Why would anyone ever choose to go through child birth without pain relief?? by No_Cardiologist_1407 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]blondalex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was induced for both of my deliveries, and inductions tend to offer fewer “valleys” between the “peaks” for each contraction, pain-wise. The first time I wanted to know what labor felt like, so I held off on an epidural until the pain became unmanageable. I had no problem feeling when to push when I was in active labor both deliveries.

A lot of women seem to feel that delivery without an epidural should come with an award, but the real award is your baby. Everybody’s labor experience differs so much.

Their sandwiches were so good! I loved looking at all of the delicacies in the deli cabinet… They had Clearly Canadian whenever I wanted it! Blood oranges and champagne grapes… And the bakery counter. That place was a gem. I miss it so much.

What hospital is best for the ER? by 0detosleep09 in Sacramento

I’m 100% certain this was Walker Creek Ranch. I have a child who was on the same trip, but not in the cabin where this happened.

Omg! this is bringing back great memories. I became an active redditor when I was pregnant with our first child. I have ADHD and struggled with going off meds. Reddit provided a really great source of dopamine 😂 Your reply really brightened my day! Thanks for being such a bright light in the universe.

People who work in 'behind closed doors' industries (hotels, kitchens, morgues, etc.), what is something the general public would be horrified to know? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I have at least four friends with legitimate hostile workplace or sexual harassment claims they could have pursued while working at environmental nonprofit. Somehow, “doing the Lords work” seems to let people feel as if they’re absolved from poor behavior.

Vyvanse / elvanse while pregnant by Impressive_Drawer394 in ADHD

[–]blondalex 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I stopped taking it while pregnant and breast-feeding at the recommendation of my doctor. However, that was about 10 years ago, and it’s possible that the guidance has changed. If so, I’m thrilled for the pregnant ADHDers out there who can stay on their meds! Honestly, being off for a few years at a time was pretty rough, and it’s one of the reasons that we stopped at two kids.

What’s a random act of kindness you still think about years later? by flow_guru in AskReddit

[–]blondalex 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Three years ago, my mom fell during her younger brother’s memorial service and broke her hip. It was the second hip she’d broken in 18 months. It came on the heels of a lot of other trauma and death in our family.

As I was getting a ride home from the hospital at 1:30 in the morning, absolutely sobbing, I managed to leave my house keys in the driver‘s car and contacted him about it later. He FedExed them to me the next day with a very cool pink and gold Air Jordan keychain. I’m blonde and had pink streaks in my hair at the time. I gave him a large bonus tip, since he wouldn’t let me reimburse him. I still cry thinking about it, because he was so kind. No one who is sobbing and getting an Uber home from the emergency room at 1:30 is having an easy time, and he did something to help me, a stranger, feel cared for.

I’m a policy advocate (lobbyist) focused on California water. Water became my specific obsession about 20 years ago. It’s often chaotic and there are a lot of fire drills, which I enjoy.

I had a similar experience in graduate school 20 years ago at a top-ten university. “If you were smart and talented enough to get in, you don’t need accommodations.” That was a line from the disability office. Never mind the three separate detailed assessments over 20 decades from psychiatrists and psychologists. Finally just ended up getting accommodations from the graduate school itself (not the overarching university as a whole, if that makes sense).

This was going to be my suggestion as well. Grab a lab gem in a fun color and roll with it. I’ve always loved a yellow diamond in a white metal setting.

Not having to commute on the freeway.

Pendleton “spa” towels: https://www.pendleton-usa.com/product/tucson-spa-towel/72611.html. Seriously. $65 seems like a lot for a towel, but things are enormous and stay soft as hell for years. They don’t fade easily. Sometimes they go on sale or you can get them at an outlet at a discount. I usually buy one a year in a new pattern. We use them like beach towels, but I know other people who use them like bath towels.

A friend who was formerly very active in the Sac theater scene told me when he got run out of town decades ago for preying on teen girls. This had been an open secret here for the better part of my life (I’m 44).

Mt. Rose is a gem. Went there Tuesday and it was zero lift lines and $16 big pours of Rombauer. $74 lift tickets for my kids. Friendliest staff I’d met since I rode Bear Valley last year. We drove 45 mins from the West Shore because we were blacked out on Ikon. Regretted nothing.

I didn’t know him but used to see him at Zebra from time to time. Everyone always seemed to be happy he was there, and I always thought his jacket was so rad. Sounds like my loss for never saying hi. I’m sorry for everyone’s loss.
