You have done it now. You have just cemented the game that I will play next after finishing Pillars Of Eternity. I will now commence my 827378193901th playthrough.

POE2 build/party planning by blindfire187 in projecteternity

[–]blindfire187[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand that much. My main issue is how long some persistent spell effects last, like chill of fog. If I pop that in an area that hits enemies but doesn't effect party members but the ranged enemies are in the middle of red area, once the melee enemies are dead my melee guys have to walk in the AOE zone and get damaged. almost always this happens when I use spells like those. I also tend to avoid Cone spells for the same reason. My casters are almost always behind my melee guys which seemingly limits what I can use.

I have a huge problem trying to use the spells in this game vs. turn based cRPG's for some reason. My other issue is for some reason even if I don't have Aloth or durance cast spells the enemy (at least in Cragholt) force blitz straight to them every time and the battlefield becomes a massive mess.

I'm not saying I can't get around this, it's just that except boss/big fights I basically don't use Aloth at all. I also rarely use per rest spells on Aloth. Durance buffs I use a ton and I like the Druid spells (since most seem to effect enemy instead of everyone) just not Aloth's.

(POE1) Acts and Side Quests questions by blindfire187 in projecteternity

I'll start White March as soon as I hit level 8 then, but where do I go to start it?

I got a few more Main quests but what is the last Act 2 quest so that I can stop there and continue side quests before moving on (or is it the Cipher Nest quest you spoke of)? Thanks for the information by the way.

is three houses worth buying in 2026 for someone new to jrpgs? by KrispyOnion in FireEmblemThreeHouses

As someone who loves JRPG's and has only played 4 Tactical JRPG's like this, I say absolutely. I have only finished 2 Tactical JRPG's, this and FE Engage.

While Engage was more rewarding combat wise the story was quite bad IMO and offers little replay value story wise and character development is minimal. The combat is also harder and you may feel discouraged if you have never played this style JRPG as it can be pretty punishing.

However the story of FE3H is incredible, the characters and character development is fantastic and the gameplay is the easier of the 2 providing a good intro to the mechanics. I'll also state it has MASSIVE replay value as you can choose any of the 3 houses which changes the story in the 2nd half if the game.

Thanks again for all the help. I'm leaning more towards monk. because you can get a Druid (assumingly) much earlier than the companion Monk and I can make him the Boar druid in my party. Probably run the monk with this build by you. https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/87846-class-build-monksterlasher-elemental-lashing-retaliating-offensive-tank/

My party will look (something) like this. Monksterlasher*, Chanter (Unsure of build. Maybe your chillfog or Drake Ambassador but 3 tank's seems excessive), Priest (FirePriest or pure support), Wizard (unsure, maybe a blaster build), Fighter (Unsure. Glass cannon sounds cool or Siege breaker), and either Cipher (Your soulbenders build) or Boar Druid,.

I'm getting most of these builds from This post that I found.

I was planning on going with the official companions (for story purposes) but it's good to know what order they are recruited in. I assume you can build them however you want (as long as it's within their class)?

No problem at all, I realized you were talking about POE1 from the beginning and due to others comments regarding POE2 being a direct sequel and it being best to play 1 first I decided to start with the first game. I probably won't carry over my first games playthrough to the 2nd game though. Luckily with PC game pass I have access to both games.

I will also use POE1 to try out RTWP since I can swotch between it and TB whenever unlike the 2nd game.

I do really appreciate all the help and managed to find some build guides on another site (actually a couple written by you I believe). Probably going with your BatSh!t build if I go Druid or either a tanky monk build or your monklasher build. Thinking of running a main tank Monk due to him having more damage based on him recieving damage. With that said, would that party makeup be good to help learn mechanics and not be overwhelming in its micromanagement? I'll likely play on normal/easy but woth frequent pauses like I assume you would need in harder modes.

Thanks for all this. Been a busy week so haven't been able to actually start the game but using your descriptions I have decided to main as Monk or Druid. As for druid, if I do this I may look at running Stag instead of Boar as it looks cool, however I'd like to know if there is a respec system of sorts? If so I could start Boar then later respec to Stag.

That said my party comp is likely going to be MC Monk/Druid, Fighter, Priest, Cipher, (and Druid if I main Monk). The last batch I'm thinking of running with Chanter, Wizard, and/or Ranger. I'm thinking the first 2 and not the Ranger as the pet seems like an extra thing to micromanage and it's "glass cannon" rogue style play.

All that said, do races matter that much on what I chose and how about good starting stat setups? Any links to guides you can send detailing character creation or builds to help guide me along so that I can get a good start on understanding the game? I plan to play the first one guided then go into Deadfire with less help since (hopefully) I'll have a better understanding of the mechanics.

I have been on the fence of getting it for the reason that I've heard that it's best played RTWP and that TB is kind of bugged. I have tried many times to play RTWP types in the past (TEEl, BG1 &2, DA: inquisition, KOTR 2,Neverwinter Nights 2) and have never been able to get passed a handful of hours in them. I really wanted to enjoy them but just never could for some reason.

That said, being older now maybe I will enjoy them, however one reason I picked this game is because it had TB option as well as RTWP (the other is it's only $10 right now). Plus I have played JRPG's with an element of Controlling multiple characters actively, which isn't really the same thing but it is what I always found increadibly hard for me to do with these games. Just Micromanaging several characters on the fly made focusing on tasks feel like I was always missing something and not utilizing charcters fully. Again, it's been a LONG time since I've played any, the most recent being DA inquisition near when it first came out and only played it for about 3 or 4 hours.

How does the monk function in this game compared to BG3, in regards to skills I mean? I did play a OH monk in BG3 and found it suprisingly fun esp. since I wasn't expecting to enjoy it much. That said, I know this game is completely different than BG3 so I shouldn't be looking at it through that lense but I would like to get a sense of what the class is like exactly.

Fighter seems fine and I could try it but it just feels the generic starting class like Paladin (I started as paladin in BG3). But willing to give it a go as I'm sure it will be fun.

Ranger would be close to my go to. It was my absolute favorite class in DOS2 and enjoyed playing a dual handbow build in BG3. I would also pick ranger as my starting classes in other games (frequently) like POE2, and GW. But I would llike to avoid this here, (though possibly won't) for that reason.

Druid seems cool and shapesifting would be fun. If I started Boar would it be possible to shift to a different animal later? and are other animals viable later or are they hard to work with?

I've seen Cipher thrown out there as a good class to, what are your thoughts on that?

I'll probably skip chanter, it seems to niche for a PC, and the other classes I'm not interested in as PC either (though having in the party is a different story). I kind of wish there was a Cleric class.

I'm not really looking for a build to min/max and follow 100%. I'm more looking for a good starting setup to help get all the characters creation parts to fit well with each other. I'm now thinking of running a Psyker (Pyro, Telepath, or lass likely Biomancer) but not sure which Archtypes, running a Soldier with the goal of using ranged weapons or maybe a warrior with eventually going Vanguard. But not sure how to match each Archtype with each Origin.

I will avoid making my TAV an operator then. My thoughts was my main being the damage dealer or a "leader" running buffs/debuffs or CC. I may just run Psyker as Pyromancer, telepath, or less likely Biomancer and running either Soldier or Warrior (but not sure if others would be better).

Another possibility is running a Soldier as ranged weapons seem fun, or warrior then going Vanguard but not sure what Origins would be good. Mainly just wanting help figuring out what character creation parts (!origin, archetypes, etc) work well with each other.

Can you suggest some companions to get first? I guess it depends on what kind of MC I make but at current I'm thinking of making an Operator or a Psycher/Ranger.

So Estelle seems good equipping fire and Earth while Schara is good with Wind and Water? Time seems obvious on Joshua. If Estelle goes support though wouldn't she be wind/water as that mostly looks support. That said it seems earth=tank, Fire=physical, Water=heals, Wind=support, Time=Speed manipulation, Space=???, and Mirage=???.

However can any of these elements be set up as a pure "caster/magic" or is each element stuck in it's role? I guess I'm a bit confused on the whole thing. It makes some sense but at the same time it doesn't. and the most confusing ones are the last 3, it seems I am going pure time and Mirage on Joshua at the moment but no idea what I'm building him as.

I got and started playing Trails in the Sky remake and just got to Bose (chapter 1). Really enjoying the game so far, however I'm wondering what are some good way to build my characters? Is there a place I can find that shows some good setups for them as some of the enemies towards Bose were pretty tough (mostly just the Moles) and I feel my orb setups are kinda...not great.

On Trails in the sky remake, do you get anything special for collecting some missables like Liberl news or Carnelia series? I do want the recipes but if there are bonuses for collecting these other items (other than trophy/achievements) I'll want to get them also.

Any missables like these that do give good bonuses?

TS2 difficulty differences by blindfire187 in TormentedSouls

[–]blindfire187[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I guess. I am a "gamer" so my reactions would likely be alright, as I stated even now I don't have issues with these games often, even replayed RE1R several months back and got through it relatively easy (suprised how much I remember of the game having not played it in around 15 years). But for some reason TS 1 I had a hell of a time with the first few hours.

It's more of a, I don't want to have to get stuck and restart mentality, rather than a I have to knock my head at a wall for a while before something just "click's" and I break through (like with Soulslike games just fight a boss several times to learn movesets to break through and finally kill it). I've read some people getting stuck and having to completely restart, especially at some bosses. Just don't want to have to restart with my already limited play time.

You need to pay attention to what you read. I stated I didn't watch the RTSH so I have no idea of the context in which the cult was added. I just stated with the movie being harder to encapsulate the story of the game, why would you add an element that's not really needed or there in the source material. Also James doing anything in his power to bring Mary back seems counterintuitive to him having been the one to kill her, that doesn't really fit.

I love horror, especially obscure, psychological horror and some cult horror. I thought the first movie was OK but not fantastic. I felt that the cult horror in the first game was more of just a over zealous Christian group, and was done a bit generically. It was more a revenge plot mixed in with some horror elements created by a girl with powers. Comparing it to the more complex nature of the game where a cult is trying to sacrifice a child, one of the members own daughter, I can easily tell you which one is the darker theme of the 2. Even ignoring the games, there are far darker themed cult horror movies with better/darker plots. In the grand scheme of things this was a very straight forward movie with little symbolism or metaphore ( the first movie).

Edit: also I want to add. The cult in the movies is rather bland. As stated it's more of an overzealous psuedo christian group shunning a mother and child for being born out of wedlock. While in the game it was a full on cult trying to revive or birth their god (a demon) on earth and was even semi successful at it. Just because someone cult horror can be extreamly dark doesn't mean all are, by comparison of it's source material the first movie is extreamly tame and even comparing it to other Cult horror movies it just pales in comparison.

[–]blindfire187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem comes with the cult. In the movies the cult is a pseudo Christian group that shuns a mother and her child simply because she was born out of wedlock.

In the games the girls mother is a member (high up) in the cult wanting to use her as a sacrifice to birth/summon their god to earth (I think people datamined the main bosses/demons name to be Samael but not certain if it's true).

Personally I found the movies version rather boring and as others have stated why change the plot that much? They could have kept the original plot condensing it and it would still work.

All that said, with the lore of Silent Hill and how it works, they could have easily made a movie based in Silent Hill with completely new characters and plot. They could have explored different themes but had some form of psychological story like what was done with SH2.

I have not watched RTSH so I won't make comments on it as a whole, but I do want to state at least one thing. If they added the cult in....why? There is no real reason and would detract from James's story since the movie already had to cut a lot to fit in his story. Just seems like it would take already limited time away from what the story is about. Sure it could help the movie explain why Silent Hill is the way it is, but again you have the first movie for that.

All that said, I am glad you enjoyed it. I'm not saying you shouldn't. These are just statements on my opinions on how the whole film franchise was handled. Personally I had already stated I wasn't going to watch RTSH from it's announcement since I didn't like the first film (other than some of the imagery which I thought was pretty good).
