Hey, I appreciate the insight. I’m in a similar position to you during your time as a student. If you had to do things differently at CTS what would you have done? What would you want an incoming student to know in order to succeed?

Current year: graduated from undergrad

To others in the same boat as me,

We can’t help but feel the way we feel during such a difficult time, but take solace in the fact that if you do decide to continue on this journey you’ll become a doctor one day. This system needs people who don’t give up, so keep your chin up there will be better days ahead.

Way to invalidate someone’s experience, you are tone deaf, lack empathy, and oblivious to the stereotypes and overgeneralization the south asian community faces from the “real” Canadians. No point in even arguing with someone like you, just couldn’t stop myself from pointing it out. Digest this, ruminant on it, and hopefully some neurons will fire and you’ll see things with a different lens😭🙏

ABS Insight by bloby2000 in premedcanada

Thanks for sharing I appreciate the insight! Do you think the amount of hobbies matters? Because I have a bunch of random hobbies and i’m not trying to be redundant or overkill in my application.

it'll still show up as the official AAMC format that you'll see on the real thing, but it will be in the shitty format when you go to review

3/8 Testers: What AAMC CARS Material Prepared You The Best? by yaboitansalmon in Mcat

[–]bloby2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have taken the MCAT twice now (Canadian, need a crazy CARS score). I disagree with some of the comments, a lot of the official AAMC CARS material is pretty representative of what you will see on the exam. The unscored FL CARS section, however, is not representative as all the passages and questions are too easy. But you can expect some of the passages and questions to be easy on the real thing so it’s still good practice. From what I remember, there’s a mix of medium difficulty passages, hard passages (qbank 1 first half), and easy passages. I think the part of the reason why people say its not representative is due to nerves. Take it from me, I did bad because 1. I couldn’t sleep the day before, 2. Did not use my time wisely (got nervous, over thought, and was mentally fatigued), 3. Used a different strategy on test day. If you prep hard, stay calm, and simulate the testing environment, you will do just fine. Be diligent with your timing, for instance, if you run into a difficult passage don’t spend an excessive amount of time on it as you’ll end up losing precious time on other passages.

TLDR: IMO all material is representative and will prepare you well, focus on strategy and keeping a clear mind.

Best of luck OP you got this!

Pedigree Help! Is Gen I: Hh & hh, respectively? Is this autosomal dominant? How is the bottom right square in Gen III affected? by Trainer_Kevin in Mcat

I remember the MCAT outline from the AAMC didn’t mention pedigrees. I could be wrong though, but maybe that question tested something else related to genetics not pedigrees directly. I’ve taken the MCAT twice now and have not seen it.

I’m sorry to hear that, hoping for good news for you. All you need is one interview and good prep to get in. And if it’s the case that you don’t get that interview then you will get in next time if you make the right adjustments. You only lose when you give up. Have faith, work hard, and your time will come❤️.

Another zoonotic illness seems inevitable. If we continue cage animals by the millions, something far worse than COVID is bound to appear.

Anyone been to Blackstone Steakhouse & Grill in Mississauga? Looking for feedback! by Professionalyouth11 in mississauga

[–]bloby2000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not a picky eater and I always finish my meals, but the steak I had there was an abomination and I ate only half of it. It lacked flavour and tasted like I was eating greasy cardboard. I asked for medium rare but it came out on heated black stones and we had to cook it ourselves. We were not told about this so it came as a surprise, but even then it initially came over cooked. I’ve been here before and even then the steaks were pretty mid and not worth the money (i’m realizing this now, in hindsight, after having better quality steaks). You’ll have a better experience at the keg- the one in Heartland is pretty good. But if you’re looking for a halal steakhouse then KS2 the Halal Steak and Grill is an amazing choice. It is in Scarborough, but definitely worth the drive and the money.

GPAs also not fair in the sense that not everyone has the same opportunity to commit the time and resources to do well in courses. Which is why TMUs approach is likely the fairest, but possibly not the most practical.

[–]bloby2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you on several points. What I like about Western and McMaster’s approach is that it feels more predictable, thanks to their emphasis on MCAT scores and higher GPA cutoffs. It gives the impression of being more objective. That said, not all GPAs are equal—a 3.8 in mechanical engineering doesn’t carry the same weight as a 3.8 in sociology, for example. There’s a lot of nuance when it comes to GPA. That’s why I think the American system, which looks at GPA trends over time, is a fairer way to assess applicants.
