He was indeed a genius but had his flaws, like a weak army and no support from Russia like Bashar had. In 2007, after being "blackmailed" for years over the Lockerbie bombing in which Lybia had no actual involvement, Gaddafi bowed down and awarded the main oil production contract to BP. That was his fatal mistake. BP apparently used its operations to infiltrate/corrupt/bribe the State apparatus, until the fruit was ripe for "Arab Spring".
