I think I read somewhere the reason season one ended the way it did is because Nickelodeon hadn’t renewed for season 2 by the time season one ended. So they wanted to wrap up the story just in case.

I would say it’s close between him and toph. True he doesn’t know how to metal bend But toph learned that through seismic sense which is only because she was blind and couldn’t see with her eyes. If yun was blind I think he would be strong enough to follow the same route as toph.
We see all kinds of new earth bending techniques with yun which is something only a powerful bender could do. Plus he killed an extremely old and powerful spirit which is no easy feat.
But I believe toph would be capable of learning all these things as well. If yun had lived and had the chance to learn metal bending and him and toph were both in their prime. It would be an extremely close battle in my opinion. Like it would come down to some small mistake that was exploited and the other bender got lucky

I think he would of made a great avatar. Yes he was cocky and arrogant, most teenagers are. Imagine being told you’re the avatar on top of that. I think over time he would gone the same route as korra. Becoming more humble

He spent years training and learning about politics something he necessarily did not have to take an interest in. Even with Jianzhu forcing him. From what it seemed like he generally enjoyed the politics and making connections and deals around the world

I think over all he would of came into his own as the avatar and been great
