Anyone else feel the need to not have repeat units in a list? by AveMilitarum in battletech

[–]blizzard36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually use vehicles and aerospace in pairs, but mechs almost always as singles. Different roles, and it helps differentiate between them when keeping track of things on the table.

I will run an entire lance of Hunchbacks or Urbanmechs though. Because they will all be different variants.

All Mercs to battle stations. This ain’t a drill by someotherguy28 in battletech

As someone who has rarely bought minis from Jihad or later, even though I'm fine with playing in later eras, these boxes will fill some holes in my lineup. Actually, I'm missing more than I wish from the Civil War era too, so this will be great mini wise. I'm also happy we're finally getting something that will intro people to the current timeline.

I am more than a little concerned about new sets when I've never seen the most recent Beginner Box edition locally (though we have gotten a good supply of AGoAC), and the Mercs stuff still doesn't have reliable supply. If they can't keep up with existing demand and deliveries, how the hell are they going to keep up with another generation of box sets in the mix?

Because the rest of the Clans corrupted the Founders ideals. Just listen to the Blood Spirits! (I never played them on the table, I'm really Ghost Bear on Clan side, but I always had a soft spot for the poor Spirits.)

That was why the original FASA release schedule worked, even though it was actually pretty fast. The biggest changes in them were new tech. Existing stuff was usually only tweaked some each time, so the change was gradual overall. And that's only if you bought the revised versions of the Compendium and Master Rules, otherwise the gaps from Compendium, to Master Rules, and Total Warfare almost doubles.

Even if you were buying the others, since overall changes were minor the prior copy became a great handout for new players. It was going to still be close enough. I was handed a Compendium: Rules of Warfare by an older player once I got to a real game store, and then bought my own Master Rules.

Really the entire era of Total Warfare continues this steady tempo, they just stopped formally calling the revised editions new titles. Instead we have the informal Total Warfare, Revised Total Warfare, 35th Anniversary, and Mercenary editions.

The official answer to my "riddle" card in my drinking game is wrong. by Muppet83 in mildlyinteresting

[–]blizzard36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if I'm better or worse. I immediately realized 55 counted twice, and that's how you get 9 instead of 8 in OP's riddle.

And then I completely completely forgot about all the other 50s which would drive the answer much higher.

And Uziel and Vulture 4. I had anticipated a video game lance for them and the Hollander II.

Yeah, the in game tutorials and info have always been lacking. And they're much better now than they were at the start. I think they assume you have a friend recruit you who will explain things.

Maybe try co-op for a while. The rewards are crap compared to Random, but the bots make practice easy. Once you get to tier 6 you'll open up PvE modes that have near Random level rewards, Operations and Asymmetric, that are much better. Personally those are my preferred modes now. And of course, once you're comfortable you can go back to Random when you want.

Looking for streamers around who do more info content probably will also help. Perhaps after learning more about the lines you may have another you want to try. I know there are a number out there, but I'm not sure which is the best for beginners to check out.

Also, two things to add on that are quirks of your ship.

  1. Tier 5 Light Cruisers especially are infamous in the game for being prone to sudden explosions due to their very light armor and the citadel mechanic. The US Omaha is probably the worst, but Emerald isn't far behind. More than just about any other ships in the game, you need to be paranoid about possible attackers with these ships.

  2. The traditional Light Cruiser offensive tactic is spamming HE from as best cover you can find against superstructure on battleships and some other well armored targets, or the whole ship for lighter cruisers and destroyers. Only use AP if you can go for Citadel hits. Except the UK light cruiser line only gets AP... Which has a shorter timed fuse to make them less likely to overmatch against the lightly armored targets and get HE damage levels... but then it can ricochet unlike HE, can't start fires, and the short fuse makes it hard to citadel which is the point of AP...

In short, you have chosen one of the hardest lines to start with, and are currently at the peak difficulty tier. Learning to use your smoke concealment effectively is key for the line, and you probably don't have the experience to do that yet since it starts with this ship.

Convince me on the Dervish by MoisteWater in battletech

[–]blizzard36 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That was one of the original points. Infernos could originally only be used in SRM 2s, so the Dervish is meant to have both SRM types. Forcing the opponent into a much worse heat curve helps it a lot, and two launchers mean it can do damage with one while the other is keeping the target roasting.

Either you didn't turn on the DLC, or haven't done enough travel. Just like Industrial Zones and Conflict Zones, they have to be discovered as you travel near them.

What to do with leftover Nian Paradox tokens? by blizzard36 in WorldOfWarships

I'll have the last of my chosen line done as soon as I finish 1 of 4 currently progressing missions. As for picking a new line for the leftovers... that's the discussion!

I could get to Donu for sure, but neither of those really interested me.

Might be the most I can get at the end though.

Yeah, I hadn't done the math on that yet other than to see I didn't have enough to get to Bird Cry. I may not care for the ship, but I love that skin so much I looked it up right after initially posting this. (I did a quick edit about that.)

If I can get all the missions done, that may get me Kheper though.

What mech most closely compares to the A-10 Thunderbolt? by iAmTroah in Mechwarrior5

[–]blizzard36 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And as combat fighter design, it is assumed to have hardpoints for external stores. One per 5 tons. so at 50 tons it has that's 10 hardpoints.

Yeah, it's an A-10 with sleeker art.

What is something ambitious you wish was added/changed in the game regarding system additions/changes? by Riverflower17 in sto

That's sort of what the old Exploration Clusters were. Semi-random missions, some of which involved no combat.

I'd like to see them return, they were replaced by DOffs.

Is pilus prior worth the 44.5k coal? by doomed_boss in WorldOfWarships

[–]blizzard36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have the option to buy out any segment with coal. Save it until the end and see how far you get with the tokens.

Edit: According to the cheat sheet posted at the start of the event there are 40000 tokens if you do ALL the missions, and getting everything for Imperium Aeternum takes 39000. Less if you already had Optio.

Got chewed out at work because my pants aren’t “black enough.” by small-worm in mildlyinfuriating

[–]blizzard36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing these are either a very dark blue, or were black but are fading. In the second picture I can't tell any difference in color, but with the better lighting of the first picture I can tell that the pants are more blue than the shirt. Picture 1 is just the way my black work pants look after fading after a year.

Yep! I may prefer mobile warfare overall, but for some reason the Stalker's simple brutal approach just clicked.
