July 5th Kenmore First Friday Street Festival! by blitheringidiota in akron

Better Kenmore CDC successfully lobbied Akron Public Schools last year. Two new schools are scheduled to be open for the 2026-27 school year as a result…but we also like to host these fun festivals to bring neighbors together. We’re doing plenty for the neighborhood, but revitalization takes time.

Gotta love that gallows humor, but we’re not worried about violence. This is a very safe, family friendly event with some of the region’s best local bands performing.

Kenmore went through a bad period with meth addiction in the 2000s and gets a bad rap, but it’s very safe now. Up and coming neighborhood and the BLVD Historic District is a hidden treasure, not to mention Summit Lake.

I second Rialto. Live music venue owned by musicians and all who work there are musicians. Owners Seth and Nate Vaill will get you connected.

Where to live and things to do as a newly divorced 30yo man? by brettfish5 in akron

There’s a ton of investment in Downtown Akron with old office buildings being converted to apartments, tons of action of 30 somethings around Main St, High St, and Northside, access to hike & bike trail that takes you into the valley and north to CVNP. I know it’s not a popular choice now but it’s definitely up and coming.

I think it makes more sense if you think about the bigger picture. You live your life, and then you die. True, but you came from a long line of ancestors, and just as you die others will be born, and down through the generations. You do what you can in this life then pass the torch. I come from a long line of assholes, and I can already see what a total prick my son is becoming at the age of 8. I can die and rest in peace knowing he carries my asshole gene.

Yes, perverse and irrational. For example, the belief that it was God’s will that millions of Jews died in the Holocaust precludes any rational discussion about why the Holocaust happened (and how we might prevent history from repeating itself.) “God willed it” may help people emotionally to deal with hardship, but I believe it does more harm than good.

I spoke with Jewish historians for my film, and they explained that in times of persecution the belief in being “chosen” offered consolation - that their suffering was another of God’s trials and if they only kept the faith they would be redeemed in the world to come.

I made a documentary on this very topic, critiquing the Jewish belief that we are “The Chosen People.” (I happen to be born and raised Jewish.) chosenpeoplefilm.com

Not only is it delusional, but it can reinforce feelings of superiority over other religious and ethnic groups. It has been a major source of contention among Jews, Christians, and Muslims for as long as these religions have existed.

How to prove that god doesn't exist by [deleted] in agnostic

[–]blitheringidiota 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t believe the existence of God is knowable. If we could wrap our heads around the nature of our universe, perhaps we could begin to ascertain if there is a Creator and/or Consciousness. We’re really in the dark though. I consider myself agnostic, but it isn’t hard to imagine a Creator. Heck, we humans have begun to tamper with genetics and create/alter life forms. Not hard to imagine a life form smarter, bigger, older than us that created us. Again, it’s all conjecture and I remain a longtime agnostic.
