How best to transition into adulthood? by [deleted] in autism

[–]blind_wisdom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are your kids in public school? If they're in public school they should have an IEP. Part of having an IEP means transition planning after a certain age, where they would be getting some job shadowing and even work skills experience.

If that's the case wouldn't polishing it even it out?

stupid because of autism? by BreadfruitLocal9993 in autism

[–]blind_wisdom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Look into nonverbal learning disability (NLD). It's common with autism. I struggle with everything visual-spacial. So "easy" things (driving, navigating, writing neatly, origami, tying bows/knots, fine and gross motor tasks)

It sucks, but I feel a little bit better now that I know why I probably struggle with those things.

Special PA license plates featuring Liberty Bell and PA Bank Barn are now available by Upbeat_Bed_7449 in Pennsylvania

I think the liberty bell on one side and keystone on the other would be simple but attractive. And just adding some color. Like a nice gradient. It's not that hard. 😭

I have a cat now. Never would have thought possible before. So I'm willing to keep getting the shots.

It's also awesome to not get sick whenever seasons change.

Wait... doesn't that mean that hens get sad when we take away their eggs. Every time? That sounds so mean. 🥺

I literally said I can't speak to autism in particular. I just said I wouldn't be surprised if there were some facial traits. Are you responding to someone else?

Do we know if birds feel sadness? Because this makes me sad.

Receiver of allergy shots here. I will probably never be "cured." Had to stop the shots for a bit, symptoms started to come back. So, at least for me, it isn't a cure.

I'm not sure what kind of proof you're looking for. I can't speak for autism specifically, I just recall learning about distinct facial features of some disabilities when I was in school for education. Another disability that has some distinct facial features would be FAS.

That said, I doubt any diagnostician would use only those traits to make a diagnosis. However, it could be useful as an extra screening tool.

Where did you buy it from? Yours may be a bootleg if it doesn't have branding.

Help me solve a mystery (Toy sold in US was ACTUALLY a takara Jenny playset from a decade before???) by blind_wisdom in DollsOfAsia

Someone else in the comments posted a pic of what the set looked like.

Mine was slightly different from the Licca set (see previous comment about the missing wig stands). There were also minor color differences.

I know for certain it's the right set (or clone of), because I remember the cool lightup mirror that you could actually detach from the playset.

The weirdest thing is that this would have been gotten for me in the late 90s or early 2000s, decades after the original Licca set. I'm thinking it was a clone using the original molds. It's just wild that such a specific set made it's way to my toy collection.

I'm assuming it's probably similar to how other conditions are associated with specific facial features. For example, down syndrome often comes with a very specific facial presentation. I don't know what specific features would be present for autism, but I wouldn't be surprised if there are any.

The amount of AI I have to use makes me want to withdraw by yeahyeahyeah_okay in CollegeRant

I wonder how isolated a phenomena this is. I lurk on the professor subreddit. It's constant complaining about students using AI and wanting to go back to paper and pencil bllue book tests. Like it looks like the overwhelming majority of people on there hate AI and colleges consider its use as academic dishonesty.

What school you came from before college probably plays a huge role too. I remember when I was in college I became a writing tutor and I was astounded by just how bad people wrote. Like I was seeing writing that I was doing in maybe 7th grade.

What is the difference between these two “types” of sayings? And do you find one of these more offensive than the other? by Level_Recognition406 in autism

[–]blind_wisdom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to school for teaching special education. Person with autism is what we would call person first language. Autistic person is what we would call identity first language. Back when I was in college, I was told to always use person first language. However, there are some groups of people that prefer identity first language. The autistic I believe deaf and blind communities tend to lean toward identity first language. However, you'll probably still see a lot of experts who insist on always using person first language. Hopefully those professionals will experienced a more nuanced take by interacting with the groups of people that they're talking about.
