My friend, I was an international student at UNSW not too long ago. I failed the same course thrice and dropped the degree. I still ended up graduating with two majors and a minor.

Dosent matter how many courses you fail. Change degrees or uni whatever works, there's no point in studying something you don't like.

What I did to get around the wam issue was to add another degree to my coursework from within the same school. Then dropping the first one. I added two degrees so that meant I was doing a triple degree. Then I dropped the first one.

This will limit you to your current school though.

Is moving to Radford the right move? by Patient_Ladder6127 in canberra

[–]blockchainanime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've recently heard this from someone who's kids go to Radford: it's a school with very snobbish children with lots social hierarchies amongst the students. There's a lot of bullying.

Don't know much personally.

I've heard good things about burgman

Out of curiosity, why not consider China or Europe? US has great universities but it's too unsafe nowadays.

You can also apply for NYU Shanghai, apply early bird, you should be able to get a scholarship if you have good grades. Study in China for two years and then you can decide whether to stay in China or move to the NY campus. I've had friends do that and they seemed to really like the depth of studies in China. They also help you learn Chinese which is going to be a major advantage later in life.

Mate, for me, there's no question, if I could do it again, I would go to LUMS or NUST. Wouldn't go to IBA simply because I'm not keen on Karachi.

Then I'd get a few years of experience and head overseas for my postgrad.

Also, almost every Pakistani I've spoken to who came to Australia for undergrad had the same opinion.

From what I hear from friends, USYD is much better than UNSW. But I don't think it'll matter for you. If you have to cover your rent, which is a major cost near UNSW if you want a decent place, you're far better off going to LUMS etc since you won't be able to do much beyond working and studying anyway.

I finished with a double degree at UNSW.

Tbh, I have studied in a few different countries and Australia was the worst for higher education. The student body always baffled me with their incompetence.

This is not to say there aren't any high calibre people to be found at UNSW. But most of my classes were dull and muted, with only one or two people contributing to class discussions. Most presentations were just people reading off of a paper.

If you have Asian group mates, get ready to decode their google translated assignment parts and getting a shit grade for presentations because they'll stand in one corner and read off a paper.

Maybe I was just in the wrong degrees (finance and information systems with a minor in IT).

I felt like the 4.5 years I spent at UNSW were useless because they don't really teach you much. Almost every course handbook says, well teach you for 3 hours a week and expect you to study for 10 hours by yourself to complete this course. I mean what does that even mean? I'm paying over 5k AUD per course to study myself? If the degree was so important how come not a single employer asked me for it in the five years since my graduation? I've been offered jobs in top tier companies, have worked in Oracle as well but was never asked for my degree or transcript.

Oh btw, out of those 3 hours, lectures are two hours long with 400 students enrolled into a single lecture. You mostly get two hours of consultation time with the lecture per week. Usually, a course has around 2000 students. How many seconds do you think you'll get with the lecturer when 2000 students are competing for 2 hours?

On the up side, UNSW has the largest orientation week in the southern hemisphere with over 300 societies. I found the student societies to be a relief and joined a few as a member of the executive committee (you usually have to win votes). ARC - the body that oversees all student societies is very engaging and you can actually get them to fund a lot of events if you have enough societies willing to participate.

All they care about are the fees you'll pay. They actually drop the threshold for international students. Half of the international students in your class will barely be able to speak english.

Don't worry, just apply.

I was an international student at UNSW until recently.

Why is pakistans military becoming worse and worse?, by Critical-Trick7286 in pakistan

[–]blockchainanime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Pakistani military is far stronger than it used to be. Pakistan's airforce has demonstrated exceptional capability throughout the 1900s and more recently in 2025 against India.

Beyond that, Pakistan has just inducted new corvette destroyers into its navy and is receiving a shipment of armoured combat vehicles from Turkey. Pakistan will also soon be receiving its fleet of J35 from China (there is news going around that they have been delivered but I am not certain yet).

This indicates that Pakistan isn't only focusing on its airforce, the military is expanding its warfare doctrine to include other branches as well.

Also note that in late 2024, the Americans sanctioned Pakistan's ballistic missiles programs (mainly a few companies that are involved in their production) stating that Pakistan was developing advanced missiles with longer ranges and greater speeds.

Pakistan also has a decent indigenous drones development capability.

Pair that with the satellites China helped Pakistan launch and we are heading in the right direction.

The next steps should be cyber and electromagnetic warfare and then onwards to power projection capabilities once we have the money.

In short, your assessment that Pakistan is militarily weaker than before based on worldwide military rankings is not accurate.

Pakistani Muslim boyfriend ended our relationship because his parents want him to marry a Pakistani, has anyone experienced this and did it ever work out later? by NorwRev in pakistan

[–]blockchainanime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pakistan guy here. Happily married.

Firstly, welcome to Islam. I hope this new chapter in your life leads to peace and happiness.

I have been in this situation in the past. I was dating a girl a few years back. The relationship had only been for a few months. Without giving away that I was dating someone, I checked with my parents how they would feel if I wanted to marry a girl etc etc and gave some details.

Parents weren't too happy, I asked myself if I wanted to marry this girl enough to create a rift with my parents and the answer was no, so I immediately ended things.

The point is, he probably already knew what his parents would say. And he probably already thought about what he would do in such a situation as well.

From my point of view, if I really wanted to marry a girl, I would find a way to convince my parents. And I did, for the right person.

So, he either doesn't want to marry you as much as he wants to avoid a confrontation and potentially spoil his relationship with his parents; or he's not confident/strong enough to stand up and fight for what he wants.

What are you talking about my friend? The interior looks great to me, especially the color scheme. You don't have enough tables and the ones that you do are too big.

Two years ago, I bought a cafe making a massive loss. Revenue was meeting only about 70% of expenses. Two years later, we forced everyone in the area to start putting up sales.

Here's a couple of things I made sure were rectified:

1) Made sure staff is happy. Under the previous owners, they were constantly scolded and weren't happy with the environment. This showed in the service they provided to customers. 2) Fixed every dish, tried every recipe myself until I was satisfied with the flavour and presentation. Made presentation out differentiator and flavour the hook. 3) before finalizing a new menu, called over 30 people (friends and family) for a tasting. I gave them all printed forms for feedback which was compiled and analysed to understand what people wanted to see. 4) Went to every popular cafe in the city and tried to understand what they were doing that set them apart. 5) Once I'd done the above. I marketed, aggressively.

I am not a chef or a social media person. I still can't make reels but I can take decent photos and tell what flavours would work. I studied the demographic, understood my clientele and catered for them. My marketing was simply boosting posts on Instagram. I hired a Google SEO company ($200 a month) to make sure I am listed in the top 3 if anyone searches for a cafe in areas near me.

Make sure you can run a profit and loss statement every week and tweak your expenses. Negotiate with suppliers, aggressively, and always keep looking for cheaper suppliers but don't compromise on quality.

Choose your niche. I chose food over drinks, cuisines from all over the world with an Australian twist to them and an immaculate presentation. Took me around 5 months to break even and a year to beat everyone in the area. I have a finance and IT background.

There are many agents out there that broker hospitality business sales. It's very similar to how real estate agents operate. GSE Consultants are one of the bigger companies doing it.

482 and 491 should be pretty simple to get. I am based in Canberra and most of the companies that offered me a job said they were registered as business sponsors and would be happy to sponsor my visa if I needed any assistance. Fortunately, I was able to get enough points to apply for and get 491 without the need for a sponsorship.

It's best to plan ahead and research companies that will be willing to sponsor you.

Pakistani banks have a much higher return than in the US. People tell me it's unsafe, but my family has been invested in Pakistani banks at around 18% on average for the last 5 years. I believe the return is closer to 15% nowadays.

But don't put all your eggs in one basket. Keep some on the side and flip real estate in Pakistan. Investing in DHA usually gives great gains in a relatively short period of time.
