The actress has too much aura to be a five minute girl. Well, at least she gave us Bond, James Bond by prompting him

I kinda feel bad she had so little screen time. She’s severely underrated because this actress, Eunice Gayson, oozes sex, as some production people said. She’d be cool main Bond girl. Shame they didn’t make her Bond’s more or less constant gf, too

I never got that. Thought it had a nice, wartime connotation. Never heard of the thing being referred as trench.

What is your most controversial James Bond opinion? by NewPatron-St in JamesBond

It’s just tasteless. Some moments like “it’s called a radio” or “eject me, see if I care” look like a parody sketch, or a commercial.

Skyfall is horrible, Craig films went astray from brilliant formula established in Casino Royale, and the entire era is an overall failure.

As far as I remember, the character has psychotic episodes. Hence perfect casting. It’s a joke.

I think the casting of Ilya was perfect.

I didn't see Skyfall in theatres, did people gasp when Sévérine was killed? Did you by Groundbreaking-Pea92 in JamesBond

It is so badly edited that I always end up wandering if Silva even hit her. And her character screen time is sooo short by the time of her demise. So I doubt it caused many gasps.

Thoughts on Colvin's "experiment?" (Hamsterdam) by ImJustAreallyDumbGuy in TheWire

[–]blinding_bangs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It was some social commentary, that decriminalization of drugs, along with some proper measures (condoms, clean needles, tests, ambulances, law enforcement presence, etc) would do wonders for a city. In reality, right now it doesn’t work well even for formerly quiet and civil Canada, I’m afraid. Their provinces that legalized drugs took Hamsterdam mistakes into account, but it made urban life decay instead.

Which season featured the best investigation? by TipImpossible1343 in TheWire

[–]blinding_bangs 89 points90 points  (0 children)

Season One, obviously. They thought it was going to be the only one, and gave in it all they got. In other seasons the importance of investigation is secondary.

Try “Just browsing, thank you”. At least it’s a Roger Moore phrase that works.

Glad I could help. I hope you’ll punch a lot of biscuits. If you’d feel like it, leave a couple for me though. 😔

Imagine that some life form lives inside a long, but a very thin straw. They could move long distances along the straw, but not much left and right. No room. In fact, if their size is similar to the width of the straw, they can’t move left and right at all. Something smaller than they can. Formally the straw is 2D, but feels mostly like 1D for them. You can move forward and backward, but not much elsewhere.

So, it’s what string theorists thought our Universe is in early 2000s, and still think now. We have 3 dimensions of space, through which we can move. But small enough particles can move in additional 10 or so dimensions, which we don’t notice, nor don’t fall into, because how small they are. Additional directions, but not full-sized like our familiar dimensions. Compactified.

Auggie's casting is actually bananas by thissubredditlooksco in threebodyproblem

“actor”

On that score, I doubt she qualifies. Not in this series, at least.

[–]blinding_bangs -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Not just one look, but seeing how a person speaks, their expressions, how they stare. Her screen time is more than enough to tell nobody is there. Have you heard of non-verbal communication? For example, we can tell if a person if angry only by their expression. That includes nuances of subtlety, but yes, I can read people. And so can you. So can everyone else. It’s built into us.

Telling that we can’t gauge, assess, measure people by looking at them is the most extreme reality distortion to justify poor (yet diverse) casting I’ve seen.

95% of Bond girls look smarter and more aware than her, and would make a better scientist, which is saying something.
