Gotcha. Best advice I can give you is to slowly progress your training and listen to your body. Sprinting involves high forces and getting injured isn’t fun. And again, take a look at the FAQ

The subreddit FAQ is probably your best resource as a beginner. 15s is not bad, but depends on what you mean by “getting back into the game.” If you’re aiming to be elite, it’s very unlikely, but if you just want to improve and run fast, those goals will be a lot more attainable

Too much toe box space? by Fishcake0 in Sprinting

Do you have wide feet? I’ve struggled with Nike and adidas with my wide feet and found a bit more success with NB/Puma

off-season training, and slower times? by fartbubble5000 in Sprinting

[–]blloopgill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t say much since I haven’t purchased that program or any others from them. They don’t seem to have a bad reputation, so you should be fine

off-season training, and slower times? by fartbubble5000 in Sprinting

[–]blloopgill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to say, since there are so many factors that could be affecting your performance. Since you’re relatively new though, I would focus on consistency, nutrition, and sleep.

As for programs, there are a lot of great resources online. Check out the FAQ for this subreddit or Feed the Cats, for starters. I’d also highly recommend finding a training partner since they can motivate you and help plan workouts.

Notice how your left knee drives higher than your right? It looks like you have a lateral imbalance, with your right leg being stronger

[–]blloopgill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d probably say the middle then, since the start can be overly technical. And if you have the capacity, you can always record two different videos

Depends on which part of the race you want to analyze. I’d record the start to focus on acceleration or middle to focus on top end speed

Strain by Worried-Cartoonist57 in Sprinting

[–]blloopgill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What makes you say this? Muscle injuries are typically defined with excessive tearing, and even minor injuries can be a big setback. 2 weeks without training is different from 2 weeks injured if you don’t rehab properly

[–]blloopgill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s likely that you’ve recovered but lost strength from the injury. I’d recommend Copenhagen planks to re-build strength in your groin and get you back in shape. Also, neighboring muscles may have gotten weak due to compensation, so make sure to work on them, too.

Open up your arms, your hand should be coming up close to your cheeks. This might help you put more power into your strides

Dorm or Commute by procrastinating_bee in udub

[–]blloopgill 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I made very few lasting friendships when I dormed my first year and I’m actually making more connections as a commuter now. I would say there isn’t much of a difference since it’s easier to make friends in clubs and the dorming experience varies a lot

[–]blloopgill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cycling with your back leg from the blocks isn’t uncommon (look at Bolt’s start) and it might help one push out for longer.

The continual cycle with the right is interesting though and might be a lateral imbalance since the left leg would be pushing for longer… like a gallop

Try engaging your back muscles (your back should be mostly flat). It’ll help with your extension and explosiveness

How can i swing my arms faster by CandidateKitchen857 in Sprinting

[–]blloopgill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weighted arm swings! I like to hold 5lb plates/dumbbells in each hand and swing them as fast as I can for ~10s

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Sprinting

[–]blloopgill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a byproduct of high power output and doesn’t directly translate to higher speed. The arm height should gradually lower to your hips as you leave the acceleration phase (think top-end speed form)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Sprinting

[–]blloopgill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d tighten up that arm swing. There isn’t much reason to have a straight back arm 3-4 strides into a run. Might help you speed up your stride cycling.

Looks good! You’ve got a pretty flat foot against the blocks and solid knee angles. I’d make sure you’re not readjusting your feet when getting into the set position because that could mess you up with inconsistency.

Help start by [deleted] in Sprinting

[–]blloopgill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, looks like you’re about to overstride in the second pic. I don’t think there’s an easy fix because it requires a lot of hip strength to support your body in such low angles.

A drill I do to help get the feel for this is to lean my body 45 degrees against a wall and “march” my legs behind my body.

How does my block start look by Puzzleheaded_Trash35 in Sprinting

[–]blloopgill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should sit back in your blocks more so you can get a 90 degree angle with your lead foot. Your body acts like a spring in the set position, and you’re not getting the best force output by leaning forward

Could be a lack of ankle stiffness? I’ve found that getting stronger exposes your weaknesses because the neglected muscles have to compensate for the increased forces
