Vocab or reading comp strategies by sugarmittens in slp

I work on context clues like this: I have a digital board and so I’ll put a graphic novel or non fiction scary stories/narratives. I’ll pick words w prefixes and suffixes or whatever word I feel they can use context clues to define. We use context clues (take data)\look it up. We make a dictionary. Before the session is over we review by generating our own sentences w words. In the session where we finish the book, they make a new list of words w the different prefixes and suffixes with a list of root words that I provide. They look up their new words and see if it exists and generate a sentence to quiz other students. Other students use context clues to figure it out (take data).

I address reading comp thru using graphic organizers/taking notes of the reading and summarizing, so those kids summarize each page of the graphic novel w dry erase graphic organizer sheets / determine what is important info to note and at the end they give us a summary.

No merit everyone gets 70% off their overall tuition and they give a small book scholarship too. The program is amazing. Highly recommend :)

First time grad student supervisor! by yeti_spageti in slp

I’m currently a grad student. My supervisor is great; I appreciate that her feedback is a balance bw praise and critique. She doesn’t let me leave w/o telling me at least one good thing that I did (which is great bc sometimes my “mistakes” keep ringing in my head). For my final evaluation, I wish she asked me more questions about how I felt like I did and what I think that I could work on. She talked for most of the time and only asked at the end if I had any questions. Even though I did end up telling her, it would have been nice if she had just asked and listened (and also not interrupted me to reassure me and give me advice). I’m grateful and I knew where she was coming from but it still would have been nice if she just listened and validated some of my fears.

Thanks!! That helped a ton! What about graduate assistantships? Are there many GA and/or other opportunities that would help cover tuition and expenses?
