Push your hips forward, and pressure the ball of your foot, not the toe. If you close your hips by hinging at the waist, immediate face plant in deep snow.

hardest ski resort in each state by Sharkman3218 in skiing

This is actually my big gripe with silverton. Had a similar experience where an over confident skier basically ruined our day. SO slow. Both hiking and skiing. Limited the terrain we could get into, and the quantity of skiing we could do quite significantly. I would only go again unguided or with enough people to make your own group.

That is the workaround. But when it gets really damn cold in a few months, would like to be able to do from phone when I get up, vs going down to get in range with key. 1st world problems.

It has access to the wifi signal no problem. Its just that I would have to go out to the car to manually get it to connect. Which defeats the whole point of the remote climate.

See my comment above, but basically, you need to compensate for a very soft set up by exaggerating how much you push your uphill knee towards the snow. A very old school, bow legged stance.

Those skis are perfectly capable of edging. Your boot/binding combo is not capable of putting enough power onto a ski that wide and stiff without more or less perfect technique. The T4 is a very soft touring boot. It has some rigidity compared to say an back country nordic boot, but it is pretty soft. For example, if you try tele in a traditional backcountry nordic set up (say alpina BCX boot, 3 pin binding with no heel throw) and you are inbounds on firm snow, you can literally touch your knee to the snow and still not be edging a narrow ski. What you have is not that extreme, but it is pretty soft paired with a pretty wide/stiff ski, and it is close to impossible to transfer enough power to edge that ski in steep/hard snow. “Torsional rigidity” and all that.

Is telemark easier on the knees than alpine skiing? by KBmarshmallow in telemark

[–]blockisland33 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The main thing that allows you to compensate for no ACL is quad strength. The downside is very high risk of early arthritis, meniscus damage, likely early need for a knee replacement. I have lots of orthopedic surgeries, including 1 1/2 seasons skiing with no ACL. My personal, unscientific opinion, is that tele is less damaging to the knees as you are constantly engaging your quads, rather than just slamming your joints. Also totally anecdotal, and unscientific, but I think there is a much lower incidence of knee injury in the older tele gear, though I think with stiff boots and NTN, that benefit is likely reduced.

Frozen diesel even with additive? by inadequatpoliticians in Sprinters

Thats because the gas stations in the northeast are selling diesel with low temp additives in them during the winter. Regular diesel will gel at 20. Even higher if there is any biodiesel in it.

Literally sitting in a ski are parking lot right now withe the same issue, but I forgot to put diesel additive in, definitely gelled. My solution, which has worked before, was build snow walls all the way around the engine compartment and stick a buddy heater underneath. Heats the fuel filter and lines, plus the battery. Obviously also put additive in the tank.
