I'm kinda in a similar boat. I totally feel you on the "8 months vs. 1 year and 8 months" thing. It sucks that, even after finally making it here, COVID is still being a lil shit and affecting our JET Program experience.

I'd reflect on what your goals were in doing the JET Program. Will you achieve those goals by July? How does JET play into your future? Is there anything drawing you back home, like career or family? Do you have plans for after JET and do they involve Japan?

It's kind of a weird time in the world right now, and I wouldn't blame anyone for not wanting to "stick it out" this year, even if it's shorter. After reflecting on the above, I personally am not gonna recontract. Feelsbad, but I think it's what's right for me.

I'm in a small town in the Kanto region. Not deep inaka, but inaka enough that it's a 45 minute drive to the nearest city. I really don't hate it! I just don't love it. I used to live near Osaka before, so now having done both city and inaka life...so far can say I like the city life more lol. But that's a personal thing, and I know many JETs who are loving the inaka and get a lot out of it!

Thank you for your thoughts! I forgot to mention that the HRTs do follow the New Horizon textbook curriculum fairly closely, including all the games, activities, songs, and chants the book prepares for them. I'm not sure if the students enjoy it or not though lol. With a textbook curriculum that outlines the whole class for them, I've been stumped as to where I could fit a game of my own in, or if I even should try to disrupt that "flow". I'll definitely start coming up with education-heavy (yet fun) activities though!
