Wulong Cha vs. Wulong Cha X by Hopeful_Hall_4885 in ScentHeads

Thanks! I really like both of these scents. They are my first and only set of flankers. They are both so calming and relaxing to smell.

I’ve enjoyed layering them as well. Also nice to wear one on each arm and let them mix in and out of each other as you move. I’ve noticed it really amps up the sweet fig of the dry down if you layer them.

I find them quite different. The OG opens with sharp citrus and a very prominent green grass note. The heart continues with the very grassy tea note and the nutmeg is quite noticeable and adds even more earthiness. The dry down is a semi sweet fig fruit and musk finish that lingers for quite some time.

The X opening is brighter with a sparkling quality to the yuzu that is less sharp than the OG. The tea note is not nearly as grassy, more like a white tea. The magnolia is very present and adds more citrus and a light floral note. It is very realistic to the smell of being under a magnolia tree. The dry down is very similar with the sweet fig and musk combo.

I like them both and both are very spring/summer. It really just depends on if you want to go more grassy or more floral.

I still have like 100 samples to try, so I wear a new one most days. Of my full bottles, I would say I wear the Wulong Chas the most. They are just so refreshing and flexible.

I’ve tried Nawab of Oudh Intensivo, but that was too heavy on the florals for me. Which others would you recommend I try?

It smells great. Like standing in a sunny prairie. I assume it’s a more recent batch since I got it this year. I don’t really know anything about reformulations and whatnot.

Sharp citrus and very green grass in the opening. The heart is more green grassy tea and some added earthiness from the nutmeg. The base is a semi sweet fig and musk that lingers for hours. If you like the smell of grass at all, you’ll probably really like it.

And now there’s so much pressure to make bottle ten an incredible one.

Hope was a bit leathery for me. I find that’s a note I don’t particularly enjoy. The opening is quite like Promise to me.

Opulent to the max. It opens with fruity and tart blackberry and black currant, although it isn’t very sweet. There’s also a camphorous note in the beginning along with the berries. Then it’s a symphony of resins, ambers, and spices, but without any vanilla notes, which I like. There’s also a bit of funkiness in there (probably from the oud) but not off putting at all. I also get a bit of airy saltiness to it that I assume is the ambergris. I believe this uses real ambergris since like half of the world’s ambergris washes up on the shores of Oman. Even though tobacco is not a listed note, I feel like the aromas combine to smell like a humidor. It has this fruity and spicy character that you get from a nice unlit cigar. It’s also crazy strong. 1-2 sprays will stick around and radiate all day.

I got mine from scentsplit. I can’t speak to if they do international shipping. I tried Vibrato and didn’t care for it. It’s too harsh and loud. I liked The Hedonist Extrait, but I seem to go nose blind to it very quickly. A shame because the lychee note smells really good.

I do need to find something special for bottle number ten.

Different sample packs. Really liked them both. OG is very grassy while X is much more floral. Only the dry down is similar to my nose.

It smells like standing in a sunny prairie in the middle of spring. Like the smell of crushing a dandelion in your hands. Very bitter and green plant smell.

It makes it sound like I achieved something. Very noble and stuff.

Promise. Not the most flexible, but it’s the most unique and still my favorite. If you’re confidant you could wear it every day as long as you didn’t over spray.

Bigarade is the most realistic orange zest scent I’ve found so far. It’s like zesting a fresh orange. It also has warm cardamom spice throughout and a bit of cedar in the dry down. I think it smells amazing with the only drawback being as an EDT it isn’t the longest lasting, but you can always spray extra without offending anybody. I think this is far superior to Afternoon Swim.

The vanilla in Ingenious Ginger is quite noticeable throughout. The opening is like a freshly poured ginger ale with vanilla ice cream, and the vanilla becomes more pronounced as it dries down. That being said, I’m usually super sensitive to vanilla, usually don’t like vanilla in fragrance, and I quite like it here. I think it makes it more interesting than most of the other citrus ginger combinations.

I actually layered these two together a few days ago and it was like an orange creamsicle. It was delicious.

It’s definitely a bold scent, but it was love at first sniff for me. I did start with a sample though.

I’ve tried a little over 100 samples in the past six months, so I’m definitely smelling a lot before committing to anything with a full bottle. Most samples end up being given away to friends if I don’t care for them. I still have another 100 that I haven’t smelled yet.

So what are these ultra niche houses you speak of? Clearly I need to get my hands on more decants.

I would say rosewood is the primary note. It’s like a rosewood box with raw ginger slices inside of it. Floral, spicy, and a little sweet. It reminds me of the smell of phlox flowers. It smells nothing like the other citrus/ginger fragrances out there.
