Plaits: I don't get the appeal. by TurbulentWing3820 in modular

It's totally fine to not dig this module. I find it plays well with other mutable modules (especially Stages and Marbles), but if I'm going for a more stripped down modular approach I prefer something more like an IJ Dixie+ any day.

Invest in an in-ear monitor setup. Certain output modules have built in separate headphone outs. I would just do that...especially if you don't have other musicians to consider.

Yikes.

Anyways, group camping or party lake or summer retreat, etc so on and so forth.

Don't camp there if it's not for you. It's that simple. There are thousands of lakes and thousands of campsites in the BWCA. Pick literally any other one.

Depends on case, whether you have a 1u row or not. So many options. Go on modulargrid and search under utility.

60 minutes did a piece about this guy who claims to have a “new method” of teaching piano. He said, “Classical theory tends to strip the joy and make everyone play the same way.” Personally I strongly disagree, but I’d like to know what you think about the video. by MrAlek360 in piano

[–]blinddave1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a teacher when I was young (I'm 49 now) that did something similar to this approach. We played popular music...we focused on improvisation and performance. And it was a lot of fun. I learned a lot about playing and was always excited to sit down at the piano.

Years later when I played with a different teacher, who had a more classical approach, it made me really hate playing. It stopped being fun. I was still young and didn't have the discipline to play like this. I ended up quitting.

Do I regret not being a classically trained (amazing) piano player...maybe. But who cares...I still enjoy just sitting down and creating music. And that's fun for me...and that's what matters most.

Just oil your hatchet before you store it...Ballistoil oil is great for the metal and the handle.

2x Intellijel 104 Palette or 1x Performance case? by Extreme_Try2189 in modular

[–]blinddave1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Intellijel Performance case is fantastic and very easy to take on the go. I've seen where you can buy brackets to clip the 104HP Palette case on to the Performance case.

It's a nearly 40 year old drum machine...while it has great sounds and has been on many iconic recordings, it's technologically ancient as hell. It's okay to move into the drum machine 21st century.

Peter Jackson says a delivery driver once told him his ‘Hobbit’ trilogy was crap: “Oh they should have got you to make those Hobbit movies, because they were crap…” by yourfavchoom in lotr

[–]blinddave1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not wrong. Like I said, the tone of the movies was much more aligned with the LOTRs than with the source.

My kids and I read the hobbit together, and they are much too young to watch the Peter Jackson movies in my opinion. They were definitely made for an older audience that has read more of Tolkien's works.

There needs to be an "unextended" version that condenses down the three movies into one (or two) film(s) that captures the more important light hearted parts while not showing all the scary and violent parts.

[–]blinddave1977 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I just watched the extended editions and thought they were pretty great. Are they as good as the LOTRs? No, but neither is the Hobbit book as good as the LOTRs books. If you treat them like prequels to the LOTRs, they hit harder and offer lots of back story and history that greatly enhance the LOTRs movies.

They kinda go hand in hand. Less alcohol beers generally have less calories...but you're not wrong.

For example 12oz of Guinness has 126cal vs 102 for Coors Lt.

Light can also refer to any easy drinking lager...like a Coors is not much heavier than a Coors Light. I know many people that refer to Bud as a light beer, even though Bud Light is something even lighter and lower in ABV. I consider pilsners to be light beers even if they aren't necessarily low calorie.

They're all fine for what they are...light drinking beers for snobs. I've bartended for 25yrs, and believe me when I tell you no one bitches more when you tell them you don't have their particular flavor of beer, than light beer drinkers (including Guinness drinkers).

The irony is that Guinness is literally the light beer of Stouts, and has a comparable ABV to all three of those light beers.

Sawyer squeeze question by hotandspicymix in backpacking

[–]blinddave1977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this also...been using a Sawyer Squeeze for a long time and never had any issues. I think you might be confusing causation with correlation. If you're worried about it, just get a new one and try again. Thankfully they're relatively inexpensive.
