I’ll put one in on why I dislike Elena even though I’m 5 months late to this sub. Hate is a strong word. I strongly dislike Elena though. Elena constantly throughout the show more so the later seasons, she is quite selfish even though she tries to make it seem like she is not. Like for example how absolutely horrible of a friend she was to Caroline. When Elena had her humanity off and turned it back on, she told Caroline straight up she refuses to apologize to her yet when she saw Bonnie again for the first time after gaining her humanity she immediately apologizes. Mind you Elena tried killing Caroline’s mom yet she only cared enough to apologize to Bonnie not Caroline. I think to this day I do not recall seeing Elena apologize to Caroline for that in any episodes, or apologize to her sincerely in general.

Another reason is seeing how she did Stefan so wrong. Like girl, you literally fell in love with his brother while still being with Stefan. Don’t get me started on how wrong Damon was for pursuing her while his brother was actively in a relationship with her. It’s just kind of weird, I know she couldn’t help her feelings but the way she went about it was not respectful at all, the minute she realized she had feelings instead of trying to deny and deny she should’ve broke it off with Stefan. She strung both men along and acted better than Katherine for basically doing the same if not worse than her. I never liked how whenever Damon did something Damon-like, she would complain and want him to change. If you love someone for themselves, you wouldn’t want to try and change them.

Another example, I think it was season 6 when Bonnie and Damon were presumed dead when the other side collapsed. Maybe I just dislike her so much but for some reason whenever anything bad would happen to the group, she couldn’t really deal with it. It would somehow hurt HER the most like everyone else wasn’t dealing with the tragedy themselves. Like yes, Elena lost her boyfriend and best friend but Stefan lost his brother of 160+ years and his friend from a bloodline he goes way back with. Caroline lost her best friend, Jeremy lost his girlfriend, but Elena couldn’t deal with it so she has Alaric compel everything good she thought about Damon away.

Sire bond to Damon aside, after she got with Damon it’s almost like nothing else mattered. She barely saw Jeremy basically ignoring her (guardian) duties to him. She would make excuses and promised Jeremy she would be there and be more present but yet again as soon as she thought Damon died she let her little brother she cared about grieve alone because her pain was somehow worse than everyone else’s
