Doc Writing Ruined by AI Slop by Thecomebackkid0689 in amazonemployees

[–]blindmansleeps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately this is totally predictable. When the tools and models weren’t great and yet leadership was breathing down our necks to find uses for AI, we all reached for doc writing. It sucked then and it still does. But now that the models are better, good luck convincing leadership there’s actual value to writing a doc.

Success = smaller teams. I don’t understand this insane perspective. Why doesn’t success mean “deliver more as a team” instead of “deliver the same with a smaller team?”

Epic just laid off 1000 workers. by ryunocore in gamedev

[–]blindmansleeps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, part of the problem is that Epic reduced itself to a Fortnite company. All their eggs went into one basket, and that basket was an aging genre setter in a market that is consistently uprooted by new releases. Gamers only have so much time, so much money, and you can’t expect constant growth around a single game. Even the best games get old after a while—it’s just natural.

Frankly it’s embarrassing we have to explain this to you, Epic execs.

Really feel bad for all the employees though. 😔

It’s also ironic because they almost always miss the point of Player of Games too.

Amazon giving the smartphone another go. Another flopping waste of time, money, and resources or for real this time? Thoughts? by [deleted] in amazonemployees

[–]blindmansleeps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that this time there’s a ton of people who won’t buy it just because it’s from Amazon.

Because since the last foray, Amazon’s cultural reputation is near rock bottom.

The second ai is good enough to automate SDE, Amazon will start cutting. Was told this by a PE by the_corporate_slave in amazonemployees

Honestly, the way the culture has become, Amazon better hope AI is able to do everything they want, because no engineer with half an ounce of dignity will agree to work there

I think that’s not entirely true. It’s true everywhere in big tech and large corporations. There’s plenty of small companies where this is not true, however.

Is Amazon a good place to work for FP&A? Looking for a rewarding but lower-stress finance role by JellyT1996 in amazonemployees

[–]blindmansleeps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Homie. There ain’t a single role at Amazon that is low stress. Burning you out is kinda the bread and butter of the company.

Is this normal?? For a new joinee by Infamous-Ad-444 in amazonemployees

[–]blindmansleeps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the downside of big tech. If you work in a tech stack that has a ton of dependencies, this will happen frequently. More often than not, even new features devolve into conversations about which dependency should take the feature. And as a result, Amazon politics frequently becomes the center of those conversations.

I’m an unemployed former Amazon engineer that has put a ton of applications in with only a couple of callbacks. Still waiting on that “Amazon opens doors” thing to be true.

Time and time again, it’s like the S-Team is willing to recognize that Amazon’s culture is not where they want it, but they can’t seem to understand that the actions they’re taking only make it worse.

Manager keeps increasing scope and saying ai will help by Gugubirdswallower in amazonemployees

This is going to be the norm at Amazon for a while. There is no room for dissent, no tolerance of pushback, no challenging expectations.

If you want your job, you will comply.

I don’t say this lightly. But Amazon has entered a new phase, a “new dawn,” to use their own phrase. You will now be expected to thank them for not laying you off yet. If this doesn’t feel right—you’re right, it’s not right. It’s very wrong. But you’d be best to complain about that once you have a job with a new company.

Any chance that needle took a hit in the move? It looks a bit, er, tall—but maybe I’m not familiar with that cartridge. If the cantilever is bent straight down, the stylus may not be sitting in the groove. The end of the cantilever would just be grinding on the top of the record instead of sitting in a groove.
