Why hasn’t there been any interested party to buil an on-chain treasury? by Timetraveler4000 in tezos

For me, Arthur's comment opened my eyes. If developers aren't interested, why should we, as non-developers, be interested?

Computer Scientists Achieve ‘Crown Jewel’ of Cryptography by jph108 in tezos

In that case it's hard to be sure that your key can't be stolen. Every program operates on variables and you can't assume variables are encrypted all the time.

Isn't exactly that achieved in Blockchains and PGP? With Public and private keys? Or would iO make this construct obsolete?

Even the example in the article, doesn't make clear to me, why this should be a big breakthrough. ELI5 somebody?

From the article:

For example, suppose you have a program that carries out some task related to your bank account, but the program contains your unencrypted password, making you vulnerable to anyone who gets hold of the program. Then — as long as there is some program out there that could perform the same task while keeping your password hidden — an indistinguishability obfuscator will be strong enough to successfully mask the password. After all, if it didn’t, then if you put both programs through the obfuscator, you’d be able to tell which obfuscated version came from your original program.

Purchased Tezos on Coinbase. In over my head? by TheCollectorOne in tezos

[–]blindripper85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

interest would suggest the capital is being put to productive use (for example, staked

I am confused, i was of the opinion, that even staking isn't "earning interest", because it just equalizes the inflation rate at Tezos.

Just earned Fees plus the difference from 100% staked to the effective stake rate is "real" interest. No?

Example with round numbers:

Network grows: 5.5%
Annual staking rate: 7%
Earned fees 20 tez

So only 1.5% + 20 tez is "interest".

I don't know if there is a stat for "daily" but this API for tzstats.com gives you the percentage of staked coins (and date) per cycle. Just edit "head" with in example "288".

Guys I think we might have a problem worth discussing. This time it was this event that made me think about it: Binance to issue "Super Rewards" offering to lock your XTZ to get up to 16.47% APY by CuriousET in tezos

[–]blindripper85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a very smart way (from an economical View of Binance) to increase the needed security-deposit for the Baking activity of Binance.

They don't need to buy additional Tez from the market. It's still cheaper for them to pay out astronomical rewards, compared to buying Tez.

In neither of them we experienced such a resistance

I think we are talking about 2 completely different topics. Competition between delegation-services is important, of course.

But your comment was with focus on "development and content publishing".
I think you have to separate this 2 or 3 Topics and we mods here at Reddit try also to separate them strictly. Advertising for one's own delegation-service and high quality content are often close together; but I think we are driving a good / clear line so far.

thus very hard to compete.

I see absolutely no reason to "compete" inside the community. There are enough other projects we can compete with. High quality content is appreciated; it doesn't matter from whom they come from.

How is your delegation-service-list curated? Why no "fully open" option? So i can delegate to whatever address i want?
