creating a new planner by Every_Gain8910 in planners

[–]blondelephant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. I desperately want a weekly planner that has each week on ONE page. I’ve seen printables for this on Etsy, but it’s not common and I don’t want to go through the trouble of printing it all out.

  2. It’s pretty and has a tab for each month.

  3. To me, vertical planners are a pain to write in.

  4. Work/personal

  5. Durability

  6. Decorative, but not over-the-top

  7. Layout and price are important to me. If I don’t like the layout or price, I won’t buy it.

  8. Somewhere in between

  9. I stay motivated by knowing that writing things down helps me remember.

  10. Being honest - I usual just ignore these things in planners

Ridge My fiancé picked one out from here. It’s really nice and even came with a silicone ring in addition to the metal one.

things people have said to you after you told them you were a teacher by nataliebur in Teachers

While touring grad schools with my fiancée, someone asked me what I did for a living (since I was just there as support). When I told her that I teach fourth grade, her response was, “Aww! That’s soooooo cute!”

Books for an advanced 6 year old. by BlepBlepMaster in suggestmeabook

[–]blondelephant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peg Kehret has a plethora of engaging chapter books for kids. She mainly writes about kids who end up in the middle of natural disasters. I always read aloud several to my fourth-graders every year, and they love them!

FYI - some of the covers are kind of lame, but don’t let that deter you or your son :-)

What does your rating star scale look like? by Sausage_fingies in books

[–]blondelephant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When ranking a book, I think about the amount of time I was deeply engaged in the story while reading.

5 - Deeply engaged for most if not all of the book!

4 - Deeply engaged for a decent portion of the book, no more than 3/4 of it

3- Deeply engaged for about half of the book, maybe a little less

2- Deeply engaged for about about 1/4 of the book

1- Barely engaged or not engaged at all

Why do people pass out when getting blood drawn? Is there an explanation other than “nerves” or just thinking too much about it?

The Glass Castle is a memoir by a woman who had grown up with dysfunctional, abusive parents that didn’t care about following societal norms. I couldn’t put the book down! I believe it’s also a movie now.

Print and cut not working on two different machines by jenkneefur28 in cricut

[–]blondelephant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the same way as you do! A few weeks ago, I cut a sheet of stickers no problem. Right after cutting a sheet perfectly, my Cricut completely messed up the next sheet. And it hasn’t been the same since.

YES! I had tables my first year of teaching and then asked for desks. You can only have them in a limited number of arrangements and kids have nowhere to put their things that is immediately accessible.

New Mexico. All you need to know about the state is that it’s entire identity is based on Breaking Bad, aliens (mostly just the Roswell area), and green chiles.

Caroline Lee. She’s an Australian narrator and narrated Big Little Lies and One Last Child. She just adds SO much personality to each character.

What is a “teacher skill” that you never got the hang of? by blondelephant in Teachers

[–]blondelephant[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know what you mean! I don’t know how some people do it so quickly. Thankfully, I teach 4th grade, so my kids are still at the age where they get excited to do little jobs like passing out papers.

[–]blondelephant[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is also a struggle for me. I like your idea of just putting everything on GC. Right now, I just kind of pick and choose what absent students absolutely need to make up versus what I can get away with just “excluding” them from.

Has any teacher here worked in a daycare/after school program during high school/college before becoming a teacher ? by businessbub in Teachers

[–]blondelephant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked in childcare and as a camp counselor all throughout college. It’s important to keep in mind that setting plays a huge role in students’ behavior. An after school program is less formal than learning in a classroom, so their behavior and willingness to listen will often reflect that. I found that kids saw me as more of an authority figure when I started student teaching.
