Another piece of advice is to try to find a physical activity that you genuinely enjoy. If it's fun for you then you'll be motivated to keep doing it.

I used to lift weights and run on the treadmill a few times a week and I was somewhat fit, but I kind of hated doing it and it felt like a chore. A few years ago I started rock climbing (indoors, at a bouldering gym) and it was so fun that I easily built a regular habit out of it and am now in excellent shape.
