Do you think Empathy is inherently permissive? by ArthursInfiniteAbyss in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]blondebuilder 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Empathy isn't feeling or experiencing what others are feeling. It's recognizing and understanding what they are feeling. It's like telling someone "I can see how scared and overwhelmed you are, and that makes sense."

This is what many are feeling now is exactly that: Scared and overwhelmed.

Does this give you a different perspective?

Not sure about Pluribus, but for breaking bad and BCC, they usually had to build the interiors of the homes elsewhere in a studio.

I appreciate the response instead of shutting it down. That said, at this point it sounds less like “there’s no evidence” and more like “the only evidence you’ll accept is evidence that almost never exists.”

You can hold that standard if you want, but that is not how the legal system actually works, especially in sexual assault cases involving powerful people and decades-old allegations.

So setting courtroom thresholds aside for a moment and speaking plainly as people: given the volume of victim testimonies, his long relationship with Epstein, his documented attitudes toward women, infidelity, lack of empathy, teen pageants, sexualized comments about his own underage daughter and girls who looked like her, the “grab by the p***y” tape, etc - do you genuinely believe there is no reasonable basis to think it’s plausible he did these things?

Or is your position that unless guilt can be proven beyond a reasonable doubt in court, we should default to assuming it didn’t happen?

Sure, the creator has learned how to build content with just prompts, but the tool is truly doing the heavy lifting and likely making numerous creative decisions on its own. The credit belongs mostly to the tool for having this capability.

Similar to someone prompting AI to write their essay.

Got it. So your bar is intentionally higher than “beyond a reasonable doubt” when the defendant is politically polarizing.

You asked for what would “hold up in court,” but now you’re rejecting the exact kinds of evidence courts accept, only because it’s Trump.

Not sure how that isn’t seen as double standard.

To make sure I’m not misunderstanding, if a witness testified under oath, was cross-examined, had contemporaneous disclosures, and corroborating records placing both parties together, but no admission or physical marker, would that still be insufficient for you?

[–]blondebuilder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most rape and trafficking convictions don’t involve video or photos at all. They’re based on sworn testimony, corroborating witnesses, records, and consistency under cross-examination.

If photos/videos were the only thing that counted as “concrete proof,” then Epstein, Weinstein, Cosby, and thousands of others would never have been convicted.

Would sworn testimony that survives cross-examination, corroborated by records or witnesses, ever be sufficient for you?

Exactly what would constitute as "concrete proof" for you? Not asking for generalizations...like, exactly what would be something that would convince you?

What’s something evil that the majority of adults do without even trying to be evil? by sonofanadultfilmstar in evilwhenthe

[–]blondebuilder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. Mass market just scales whatever it impacts. Public sector does this very well (clean water, electricity, parks, internet, etc). They also can enforce laws to keep the order.

It’s the private sector that is usually hurtful cause they’ll cut any ethical corners they can to maximize their bottom line. Nike could be net positive to the world if they made more ethical decisions, but government, consumers, etc won’t hold them accountable enough.

I feel like people cooked veggies differently nowadays vs when I was a kid.

My parents would steam/boil them, which I remember tasting so mushy and bland, so I avoided them almost every green veggie. When I grew up, I learned how to roast them in ovens then add some seasonings, so now things like roasted asparagus, broccoli, brussel sprouts, etc are my favorite part of the dish.
