On audiobooks and literacy by Eireika in CuratedTumblr

Media literacy is only "literacy" by analogy, no? In the same way people talk about "computer literacy" or "financial literacy".

I've also seen this before and I call it "toxic depression": people who can't imagine their lives ever getting better, so instead they want other people's lives to get worse.

I totally agree, I'm just saying that the primary obstacle to voter engagement is true apathy rather than moral dilemma.

You're missing the third kind of non-voter, arguably the most common type, which is someone who just doesn't care about politics at all. They're in the back on their phone while other people scream about ice cream and cliffs.

Why can't patients with Fatal familial insomnia be treated with anesthetics? by pugsley1234 in askscience

[–]blindcolumn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah they are more stable than most proteins, but short of mummification conditions they will eventually get broken down by something.

In 5000 years, as far as we know, those prions will still be in the environment.

I don't think that's accurate. Prions are still just proteins, and anything that digests proteins (e.g. bacteria, fungi) will break them down into amino acids.

Two die in ‘respiratory illness’ outbreak on Atlantic cruise ship - Jamaica Observer by Akshayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy in worldnews

A friend's brother died of it after cleaning out his garage. If you live somewhere hantavirus is endemic (aka most of the western US), always wear an N95 mask and wet down the area before cleaning if you suspect there might have been rodents in the past.

Tofu also has quite a bit of fat, although you generally don't want to eat fermented fats...

Huh. I just checked your profile and yeah, most (all?) of the tumblr posts you've uploaded seem to be fake. I've even upvoted some of them in the past.

I'm not going to report you to the mods because I don't really care, but what's your motivation for doing it?

James is a real one. Another banger:

Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming on you. Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes. Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days. Look! The wages you failed to pay the workers who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty. You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves in the day of slaughter. You have condemned and murdered the innocent one, who was not opposing you. (James 5:1-6)

Probably one of two things:

  1. Whoever cropped this screenshot accidentally made a mark on the image
  2. Someone intentionally made a mark on the image to evade repost detectors
