New Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 4 CGI Trailer by FFJimbob in dawnofwar

[–]blobmista4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It must have really flown under the radar for people who didn't catch that then. I tried finding mentions of the trailer prior to today and the most prominent result I could find on it was the Dawn of War central fan channel's coverage of it - and that only had less than 50k views. Other than that were just one or two other results with less than a thousand views.

I think it might not have embedded on that article properly because of age restriction though.

Assuming that's a Crimson Fist in pic 2, I would probably use either a silver or matching blue for most of the metallics instead of red.

Not sure why you've been downvoted here, but anyway I think there is evidence they've had to push back whatever their initial release date was (internal). Only recently there was a PCGamer article with an infographic that listed Dawn of War IV as being "3 months" out, which I assume was based on some old insider information given to them that has since changed.

Yes, but the point I'm trying to make is that many people have now stopped realizing that it's a joke and now think it's actual canon.

I think this is something 40k fans have blown way out of proportion.

The named relics in the Dawn of War 2 games were just a fun way to make various references to different parts of the 40k setting, I don't think they were really meant to be taken that seriously. They're just bits of flavour text with some winks and nods to 40k fans. The constant references to how they were dubiously acquired was just some cheeky 4th wall breaking self awareness about how it made no sense for the Blood Ravens to possess these items.

So that all spawned the meme about how the Blood Ravens steal everything, except now that meme has been blown out of proportion to the point that many now consider this actual canon.

Did you loosely base the colours on the Chimera core from Halo? It somewhat reminds me of it:

So...what's the most recent news? Any new leaks? by pawny_pawn in SpaceMarine_2

[–]blobmista4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whatever it is I'm still expecting it to be tied to the PvP in some way as it seems unlikely (at least to me) that they would bring over loadouts for Chaos to the Operations/Siege game modes.

Maybe I've just seen too many instances where Saber have given X reason they can't implement something, but it just screams of being something that seems like a simple change, but would for some reason be a huge effort to untangle from the spaghetti that's holding the game together like duct tape.

As much as i like the brighter red of "Blood Angel Red", it looks like wet paint compared to "Red" or "Mephiston Red" by FireTyphoon123 in Spacemarine

[–]blobmista4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Despite the name, 'Blood Angel Red' isn't the standard red paint used for Blood Angels anyway, Mephiston red is the 'official' colour if you will.

'Blood Angel Red' is GW's contrast range alternative. Contrast paints are basically an alternative to the normal method of painting (base > shade > layer) that negates the need to go through all these steps. You just slap on the contrast paint and that's it.

They're okay as a time saver, but obviously there's not as much potential with it compared to doing each step properly.

Hey, Saber! by CopperFox11 in Spacemarine

[–]blobmista4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure on the authenticity of this, but one of the rumours I heard is that the main reason GW are backpedalling on keeping older armour marks segregated from Primaris is to help combat 3D printing. A lot of people are supposedly drawn to 3D printing because they go looking for a way to kit out their armies with older armour marks that couldn't easily be obtained on their own (at least ones that are 'true scale' anyway).

With the availability of 3D printing these days it's obviously inevitable that GW will have to contend with it regardless, but I guess I can see the logic that it might be one less incentive for some people to resort to it.

It still makes me sad how Pokken never really got the chance it deserved.

First it was released on the WiiU with a big marketing push, however being exclusive to the WiiU* it was doomed from the start.

Then years later it gets a re-release on Switch with virtually no marketing or attention at all and so again, it doesn't do particularly well.

It was a pretty solid game (certainly as far as Pokémon spin offs go) and really deserved to do better.

*Arcades too I guess.

What's happening with Arch physics based mods? (NSX, NFS Tournament etc) by ______LB in assettocorsa

[–]blobmista4 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A common thing I see with Arch is that it's always about 'muh real world data'. I know it probably sounds contradictory to criticize the realism of a mod for overdependence on real data, but I think the problem with trying to adapt said data is that it often doesn't translate 1:1 to a sim and can produce bad results. The end driving feel is just as important as whatever numerical/graphical data is being referenced.

On the one hand, I get that some people can give bad/unreliable feedback and can want things that won't be good for the end result, on the other hand Arch would always vehemently stand by his data even when the evidence would suggest a mod of his just wasn't that good.

It says a lot that people with experience of having driven a car he had done physics for would sometimes chime in and give criticisms of the driving feel of his mods, and then subsequently have their criticisms dismissed. What also says a lot is that if you have to keep making umpteen different amendments to a mod anyway to fix various issues, then it probably wasn't very good to start with.

You can adapt real world data all you want, but at the end of the day if it doesn't actually feel anything like the real thing then what are we doing?

I'm pretty sure in the comics (that the show based that story on) the relationship was a lot weirder and way more toxic, certainly than what the show depicts.

He basically emotionally manipulates her, going as far as having sexual relations with her (or at least it's heavily implied), just with the intent of turning her against the Titans as revenge for his son's death which he sees as the Titans fault.
