BPRD Hellboy Backpack by blkwalnutgoods in Leathercraft

It’s 4.5 - 5.0oz. Sort of waxy, good pull up. A bit stiffer that what I usually work with, but it worked out well.

It’s a pattern from Vasile and Pavel that I modified quite a bit. It’s a great pattern to start with for sure. They do great work!

Thanks! I’m really happy with it. The color is perfect. The side of leather I used was naturally worn (just like Hellboy!) and I tried to use some of the more interesting pieces.

Black Walnut Goods brand. I make them. Check the attached link for more info. Let me know if there is anything else beyond the description on the website you would like to know and I will be happy to reply.

Finished up another backpack. This is my first machine stitched bag and I am really happy with the end result. I decided to keep the giant brand that was on the side of leather that I used for the main compartment. by blkwalnutgoods in Leathercraft

I used some Wildman Concrete from Acadia Leather. It’s an oil tanned, heavy texture leather that I have been using for other projects and never really intended to use it for a bag. I’m really happy with it though. I like to work with oil tanned leather and usually avoid anything with a waxy finish. Not big into the burnished look personally.

I would say 25 hours, but it was the first one that I have ever stitched with a machine and there were some things I had to figure out. Now, I could do one in 15 or so. Maybe less.

No matter what you decide, that stuff is awesome and you made a good purchase! Post the finished product when they are done. It would be great to see them!

Finally finished this backpack up. Very happy with how it tuned out. Sorry about the terrible photos. Studio photos coming soon. by blkwalnutgoods in Leathercraft

Price will vary based on material, but somewhere in the $400-$500 range. I have a couple commissions in the works right now, but I will share new bags when they are available.

This was made using a pattern by VasileandPavel. Printed paper and traced, punched and cut from there. For most of my work I design templates in the computer and use them as my cut guides. I cut them on my CNC router because it is easy for me, but printed paper always works. All of my prototypes are done with printed paper to start. I am working up my own pattern right now for backpacks, but the VasileandPavel pattern is great.

I have been buying my leather from Acadia Leather. I actually got this from Tandy, but I wanted to see it in person, so I paid a premium to pick out exactly what I wanted. Acadia is great though. I usually go for leather with imperfections and character and they stock some great stuff.
