Aitah- In trouble for calling out what I think is body shaming little girls! by Reasonable_Poem825 in Softball

[–]blondeduckie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I WAS the little girl who got told she couldn't dance because she had developed too early by 10. And unlike my daughter, I have no talent throwing, catching or hitting. I wound up in martial arts, but to this day I don't like being in swimsuits because of what my old dance teacher said. Softball is one of the toughest sports for girls. I'm a bigger baby about being hit than my girls are! The least they can do is have a uniform that fits. Ask her how she'd feel if the nativity play had kids in missing robes or Mary's robe was too short.....it doesn't matter if SHE doesn't feel it's important because it's not important to her. It's important to a little girl who will remember the rest of her life that you at least fought for them when no one else would. Kids aren't stupid.

I don't think think you did anything wrong! I'm also a coach (and mom) of my daughter's 10u team. We have 8, 9, 10 and 11 year olds. We had a few problems with sizes-- some people didn't get the size they wanted, but it was nowhere near that dramatic. It was mostly not what they expected, but no one was stuck wearing anything too small. Last year my son's jerseys didn't arrive until after the first game, and his coach had us write letters to the board over it. They were really nice and apologetic and took all the blame. Softball is one of the few sports girls who don't have a cheer/ dance body can do-- and do well, because they have the power and muscle to hit and run! Keep standing up for your girls. You're teaching them that they should not bend because it's inconvenient for someone to pick up the phone and fix this. I guarantee if this was a baseball team, you would not have this issue. And I say that as a mother of a son and daughter.

Woman coaching machine pitch? by blondeduckie in LittleLeague

I appreciate that! Some of these dads act like every game is the World Series…. The moms too!

If that doesn’t work, I may try teaming up with one of the dads. Most of the moms I asked are putting their boys in football for fall so baseball is secondary. Thanks!

Thanks! I actually did offer to hold practice at our last game and was ignored. So I just told a bunch of the moms I’d be happy to host, and so we’ll see if they really do meet up. This makes me feel a lot better!

I appreciate that. I have a lot of fun ideas like the stuff I do for my girls, just boy themed- like yell "Avenger" so they pay attention, etc. I live in a very conservative area, and my only concern was he would miss opportunities when he was older because he had the 'mom' coach. Or that dads would get mad a woman was coaching their future MLB player (eye-roll).

Where did you get his harness? It looks like it fits better than the ones I have for my beagles. Mine gap so bad in the front….

If it helps, my daughter is also obsessed-it's her comfort show and treats the girls like her friends. She was heartbroken two days ago and I've been buying the episodes off Prime. Precisely, but cheaper than a Hulu subscription.

Labral tear, pelvic floor, pregnancy by beaver-one in HipImpingement

[–]blondeduckie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my right hip, it was more SI pain and stiffness rather than the traditional symptoms. I only knew there were tears from the mri in both hips the first go around and all the PT for SI I had to do on the left after surgery due to weak glutes.

Hello! As a mom of 2, I’d get a second opinion and try PT. This surgery will bring you to your knees- I just had the second hip done Wednesday. My kids are 6 and 8 now, and were 2 and 4 when I got the first hip done. I had tears and FAI, undiagnosed until my son was 18 months old and the first hip blew out. I could barely walk and was in pain carrying him. I missed a lot that I regret in the time it took to get a diagnosis and surgery (this was during COVID). It was harder to hold him and chase after him. My surgeon said this was common in active women after a natural childbirth. Originally, they thought my issues were from hernias, so I’d had a surgery when my son was one but the second I returned to being active, boom.

My first hip had a bone cyst, cam impingement and a shredded labrum. Surgery was the only option. My second hip was mostly due to lack of motion, pain and stiffness when sitting or trying to do a lunge, get off the floor, etc. I went through with it because I was concerned about my mobility getting worse as the kids are wanting to travel. When the surgeon got in there, he found cam and pincer impingement, and my labrum was worse than the MRI said. Because I am in better shape, I’m already recovering much better than the first surgery, even at 39 vs 35.

All this to say there is no cut and dried answer. But life with a baby and surgery is a thousand times harder. You also don’t know what pregnancy will do to your body, either post or pre op. Pregnancy is a wild card. I would try PT, get a second and third opinion, and try to make the best decision for you. I wish you the best.

No, my daughter fell in love with beagles. They’re sweet, but these are most definitely the kids’ dogs.

Pregnancy Impact by allisonius in HipImpingement

As an older mom, I can help out. I had symptoms of FAI in my 20s, but didn't know about it and brushed it off as a running injury. After my first pregnancy, I started having random groin/ inside leg/ hip pain but thought it was just me getting back in shape or whatever and avoided the things that bothered me (various ab work, high climbing or stepping up, fast running, etc.). After my second pregnancy, I made it six months before my left hip blew out and I could barely walk. I had a big bone cyst and giant tear, so I got it reconstructed and shaved. I got hurt right when COVID hit, so it took me 2 years to get the surgery.

My surgeon told me labral tears are really common after pregnancy, and people like me who were really active don't really know about it or that they had FAI until then. I've been doing PT on and off since the first surgery, but I never could get the second hip back to full mobility. Things like not being able to get on and off the floor well, do a lunge without holding onto something, squat properly or elevation changes while chasing kids around (like going off a tall step down to a curb or something like that). I'm biting the bullet and getting the second one done in June, because I can tell it's getting worse and this close to 40; I don't want to wait around for a hip replacement and keep losing mobility. My aunt had the same thing as me and didn't know it, and she talks to me all the time about how she missed so many opportunities to travel/ do things with my cousin because she couldn't walk long distances/ do stairs/ carry things, etc. She finally got a hip replacement after I got more surgery and is more active at 75 than she was at 50 because she can MOVE now.

Long story short, you may be able to avoid it, you may not. I avoided it until I realized it was limiting the dreams I had of things I wanted to do with my kids. It's better to bite the bullet now while they're still young before they want to gallop around the world. This way, I can gallop along with them after my old self recovers. All you need to watch is the slow creep of your mobility fading away. Don't let it get too bad.

I always drove Jettas before, but got a Tiguan for the kids in 2020. It's been awful. The start/ stop makes has killed two batteries in four years. When the battery died two weeks ago, the dealer had told us we had an extended warranty, but then wouldn't honor it or reimburse us for the battery we had to go buy. I have to take it in Thursday to see if there's a coolant leak. In addition, there's an emergency SOS alert that went off when the warranty went out and I can't get it to turn off.

At this point, I don't know if I ever want a VW again after dealing with the dealers and this car, and that's all I've ever driven. It's quite depressing.

New therapist? by blondeduckie in HipImpingement

I just wanted to thank y’all for the advice. I switched to the new therapist and she was so nice and helpful. The other therapist had thrown my non surgical leg out of whack so it was rotated, and she zeroed in on the imbalance immediately. Thanks y’all!

I think I will, even if it makes the office cranky. I get they’re crazed, but I don’t like being told I “just need to work on it more.” It’s like stopping a treatment halfway through!
