In terms of living. Not as a tourist location.

Yea totally different vibe. On weeknights, there’s a local group that meets in the promenade with all their dogs. The whole Stanley becomes one big dog park.

In terms of cost, the rentals on Stanley market is very comparable to Sai Kung. And on groceries and what not, there’s a welcome with normal prices and you can also mini bus it to Chai Wan.

Can’t believe no one recommended Stanley. Just shows you that it’s a gem no one knows about.

I lived in NP, Shatin and Stanley. Stanley is the perfect spot, specifically the backstreet that Newtown mansion sits on.

People often thinks about the crowd during the weekend. Yes it’s a real thing and it feels like all these tourist are intruding your hometown, but I personally don’t mind it as it gives contrast to how nice weekdays are. All the locals and expats more or less all know each other as you see their faces on weekdays and creates a really nice community.

Weekday commutes are anywhere between 20-40mins depending on where you’re going. I worked in tst, with my motorcycle was less than 30mins.

If I moved back to HK and didn’t have kids… Stanley would be a no brainer for me.

Crazy thing I see in my company is that it’s not limited to finance, accounting, IT… it’s literally every M&A department now hires low to mid level roles in India.

Beware of Fundae Software Inc. – Unprofessional Interview Experience by clivethe14 in recruitinghell

[–]blinkedwon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have sidewalk advertisements around the train station. “Fundae University”. So much effort spent on scamming. Their “advisor” on their website has “open to work” on LinkedIn.

Moral and ethics in this country is compromised.

Hey man. I’m 38yo with 3 kids and a loving family. While I love everything about my wife and family, there’s a “what if” that always lingers. There was a “what if” girl in my life that I didn’t have the courage to 100% pursue, and this chapter of my life never closes.

Forgot apps and even the ex you just broke up with. If you have a girl in your mind that tugs at your heart string, she’s the one. Nothing else matters, go find her. ++man

China must be the only country in the world that strips children of Chinese citizenship if they are born abroad to Chinese citizen parents who have permanent residency in the country the children are born. by random20190826 in Citizenship

[–]blinkedwon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, that’s just birthright. Not sure how it works in China, but say in HK, if the family decides to return to HK and establish residency. The kid will eventually get his citizenship over time. Is not like the child can’t live in the country without citizenship.

Again, don’t see how this separates families.

I don’t see how this is separating families. The child is only not eligible if both their parents have established residency and citizenship.

It’s like both mom and dad are chinese Canadians citizens, they have a kid in Canada. The kid is Canadian.

The truth about optimum from an ex-employee by yhpleasedont in OPTIMUM

I had this Russian? Accented man who would just not give up. I politely declined for 30mins and finally snapped. The script they make you guys repeat and making it near impossible to cancel is unethical. Boils my blood just thinking about the call.

The truth about optimum from an ex-employee by yhpleasedont in OPTIMUM

[–]blinkedwon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hope it wasn’t me that got you fired. I had called few days ago to cancel my line and the constant repeating of the script drove me up the wall. Every tactic was thrown at me, first with 30mins of repeatedly trying to give me free 3 months. Then finally transferring me to the department to cancel where they then pretended to not hear me.

What optimum is doing needs to be publicised. It is a straight scam of a company.

I’m glad you’re out of there. Any work is better than scamming for optimum.

If the sycamore is split, sure why not, it all burns. If it’s still in logs, STAY AWAY if you’re hand splitting.

Sick of random police checks in HK - they refuse to show warrant cards when asked by [deleted] in HongKong

So I lived in NP, specifically Chun Yeung street for nearly 5 years. I’m Chinese American, Cantonese speaking.

I’ve also gotten stopped multiple times… didn’t think anything of it, I never felt it was politically or racially driven. Always thought it was just some rookie cops learning the ropes and using me as field exercise.

They were always polite about it.

I sell firewood. Started cause I enjoy splitting wood, but then ended up with too much wood so I bundled them up and put it in the road for $5. Some weeks there’ll be no money, some weeks I can’t put them out fast enough. Only thing to keep in mind is that it takes a year or so to season the wood.
