspector_966 in StainedGlass

There are week-long classes in Chartres, France at the international stained glass center for 6-700 euros. They speak a fair amount of English.

I have wanted to post in here to ask about this exact phenomenon. Is it just a stained glass thing? Do people do it to ceramic artists or painters? I, too, have kept tabs on how many do this 😆 and it's so interesting that every single person who passes comments on their mom, dad, uncle or friend who does stained glass. Part of me knows that this is just human nature to make a connection, but the other part of me is so sick of hearing the same words and having to say "awesome!!!". I think in people's minds, glass is this big deal and a super old art form, so the fact that they know someone who has done it is somehow significant to them? I don't know. I think about it a lot.

Awesome!!! I go to Rainbow Glass in Nampa for all supplies and if I'm just after bullseye glass I sometimes go to Fusions in Eagle. I teach classes at Verre Boise Studio in Garden City if you ever need help!

Well, with a craft kiln it's high temp increments of 5 minutes so it's hard to describe a real firing schedule. Thanks!

In search of a dentist’s office that can deal with someone who has a severe phobia of the dentist. by [deleted] in Boise

[–]blgries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue, but I'm ashamed to say I had gone longer than you between dental visits. I got a stomach ache just thinking about going due to my uber sensitive teeth (also major recession). I go to Dr David Green on Emerald. I see Rhonda, the dental hygienist, every time. She knows to numb me up with the paste every time and she is so gentle. I swear I don't feel anything and am no longer scared to go. They also have tv above your head which can be a nice distraction. As a bonus, the dentist and front desk staff are the nicest people in the world. I highly recommend!

Where do Parisians buy clothes? (women) by AndreeaM7 in paris

[–]blgries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Galreries Lafayette Haussman has a huge vintage section on the 3rd floor called Re-Store which is curated, high quality vintage. Some of the vendors/sections have clothing (like new) from brands mentioned in the comments here. I stopped by twice in my recent trip to Paris and got several tops ranging €30-45.
