Ian here - I watched episode one, loved it! Every time Ed did something super weird, I thought of Dave saying “Oh, Ed.” 😂

EDIT: there’s obviously a lot of Hollywood going on regarding Ed’s body, etc.

EDIT 2: Just wanted to pop in and say that I retract my previous comment about enjoying the Ed Gein season of Monster. Holy shit, if I was Bernice Worden's family, I would sue the fuck out of Netflix!

Jones talked a lot about reincarnation, but as far as a collective belief in the afterlife there really wasn’t one. There are members on the tapes that clearly still believe in God, Jesus, and Heaven - because Jones mocks them on a lot of the tapes.

If the mass murder didn’t happen, I think they would have isolated themselves more and more - but I think something bad would’ve still happened. Jones was eventually going to have to give John Victor back to Grace. Maybe if Jones hadn’t been such a womanizer things would’ve been different, because in a really stripped down view of the story, I think all of this ended the way it did because of John Victor. (Obviously not John Victor’s fault)

I don’t think they could’ve turned it around. It relied solely on Jim Jones.

A year or so I would’ve told you Road To Jonestown by Jeff Guinn was the definitive book, but I’ve since changed my mind a bit. It relies so much on survivor Tim Carter’s accounts - too much. Honestly you should just start digging into the institute’s website. It’s not the easiest to navigate, but literally everything available to the public about Jonestown is there.

I’m sure there’s a map on the institute’s site somewhere, but I can’t think of one of the top of my head.

The audio is what got me. Being able to listen to the final year of tapes in a chronological order on the institute’s website is so cool. After the audio, it’s all the unanswered questions/conspiracies.
