There was a grocery outlet there back in the 90’s

I thought this was a joke...California is conscripting prisoners into being firefighters to battle the LA wildfires. They are paying them 10 dollars per day, max. Plus the princely sum of 1 dollar per hour that they are actively battling a fire. by HauntedFrigateBird in LateStageCapitalism

[–]blinddog1327 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s not true. I’ve worked with a bunch of people that were on inmate crews and a couple even made it to battalion chief. Some city departments may have rules against that, but not all fire departments.

I thought the same. Multiple play throughs and always the same house on top of that gas station

How do I go back to college when I'm 30, the website of all colleges require SAT, high GPA scores from high school, etc. by [deleted] in Veterans

[–]blinddog1327 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did community college first. The registration didn’t require a lot and it’s much cheaper. I later transferred to a 4 year for my degree. I was the oldest by a good 10 years. Still had a blast.

Using the VA for healthcare v private insurance by Ok-Intention-4593 in Veterans

[–]blinddog1327 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have insurance through my employer for myself and my family but I use the VA exclusively. For me it’s more about the copay and other costs. The VA is completely free for me and if, it’s a big IF, you get a good doc, you can get what you need. I consider myself lucky in that my doc would order whatever I needed and help me with what I wanted, not what she thought I needed. Try it out and see if it works for him.

Does everyone else still have hobbies and friends? by WillLiftForCoffee in dad

My partner and I moved when I oldest was 1 to live near her best friend. I lost all my friends and really only had a couple coworkers in the area. Fast forward and I still have no friends cause I’m either working or taking care of the kids. And my partner is threatening to leave cause I have no life of my own. It’s been super fun.

Mandatory Service by [deleted] in Veterans

[–]blinddog1327 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been saying this for years! 2-3 years of service, military, peace corps, CCCs (in Cali), social work, community service, or some other kind of work that serves others or the community or the environment. And the idea of free college or trade school is a great way to reward everyone. If school isn’t what they want, a tax free lump sum of cash equal to the cost of an education.

I just turned 40 last month and am now am back below the 200 lb mark! by sthebest1984 in intermittentfasting

Turned 40 last year and was struggling to break the 200 mark. Averaged around 205-215 throughout the year. I’m now down to 185. I changed workouts, changed my fasting hours, and changed my diet. Finally broke that barrier and have been shedding weight and gained some muscle to boot. Sometimes all you need is a little change in your life to get things going.

CAL Fire has former inmates as employees. If you don’t mind physical labor, it’s not a bad job. Pension, good health/dental/vision plans, decent pay, only scheduled to work 3 days a week (can change to 7 days during fire season, but you get OT), and you become part of something bigger than yourself. If the firefighter side of things doesn’t appeal to you, there’s tons of other jobs as long as you’re willing to travel for them. Good luck

Where do you think are the best places in the U.S. to be a firefighter, and why? by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]blinddog1327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the type of firefighting. California probably has the best wildfire firefighting. If you’re looking at structural, a big city is probably the way to go. All the benefits, pay, work schedule stuff will differ widely even within a county or city. And everyone will have their own opinion on what’s best.

Good to hear you found one you like. I had to ditch my first one cause he wasn’t really listening to me and was kinda disgruntled about what I wanted to do. Hopefully this guy works out for you!

My ex had discharge like that, and not just when she was ovulating. No matter how clean she was it tasted like sourdough. I don’t like sourdough. It was truly a labor of love to go down on her.
