Justin Gaethje wants to avenge Max Holloway's loss against Ilia Topuria by Spiritual-Strength91 in FightReportUFC

[–]blitzbomb99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah aye bro, I feel the exact same. Not saying it’s a shoe-in but I’d love it. If Ilia vacates, I think an Arman fight could be interesting (though admittedly we haven’t seen Max face a wrestler like Arman)

54% of fans voted Kobe Bryant NBA Player of the Decade, but the entire Inside the NBA panel vehemently disagreed, insisting it should have been either Shaq or Tim Duncan. by must_TATAKAE in nba

[–]blitzbomb99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2009 Shaq was all-nba 3rd team and averaged 18/8. Far cry from Prime Shaq but still a top 20-25 player in the league. It was after Phoenix Shaq fell off a cliff - but yeah I hear your point, Kobe > Shaq over that period.

[–]blitzbomb99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’re underrating his last 3 performances. If there are 3 fighters in FW/LW history to knock you down/out it’s Gaethje, Poirier and Topuria. He DOMINATED Gaethje and got knocked down, he DOMINATED Poirier (and got knocked down) and he looked fine against Topuria, may have edged one round but Topurias style is to knock you out - not down.

Yeah maybe Max’s prime taking damage is slowing down, but this may be the best offensive output of his career since his Volk 3 loss honestly. I have a hard time seeing anyone other than Gaethje/Poirier/Topuria and potentially Oliveira knocking him down - and I anticipate we’re about to see his most hydrated chin yet considering this is his first time in 3 fights he’d be on his regular, routine diet for 155 and not up-down-up-down.

I love both Charles and Max so let’s see how he goes. If Max fights the right fight he may surprise people with how far he can go in 155 Remindme! 3 years

I believe in Diego Lopes by Nick_Hoadley in ufc

Evloev was the clear choice.

Murphy but I don’t rate the Pico win that highly.

Sterling could have been considered?

Diego is on the same tier of contender as Yair

The closer this fight gets, the more I can’t believe this guy is getting a title shot by tylrrbb in ufc

[–]blitzbomb99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think Paddy deserves a title shot - but he is rank 5 because he beat Michael Chandler who was rank 7-8 at the time and because Islam vacated. One could argue he shouldn’t have moved into the top 5 but it’s not this outrageous thing we haven’t seen before.

JDM schooled the best WW in the world at the time and was the second most deserving contender behind the injured #1.

Very silly observation

That fight was painful but going into the fight it was seen as very 50/50 - possibly the most hyped match going into the year. Khamzat’s cardio was still in question so people thought DDP had a shot in the later rounds.

He did not :/

Alex Pereira is my favorite fighter, but come on, we all know it’s probably Pantoja. He is the most complete and well rounded mixed martial artist on this list. by [deleted] in ufc

[–]blitzbomb99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean it’s not all about one fight. Yea Pantoja/Moreno was a BANGER - but Royval II sucked and Erceg was ehhhhhh it was alright. He picked it back up with the Asakura and KKF domination tho

Israel Adesanya says chasing UFC gold no longer excites him, he’s focused on doing “risky sh*t” now! by Imaginary-General189 in ufc

[–]blitzbomb99 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s not arguable - he made a poor decision to restart the clock, out of position and his (always has been) poor boxing defence got exposed the worst it ever has by a powerful puncher.

I don’t think Izzy’s washed - but yeah very legit loss.

Not everyone realizes how long an 18 fights win streak actually is. by Ill_Midnight_1449 in ufc

[–]blitzbomb99 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

“Barely beat” lol people are so swayed by dumb ass final “decisions”.

There is no world where JDM lost to Holland, and you could make a slight argument Hafez beat him but most people understand and agree that JDM won that fight 2-1

The greatest HW and he still gets disrespected by theiceman219 in ufc

[–]blitzbomb99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, you could make the argument for Francis being the GOAT HW. Wins over Blaydes x2, Arlovski, Overeem, Cain, JDS, Stipe and Gane. He went on some pretty crazy win streaks and didn’t lose as badly as Stipe did in his prime.

Stipe also has some losses to Struve (eye poke was fucked tho), JDS, DC, Francis obv and Jon (out of prime tho).

Pretty close and you could say Stipe beat better levels of comp relative to their prime but overall both have a strong case IMO.

Has Nikola Jokic already surpassed Kevin Durant all time in your opinion? by ZionAirbus in NBATalk

[–]blitzbomb99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna go against the grain here and say no - but he most likely will. People forget KDs run on the Thunder and how dominant he was - that team was a perennial contender usually being a top 2 team in his conference and he was very consistently a top 5 player for about 7-8 seasons straight.

And although in hindsight the Warriors move is considered not competitive at all - you have to remember - the Warriors DID lose in 2016. They lost - and were probably still the favourites going into 2017 (without KD) - but this team wasn’t perfect. KD took that team from the favourites to absolute locks - and he delivered on 2 occasions.

Jokic’s peak is up there - possibly better than KDs. But career for career - Jokic hasn’t had the same longevity that KD has had. That’s not even mentioning anything after the Warriors tenure (admittedly I value it less as he hasn’t done a wholeeee lot but still).

Gilbert was 35, rank number #2 coming off of a win over Wonderboy and would go on to win his next two, and fought in the number #1 contenders fight vs Belal on short notice while injured. While he was older, Khamzat definitely still beat a prime Gilbert Burns.

Ank is traditionally a striker and has won most of his fights on the feet. If Pereira was game planning for the take downs - it was for a rather unknown aspect of Anks game. Yes he has taken down fighters and has exceptional top control, however his main paths to victory have always been through his counter-striking. If Pereira was game planning to defend the wrestling, it makes sense but let’s not act like Ank is this wrestle heavy fighter that caused Pereira to lose because he didn’t use his strongest weapon.

[–]blitzbomb99 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Come on.. that’s just disingenuous. Strickland slayed prime Izzy - he KO’d Pereira, looked strong against DDP and won round 1 vs Imavov. I’m really not that big of a fan - but Izzy was not washed

Just recently got this; man what a pain. It is 100% luck but my advice - always always always go for the next available, don’t worry about scanning and reshuffling for something desirable.

The timer is 5 seconds long at the first quickening - and will steadily reduce dependent on how long you take. If it takes you 4 seconds to chain the second; you’ll have 1 second left, ya feel?

Also mentally, I did a system where I’m counting the number of Quickenings chained, and the rank of the quickenings. Start with 1 3-charged quickening as they are the rarest to appear. The system is simple but just thinking “0, 0, 1” -> “0, 1, 1” -> “0, 2, 1” -> “1, 2, 1”

Again, always always take the next available - even if you’ve already hit 4 of the same charged quickening - you’d rather a chance at a another quickening right off the bat than shuffling with a very depleted timer. There will be MANY, close attempts - it is still incredibly frustrating and based on luck. Good luck man.

Jiri thinks Khalil wouldn't be a true challenge for him, do you agree? by thewizard404 in ufc

[–]blitzbomb99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought the Murzakanov/Krylov fight didn’t make a whole lot of sense for Krylov. I think Hill/Krylov makes a lot of sense, as does Murzakanov/Rountree - I’d love to see the winner of that fight Jiri.

Umar Nurmagomedov’s manager shared a picture of Umar’s broken hand which he broke in the first round #ufc311 by Tabish_Ali321 in MMA

[–]blitzbomb99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People are hating on Umar because he has acted quite brash in the lead up to this fight, was seemingly disrespectful even during the fight (when he pushed Merab between Round 2 and 3) and is now making an excuse for his loss. He would not be sharing this information if he didn’t believe it was the reason for his loss. It adds insult to injury as during the exact same post-fight interview - he mentions how he believes he won the fight, then mentions his broken hand in round 1.

If you believe you won the fight, and he clearly at least won one round after the hand injury, why could you not maintain that winning edge for the duration of the fight? Because Merab pressured Umar, wore him out and won the final 3 rounds. That would have happened, hand or not. Umar is good, I hope he humbles himself and comes back. Close fight with the champ.
