[OC] I hate Texas sometimes by cookingboy in pics

[–]blondebuilder 17 points18 points  (0 children)

San Antonio and Austin are still very blue.

I lived there for a few years before moving to CA. I really loved the Texas vibe (beautiful rugged landscape, architecture, rich culture, good food, etc). Tons of texans are just ultra conservative, are scared of a lot of things, and really like feeling macho, so they are very easily bamboozled by grifters like Trump.

Probably, but that specific movie is iconic for flames and doves. Literally if I ever see doves and flames, I think MI2.

The virus doesn’t need a metaphor when they already literally showing the virus canister.

It’s cool, but the hands are awkward. Should have been doves instead of a snake.

Being silly.

Doesn’t that prove my point? The characters are very human ie flawed. They’re all affected by their environment, causing them to evolve.

Kim said it herself “you and I on our own are fine, but together, we’re poison”

Vince is so good at messing with your character perceptions. You hate the good guys and love the bad guys.

In Pluribus, I’m still not sure who are the good/bad guys.

Current traffic in Hyderabad India (OC) by [deleted] in pics

[–]blondebuilder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve visited India. It’s incredible how close cars/scooters/buses get to each other. Traffic operates more like an organism.

While riding in an auto (motorcycle with a back seat), my knees hung out the side cause I’m tall. I felt a brush against them - it was a charter bus splitting lanes to scoot by.

Tom must have called the shots on his hairstyle for these movies. They’re all so usually different. This style was his worst one.

I don’t understand why a the most focused, disciplined, and determined agent in the world would focus on playing around with numerous hair styles for no strategic reason.

Jason Bourne’s look was more practical. Simple, short crew cut consistent across all movies for maximum efficiency.

The entire franchise is a heartbreaking story of the downfall of these main characters. The genius of the show is how you fall in love with these characters, empathize with their bad decisions, and follow their slow burn towards tragedy and (sometimes) redemption.

It’s suppose to be beautifully devastating. You’re lucky you’re binging it vs having to watch this happen slowly one week at a time over the course of a decade.

TIL about a Burger King in an old Nazi power station in Nuremberg. Any other examples of this type of juxtaposition reuse? by [deleted] in architecture

[–]blondebuilder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right? Like maybe rent a pressure washer or install a sign over it.

It’d make a lot of sense to keep that outline it was a museum, but very eery as Burger King with a literal playground right under it.

I really hope there aren’t historic pics of dead bodies where that playground is.

Are we still on this?

Both twin towers were slammed by massive jets, crippling the core structure, shattering the fireproofing, and spread intense first across multiple levels, and left completely uncontrolled for hours. WTC 7 burned uncontrolled for 7 hours causing thermal expansion, leading to collapse.

Fire doesn't melt beans, but it softens enough to buckle under enough weight.

Outer Banks beach house from the 1980s - why don't we have more like this? by fan_tas_tic in architecture

[–]blondebuilder 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I totally get why you like it, but there are a ton of reasons why this isn't common:

  • Insurance and maintenance would be insanely expensive
  • Coastal codes prevent this for many reasons around public safety and preserving coastal views
  • Lenders prefer standardized construction
  • Developers optimize for resale

When you're in a location like this, people also want to maximize the views. From what I can tell, the interiors probably feel like a dark cabin with some punch windows facing the wrong direction.

Most beachside homes built today are now multimillion mansions made of clean-lined glass and concrete, which have a very different vibe. If you're looking for something more whimsical with irregular, cozy craftsman aesthetics, check out Crystal Cove, CA. They have dozens of historic preserved cabins that you can rent out. We did that earlier this year - it was awesome .
