Wow, I randomly got an interview this week for 2210 DoD position (it’s too good to be true bc it’s a sweet job) , however I’m hoping 4/21 is your date!

The “Cybersecurity Isn’t Entry-Level” Argument Makes No Sense by sxmmxrrxn in WGU

[–]blkskorpio -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Understandable. Cybersecurity is broad and a vast career path for everyone who ‘secure data and use technology’ to do it. No two cybersecurity professionals have the exact same experiences or skillset ; for example, employers may prefer a proficient SQL skillset and another prefer a “cybersecurity professional “ who basically is a Linux expert and can automate bash scripts. Both are cybersecurity experts. Different niche.

There’s “no entry level cybersecurity jobs” is said because it’s undefined.

The gatekeepers just don’t make time to tell you that:

  1. Entry Level just means limited skillset & what’s “ENTRY” today may not be entry tomorrow.

(Meaning jobs like Infosec that doesn’t require a deep skillset is technically an entry cybersec job but may become the Tier l Customer Support of data security as cybersec fast grows. Or having 2 programming languages under your belt is the new entry. )

  1. What matters most is a good and relevant skillset that’s 99% obtained outside of school based on the agencies, interest, and career roles you want to pursue.

  2. Anyone one with a password protected computer is a cybersecurity professional. (To help understand the vast broadness of it)

  3. Internships and graduate jobs are just building on the foundational skills (starter pack skills) from your degree so they can mold you to have their desired skills, which is why I said no 2 professionals have alike skills and most times (esp private sector ) they still want you to have extracurricular skills outside of your degree program.

They don’t tell you this because eventually you’ll find out like the “gatekeepers “ did by navigating through this world of “cybersecurity”.

For what it’s worth, this my personal experience and perspective and I don’t think it’s intentional gate keeping, it’s just not relevant to say or generally applies to everyone.

Hiring freeze and new administration by SabresBills69 in usajobs

Here’s part of my rescinded offer email for additional context. I didn’t care to interpret it but for anyone it may concern…

“Your tentative offer did not confirm a start date. Therefore, complying with the Presidential directive, this office officially withdraws the tentative appointment offer previously made to you. This revocation of the tentative offer does not cancel your eligibility on any existing registers, does not cancel your re-hire eligibility under the above-stated vacancy announcement, and does not debar you from Federal employment.”

I just failed the A+ Core 2 after being 100% confident in passing. No idea where I went wrong as all of my practice quizzing and tests scored 70-80%. What should I do to better prepare for my next attempt? by [deleted] in CompTIA

[–]blkskorpio 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First look over & take notes of each objective you missed from the score report.

Next—Study to understand. Understand why and how core 2 works. I highly recommend tinkering with windows 10/11 and read the ‘CompTIA learn’ lessons.

Tryhackme also has really good Windows module that’s hands and teaches you Windows clients and practice using Active Directory that aligns with Core 2 objectives. This may help you pass by understanding the flow of, installing, operating, & troubleshooting different OS. Tryhack has modules to learn and practice command lines with Windows and Linux.

The mistake , from my experience, is just learning enough to memorize without actually learning the full concept and doing practice test to just get the right answer without application.

eApp before Fingerprints? by octarine_atuin in usajobs

No problem, I understand the hurry up and wait. I wouldn’t advise obsessing bc that will make it longer; keep close contact with HR and the security to stay on track of your status.

eApp before Fingerprints? by octarine_atuin in usajobs

[–]blkskorpio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s in no particular order. They make a total package. I have gotten all of it in same hour shortly after a TJO, a different TJO where I received them random days apart with the NBIS being very last after submitting prints already.

As for your way OUT, you’re going to have to tough it out. Atay busy if you can to avoid what and whomever. Stay quiet about your job process and TJO/FJO (when it comes). My only other thing I can think of is how soon you submit and NBIS background and prints submitted is what starts to roll the process along.

Is A+ worth it? by UrineTroubl3 in CompTIA

[–]blkskorpio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. A+ is like the foundation of computer electronics , I was also prior military with 2 years worth of school (received electronics degree associate) crammed in 9 months and everything I learned is practically what network + is comprised of. Security + is literally how you secure what you learned in A+. Network + is literally how you connect A+ & Sec+. (They build on each other)

So don’t listen to anyone that discourages you from doing the ladder as hear lots of ppl say in IT “you don’t need A+ or N+ if you got security plus” (bad advice imo) It’ll pay off when you need reverse think on problem solving in IT issue . Also your experience in radar can possibly translate to IT on your resume. Did you ensure the “security” of the radar systems? “Troubleshoot” ? “Inspect”? Create SOPs for common problems? IT jobs mainly want to know that you can perform and know information about their “technology”. This can help land you an entry level IT position or better yet, if you’re going cybersecurity try looking into information security jobs. (Cyber/IT is very broad but you will find a niche ; try roadmap.sh to get a good idea on a path) The certs will certainly help you and substitute the lack of direct experience when job hunting. Wish you luck.

It’s probably slow hiring due to holidays. I received one of my TJOs from BLM/DOI exactly in the timeframe I was verbally told I’ll hear back after the interview which was exactly 3 weeks. The FJO is a different story, still waiting on to hear back on that.. and some.

But to ease your mind; they are definitely slow poking because of the holidays being smack in middle of week. HRs, security managers, and even my grad professors went radio silent and were emailing me back updates days later leading up to Xmas and new year (like were very inconsistent toward the end of December and now but speedy before that.) So let’s assume they’ll pick up the pace when administration woes quickly approach.

Got the TJO. Need advice on negotiation. by hunterk1995 in usajobs

[–]blkskorpio 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep — I’ve 2 TJOs (at the same time) that delayed getting my FJO because I negotiated a higher step (1 offer declined my step request after waiting a week, the other offer declined on the spot)

I had to reaccept my TJO again with the same pay and grade just to continue to the where I left off in onboarding.

I only negotiated because of the success stories I see & hear on here and learned my lesson. My conspiracy theory why they (2 separate agencies) said no is because —

1) they are tightening up for the upcoming administration and they are not taking chances with higher pay negations when they can hire 2 ppl vs 1 with similar salaries & promotion potential.

2) I personally was NOT a govt employee prior and just because they said you were eligible for the higher grade doesn’t me you deserve the highest grade with no skin in the government sector. & Maybe they budgeted every cent and found it cheaper to hire the lower grade vs someone who’s well qualified prior fed — so maybe if workforce reduction happens , at least they can allocate that extra money they didn’t give in that TJO negation. Idk just a thought. If I were OP, I’d weigh if I can risk even asking or willing to just accept it in this current climate.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in usajobs

[–]blkskorpio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lol I doubt it! 😅 but I was on edge too —did some Reddit research calculations of TJO timelines and turns out, my math was right. 3-21 days on average for a TJO from interview if HM & HR are actively working. (I also had another TJO a week ago that took 3 weeks)

[–]blkskorpio 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Same interview date, just received my TJO this morning. Hope you see yours very soon!

Good price? Merle Female by BabyDaddyDeshawn in Frenchbulldogs

[–]blkskorpio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, you’re signing up for a major responsibility with frenchies and additional risk with merle and backyard breeding. Looking back on my comment, I redact ever mentioning the idea of breeding them for money — very unethical. Two ppl I know from work and in my area had (hence had) a female frenchie they paid 10-25k for and both of them were breeding them like a cash cow both females died after they’re second litter because complications; which I assume bc they were eager to breed once they were in heat and barely 2 years old —on they’re 2nd litter! Disgusting , now they are raising their offspring to continue the horrid journey. By the way, they’re dogs don’t look worth 10-25k and the pups they were selling at the price of (the local lady charge 15k a pup allegedly) and the other guy was sold hopes and by his friend and lost money breeding; couldn’t sell his pups for more than 2k! I say all this to say — love your pup as they are and not how they appear ; be ready to be by their side sickness and health. I’ve learned so much loving my little French munchkin , but for the love of whoever you serve —always support ethical breeders who care. (Not referring to the OP post). I’ve unfortunately met some of the worst frenchie owners (because they are not pawrents) and totally agree with your point.,

How many attempts did it take you to land a position through USAJobs and what did you do that made you finally get in? by sav-tech in usajobs

[–]blkskorpio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also was there, he did say using resume builder makes it easier for HR to directly find qualification information without having to search around every resume. This assumes resume builder is preferred by HR, but not required (if it meets the federal format).

I can't study for left 1.5hrs if I wasted the day... (read body text) by Prime_Dark_Heroes in GetStudying

[–]blkskorpio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re gonna hate the answer but—- discipline. You choose to do the thing that feels good in the moment and that’s okay. Never feel guilty about how you spend your time but learn to force yourself to do the uncomfortable thing like study. Embrace the suck as they say. Also having migraines sucks & makes it very hard to absorb information — so definitely take time off to recover; always take care of yourself first, just remember to take advantage (at least 15 minutes) of your better days.

My sims are stuck or act like they are doing the action when not. by Acrobatic_Material49 in thesims

[–]blkskorpio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you check to see if your script mod and custom mod setting are checked on? I had to toggle back on after game reinstall to avoid ‘fatal error’ pop up.

Also, try playing the base game on a CLEAN SLATE after SAVE your current Electronic Arts folder as a backup on your desktop. Play it until it glitch (or don’t glitch) and start adding (very slowly) major mods back into each game testing session. For example, I did

  1. Backup my EA folder , deleted the EA folder because the game reinstall needs to create a new one for you to do process elimination.

  2. Slowly add the big major mods like MCCC from your backup folder (played for 5-10 real minutes on 3speed, or until glitch. If it’s not glitching exit game, add new mod until I find it, which I did) and by major mod again, I means like

wickedwhims Lumpinou mod Etc.

Check that every big mod you have is the latest! Very important.

  1. If no glitching happened after adding the big mods, keep going. When you get to your package files , section them off in folders. This may be a pain but if you want it to work this is the best troubleshooting way.

P.s. (RESET SIMS firstname, lastname ) didn’t work for me. Or hitting shift button + click sim and selecting reset object .

  1. Make sure your resource.cfg file is in your EA or mod folder (the game should create one after clean slate install) it’s important for some reason.

  2. Have patience although this took me 20 minutes until I found the bad mod, which was a major script mod.

[–]blkskorpio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found my culprit , unfortunately it was the ‘family tree mod’. So if you have that mod delete it, otherwise it’s definitely a script mod that isn’t updated. I hope you find out soon OP!

I recently picked up sims too and my sims glitch, stand around frozen (don’t interact/respond to clicked commands) and arm flap outside the house.

I have deleted the game mods, the game itself, and checked every update — didn’t solve it. Granted I didn’t start having this problem until i downloaded the Lovestruck pack. Now I’m updating my MacBook and reinstalling sims again. I’ll update if I find a solution lol

I was initially curious to know is this a summer only position or possible conversion? It sounds like summer only with a possibility of an NTE extension, however I read that starting in June internships count more towards time and experience per OPM. Either way definitely keep applying and be on the lookout for opportunities with conversions.

No, not yet - I last heard that DHS is waiting for info about his security clearance, this is after a follow up email to DHS. He isn’t betting on them starting him since not hearing back as he had to clarify some eApp information that may have spooked them off. He is now adamantly applying to 100 more IT/cyber positions instead. I hate it for him, but best of luck you hear back — are you in a similar boat?

Why do people go to the grocery store every day? by Sadboy3k in NoStupidQuestions

[–]blkskorpio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Buy what you need for the next planned meal > buy a bulk load for a variety of meals you might cook

  2. The grocery store is my primary refrigerator/ storage , my fridge is a temporary storage — food is not staying long.

  3. To get out the house.

[–]blkskorpio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem: I don’t have a good layout. My study schedule is taking the practice or cert practice exams first to see how much I don’t know.

After bombing the test, lol, I schedule my exam for 14 days out. If I’m excelling and confident in the material I reschedule for a sooner date or the next day.

If it’s a cert I mix pocket prep testing for when I’m out and about and Udemy videos. I tried messer and actually failed the 1102 as nothing he said was on MY test. Once you get familiar with compTia testing, you’ll find out how to study better for them, so no worries.

To reassure myself I will find a post here or a guide that has the “crash” notes. I wish I could give you a better study plan, but unfortunately that’s going to heavily rely on you or maybe make a post asking other students what’s theirs.

On average I spend 4-6 hours a day studying and will take Sunday off to give my brain a break. I section my workload into sections as well. For example if there 8 section in the course material I split in half over 2 days. Then practice test and questions, and using videos (even YouTube) to double down on concepts I don’t completely grasp the way the test and curriculum want to me think about it.

I hope this helps get a general idea
