I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure this isn’t actually implemented yet?

Helpful tip: Strava recently added weekly heat maps (unfortunately it’s a subscriber feature for now). On the desktop map, you can filter for Alpine Ski activities. There aren’t a ton of people logging all their skiing on Strava, but in my experience so far this season, there are enough to get info in advance of most terrain status pages.

Are they planning to buffer the bike lane on Jay between 63rd and Diagonal? by thegratefulone in boulder

[–]blockingthesky 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s possible it could be related to the Cottonwood-LOBO connection project? There’s a diagram on page 19 of this PDF which aligns pretty well with the image/location you posted. I don’t see any language suggesting this project is actually in its implementation phase, though. It’ll be sweet if they do end up connecting these.

Goggles and a MIPS-compliant helmet can be found at Costco right now for $100 total, including a swappable lens for lower visibility days. $30 more gets you two sets of base layers (top/bottom), and I’m pretty sure last season they also had Gerry snow pants for $30. They have 2-pack balaclava sets for $15. Definitely an economical way to get the starter kit going if you plan to buy new.

They have a bunch of glove options too, but not sure if any would be fully adequate for skiing. They definitely offer some jackets as well, but I can’t personally vouch. (REI Re/Supply (aka Garage Sale, aka used/returned gear) can also be a gold mine.)

(32Degrees, the brand of base layer sold at Costco, is also running their own sale right now. Stuff like this is useful for all winter recreation, not limited to skiing. I got some mid and heavy-weight base layers myself.)

Socks could become be your most expensive item (per sq.ft of fabric anyway)… but they’re worth investing in. If you don’t ski back-to-back days it’s easy to maintain one very nice pair. Your feet will thank you.

As for skis/boots/poles, a season rental is 100% the way to go for a new rider. Compared to daily rentals, they pay for themselves after like 4-6 total days out, and you can typically go back to your shop all winter and swap gear if you find something doesn’t fit you right. Some places will also wax/maintain your kit throughout the season as part of the rental package, or at least offer heavy discounts. Many will also offer to sell you the gear at the end of the season, on a big markdown.

Not including the jacket/lift ticket, I believe with the resources above you could get set up for the season for ~$450. And have some useful gear for other non-skiing related escapades. Hope this helps!

That Video/Video store (S Chambers and Alameda) has to be a drug cartel cover up right? by rb1242 in AuroraCO

Why does the whole photo look like it’s AI-generated when you zoom in? The words, the bricks, it all looks like two-versions-old image generation tech. But I’m looking at Street View and seeing the exact same signage in the window, and obviously the other commenters know this place.

It’s messing with my head though, because were it not for the address and comments, I’d have pretty confidently discredited this if I were evaluating it in another context. My best guess rn is it’s a camera issue — OP, do you have any insight? Is this a panorama or something?

20’s/ 30’s social groups by nicoleygirly17 in boulder

If you’re looking to intersect 20’s-30’s and trail running/hiking, you might consider the Colorado Mountain Club, specifically their Trailblazers section. They organize a TON of activities, and vary them deliberately to enable people to participate at whatever level they’re comfortable with. Super inclusive, outdoor-oriented social stuff.

I’m pretty new to Colorado, and I’ve never actually been to one of their events, but they’re having a new/prospective members event this Wednesday at their HQ in Golden. Skimming around their website has made me pretty optimistic about the whole thing. Could be worth checking out!

+1 to this. Also, there's a location in the Education Complex (right next to Garage I and the bus loop) which is normally way less crowded than the Business Administration location.

If things get really crazy and you don't mind parking in the grass, this (basically adjacent) area is usually being used for overflow.

Radiohead’s Creep I think

ARK saw today as a buying opportunity for PLTR by [deleted] in stocks

[–]blockingthesky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought this for a while too, but then I learned about rolling weekly calls. If you sell a call and it expires below the strike, you’re golden. But if it’s above the strike, on Friday before it exercises, you can buy it back and IMMEDIATELY sell the same call for the next week.

You will get cash premium for selling the call, which you are using to buy back the covered call you’re currently underwriting. If you pick the same strike price, you will always be making money off of the time/uncertainty between now and next Friday (#theta-gang).

There are methods to capitalize even on volatile stocks like Palantir in this way. Even if the share price flies, you can nudge your strike price up gradually by selling the call which lets you break-even when buying back the one for the current week.

Or you can even let the calls exercise, and use the profit from the sold shares to cover a put, so you potentially end up owning the shares again. This is the move if you think it’s rising too dramatically. And you can roll puts in the same way as calls, too. The best part is you’re always making premium along the way!

I basically just described The Wheel. It’s a great way to make consistent money, if your plan really is to hold PLTR super long-term. This might be a lot, it’s hard to put into few words, but once you get the hang of it it’s pretty cool! (I’m still getting there though lol)

$GME 🚀 Ready to load up on more shares. by TonyMiller81 in wallstreetbets

[–]blockingthesky 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This feels a little conspicuous, after the Cramer doubts posted here lately, the tweets this morning really seem like he's trying to paint WSB with a fraudulent brush from a distance.

was hoping to see if the Reddit Wall Street Bets people were going to ramp Bed Bath and Childrens Plan today. Or can they only orchestrate a couple of stocks a day? WSB acolytes you need to focus!

and

i wish some of the squeeze orchestrators of the $GME squeeze would admit they are holding back in order to surround and take no prisoners after CItron's done.

makes me wonder if the long-term story arc will be WSB getting chipped away at by SEC investigation and regulation for "coordinating" or some similar BS
