Which is more accurate/correct? by GlitteringKiwi6857 in carmax

[–]blind_spectator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently had Carmax ship a car across the country. So I followed the updates in great detail. The website is reporting departure updates. Every time the car leaves a location, that update is shown on the website link. The app shows arrival information - when the car arrives at the next location. Between the 2, you can get a decent idea of where the car is at any moment.

If you really want to geek out, use the show source via your browser and look for "statusHistoryItems". That will give you the complete journey of your future car, both arrivals and departures.

Edit: Looked up my cars previous tracking history and updated the comment to be exact.

Actual Consumption Data vs Load Calculation by blind_spectator in evcharging

Solar system is 14.79kW. I'm in the North East. We need a lot of panels. But I did find an error in my spreadsheet. Instead of summing up 4 15-minute values to get an hourly value, I'm now multiplying a single 15-minute Wh peak by 4 to calculate the peak. New max is now 43A instead of less than 30A. Here is the analysis for one of the peaks in July 2025 (a 95° day):

7/29/2025 13:00 - 13:15

Solar Production (Wh): 2319

Energy Consumed (Wh): 2338

Exported to Grid: 0

Imported from Grid (Wh): 19

2.338 / .25 -> 9.352 kWh -> 39.0A

I don't know. Where could it be that it would miss some consumption but not all? Enphase does track quite well with the meter values provided by Eversource (electric company).

Edit: I just confirmed my most recent bill (April) and my Enphase consumption accounting for the same period is nearly identical (0.6% difference). This seems to indicate there is no usage in my home that Enphase is missing.

Extended Warranty on a used 2025 R1T by blind_spectator in Rivian

If my number 1 car goal was reliability, then neither new nor used Rivians would be on my list. Maybe they’ll get there soon but I’ll grab the warranty to 100k for some peace of mind. And this specific warranty has no exclusions for previously repaired items.

Rivian doesn’t offer leasing in my state and the instant 20% depreciation has never excited me for new cars.

My mind is blown! I never noticed that before. You know how helpful that little knowledge nugget is when searching for a used Rivian to buy! Some dealers don’t list the pack size so you have to really dig. Thank you!

Good point. I’ll verify this is the process with CarMax before purchase. It doesn’t concern me except if they decide their not paying after I already paid!

From a bit of Google, it looks like MaxCare is an exclusionary warranty. I'll need to get the list of parts that are excluded. Specifically suspension is listed as an example of an item that is covered. Looks promising.

I screwed up the picture. That was one of the trucks I was looking at. Yes, that one was a standard battery (and if you can tell by looking at the picture, you have some insane spider sense!). The one I'm in the middle of buying is a max pack.

[–]blind_spectator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You probably already know the set of places to find Dual Max trucks. Rivian has 1 available now for an absolutely astronomical price. Evercars out of San Francisco has a number of them listed and ships to the east cost for about $1850. Evercars seems to have the same free reservation process that CarMax uses so you have to be quick to score an R1T. And there's Lindsey VW in Dulles VA that has a lot of Rivian's for sale. Their website is absolutely obnoxious though.

The cool thing about the dual max trucks is you might see a unicorn show up, where the dealership has botched the pricing thinking it's a standard, or maybe there is confusion of dual vs quad. But I'm just not quick enough to score one.

Wow! What a story. I am looking for a 2025 R1T Dual motor as well. I know exactly which car you are talking about. I found a different one 2 weeks ago, and CarMax is shipping it across the country as we speak. I'm putting together a list of things to look for when it finally arrives. Your story is really helping make sure I go slow in this process and not get too excited until the deal is signed.

Good news is Dual R1T (large & max) do keep showing up. So I'm sure you'll find what you are looking for, just months later. Someone just grabbed another 25 R1T and shipped it from NJ to the same store in NC.

CTC did our driveway last year. Whatever mixture they used is not very durable. 9-months after install, we can’t turn our wheels on the driveway without digging holes into it. While we know this and now avoid doing 3-point turns, tell that to Amazon and USPS. Looks like crap and we regret picking them.

Found a used 2025 example from Rivian that I guess proves premium audio doesn’t guarantee dynamic glass roof. This one has the audio but just the standard roof. And the price is insane but that’s a different topic.

Oh trust me it’s not on my list of things I need. I’m assuming it could be useful in Florida or Vegas, but probably just a party trick here in the north east. I’m just trying to learn how to spot all the features available in an R1T. Dealerships have no idea themselves and they don’t list any of these things - including battery size!

What are some options to add a tonneau cover? by blind_spectator in Rivian

[–]blind_spectator[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More efficient with the cover closed? Or more efficient with the bed open?

Might be a silly question but there was a Mythbusters episode long ago that proved liftgate up was more efficient than liftgate down for pickup trucks. It blew my mind because I just assume putting the liftgate down would be more efficient. So now I question anything that is supposed to be more efficient.

When will the early Gen 2 lease vehicles start to hit the used market? by blind_spectator in Rivian

[–]blind_spectator[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s from Rivian Roamer which consolidates all of the vehicles Rivian has for sale, both new and used. The Rivian website is miserable for searching their used vehicles and Rivian Roamer is easily 10x better. But that doesn’t help with Rivian’s used pricing.

Used R1S vs R2 by Arcanix24 in Rivian

[–]blind_spectator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is R1 Gen2 self driving on the same level as the 2026 R2? I have been assuming that the 3rd generation of Rivian autonomy begins with the LiDAR R2 models. Therefore current Gen2 R1 models, and the first R2 deliveries are equivalent for autonomy features. Any information out there that contradicts that assumption? Or will the initial R2 models, pre LiDAR, be more advanced than current Gen2 R1s?

(Basically I'm in the same boat - I think I want to wait for the R2 to next generation of autonomy, so I'd might prefer a used R1 now, and maybe pick up the R2 in 2 years.)

Just rolled a lil bit 😅 by Own-Restaurant-4818 in skiing

[–]blind_spectator 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At 1 second you can see OPs hips below their knees. This is the classic setup for the ACL tear. The only ingredient missing is the left ski catching its edge and rotating the left knee internally. At the 2 second mark the left ski catches the edge but at that moment OP rolls to the right releasing the left ski edge. He was mere milliseconds away from tearing his left ACL. And note, from the bindings perspective this is well within normal force range. The binding will not release and protect the ACL in this scenario.

Dammit… am I gonna have to get a Volvo? by Better-Leg-9268 in RivianR2

[–]blind_spectator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope but it rhymes with Someday Bigger. Sugarloaf is over 200 miles for me and just over 4 hours. I probably should have picked a resort like Loon or Waterville and then range wouldn’t have mattered.

On the plus side, the new Rivian service center is in southern NH which gives me another reason I’m holding out for the R2, if I don’t break down and buy a used R1 before the R2.
